  1. Where are you based now? Maybe they moved? Feb. 1918? Then we won't meet, as my 1918 pilot is flying in the Alsace region (beautiful mountains!) Most north of all is Oberleutnant Werner Mahlo, he's flying from Wasquehal, early 1917. Blue skies!
  2. Yeah, the wheather in early 1917 must have been nasty, Vasco. You got to choose between "early 1917: bad wheather, but Albatros a superiour craft)" or "summer 1917: gentle sunlight bathing the landscape in gold etc., but more S.E.5a, plus Camels around". But your confirmations and claims proportion (and that of others) makes me wonder, what I do wrong. My pilot has 39 claims, with 9 confirmed? Vertical breeze - is that prison camp, or what do you mean?
  3. About Spads

Ooops - so much for Wikipedia. SirMike - "What if" missions are not a bad idea, I'd say (like IL2 1946). This way, the "original" sim would remain historical, while the added on What If missions could show, what would have come. Perhaps in a Phase 5 ?
  4. So you did the Nupes, like Paarma and OvS did most of the Albs? I promise, I will investigate and fly all Nupes and all other craft in OFF - will be fun for years.
  5. RoF First Impressions

One thing I always wanted to say about OFF's visual appearance is, that they did not simply make it "photo-realism" like. Although done by more than one artist, the whole work has a "signature", a very special style and "grain". You would always recognise it among several others. It has character (perhaps some remember "Diablo"- there I had the same feeling). To me, it feels great to fly over landscapes, that almost seem sculptured, assembled with the love of a gardener to his work. When I go low, I still see the "grain" (sorry, my English is lacking the right words) of the herbs and grass, instead of some dead flat shades of green. From high above, ROF looks great (especially the rivers) - the low flying in the vids disappointed me there.
  6. Yes, it was a kind of tense and intense excitement, Rickity! Dej, I don't know my average, but in this case it were 1.000 rounds divided by 7 = 140 (rounded). But I think, two of the Tripes where hit extremely, one exploded, and the other burnt right away. That may have left more rounds for the others. Next time I'll watch the after-combat-replay. Hasse Wind, I made very good use of my wingmen in this fight; assigned them opponents flying high (so they got out of the worst), or those who chased one of us. For the first time I was sure, that the wingman 1 (my personal wing) NEVER goes off fighting - even if I pressed "attack" several times. And when I pressed "help", he always attacked the craft closest to me. So I called for help only, when some ace wouldn't go off my tail. But if you are at an opponents tail and press "help", he'll fire at that craft, too. So better avoid that. Stick to your "Pfalz mentality", until you really feel at home in the Albatros. Only now, after so long mostly flying these craft, I feel I can take on any fight, that's equally numbered (3 Albatros against 5 Nupes IS equally numbered to me - always was bad at mathematics).
  7. RoF First Impressions

Hellshade, I don't know ROF yet, but I'm almost sure that you could add: skins variety: OFF Am I right, or am I right?
  8. Winder: Yes at some of the airfields there is a soldier with a lee-enfield or mauser who will track enemies and shoot - it was fun making him. Whoever wants to beat that, would better have the same enthusiasm as you devs.
  9. I'm sure, that UncleAl has this website listed in his "Tipps & Cheats" sticky thread. And I'm also pretty certain, that some of you have missed it so far. Here are some pictures from there - a lot more from the SPAD and other craft - worth to visit and check out. Enjoy! http://www.colepalen.com Edit: the grey Fokker DVII doesn't appear as bulky as I thought the craft was. The wing somehow looks like that from the E.V or DVIII here.
  10. So you see them now, I hope, Creaghorn? Tanks, lorries, soldiers?
  11. New Noop anyone?

You guys will get me into the cockpit of a Frog - arhm! - French craft. She looks wonderful! Everybody is talking about the great turnability of the Nupe 17 (shame on me, I have only flown once, but will soon do French campaigns, promised!) - is the N 24 the same good turn fighter, or maybe better? Was this craft also flown by American pilots?
  12. How did you do that? Ah, well, I see: you are a Test pilot! So you must be good with tests!
  13. 20 hours in a BE2c!

Harsh words - was it really so bad? I thought, the S.E.5a and the Camel where good fighters? The Pup I also liked (the flying - not the firepower). And what about the Tripe - a hell of a crate!
  14. It is a great feeling, when you take off and fly together with such pilots as Werner 'Bubi' Voss and Adolf Ritter von Tutschek. Southeast of Cambrai, Flight 1 got attacked by two SPAD VII from RFC-23 (crazy, those crumpets, to attack a flight of 6 Albatros DIII with Voss and Tutschek amongst them). Tutschek sortet his out high above, before my Flight 2 even arrived at the scene. Werner Voss was tangling with the other. But when I joined in, he left that one for me - and I didn't disappoint him! There is always something different to get exited about in BHaH. Well, time to get back into my crate - another flight is waiting!
  15. 20 hours in a BE2c!

Jim, if you really want to live all the way through until the end of this war, I highly recommend to change to a Bristol F2b two seat fighter. It's the only twoseat, that can cause me headache or better: "engine outs" (my mechanics HATE them).
  16. Hmmm - now you all may think, I'm the René Fonck of this quiz - all 20 right! Tattaaa! Tattaaa! Tatttaaaaa!!! Edit: I better add, that the "Bulldog" and that monoplane was guesswork. I'm never that good, when it's about winning money!
  17. About Spads

You might be right there about the Lewis. tttiger would know, but I don't see him recently. About the S.E.5a: it was not a special craft - all S.E.5a where that fast. The best fighter, if you need to run. That's why I think, that Werner Voss didn't even have the chance to run away in his Fokker Dr.1 - it was some 37 km/h slower than the S.E.5a, and these even came chasing down - he had to take them on.
  18. That would be great, Hasse Wind, as I'm already saving for the upgrade of my rig! Perhaps you can look up the desired info then? For me, it looks like an odyssee has only just begun. Here are the answering mails; at least with new addresses. But both say, they don't have any data about these craft in their archives. Dear Mr. Mahlo, Unfortunately we do not have any information regarding the mentioned Fokker Aircraft. Fokker Services is the Type Certificate Holder for the post WW aircraft; F27 / F28 / F50 / F70 / F100. We provide services for the Fokker aircraft of this type in operation. Unfortunately I am not aware of other companies who may still have documentation on these aircraft, good luck with your research. 19. Although this seems to be more about WW2, and maybe British fields only, you may find continental fields here, that where also used in WW 1. http://www.battlegroundtools.com/current_map.php Click on a name left side, and a blinking cross will appear. Now click into the cross, and you will get an aireal view of the former field and buildings. Enjoy! Edit / PS: maybe I was a bit too fast - this seems to be from a game or so. Don't know, how realistic it is.
  20. Got some more answers/info on the Aerodrome - nice people there. Hi Olham, and welcome to the Forum; If you re-read Aquilius' post, you'll see that he does name his source for his statements: the excellent book Fokker Flugzeugwerke in Deutschland 1912-1921 by Peter M. Grosz and Volker Koos. It's the best single volume available on all Fokker aircraft of WWI. Yes, as Dan-San says, Erich Loewenhardt of Jasta 10 did briefly test-fly E.V 146/18 of Jasta 6 on a test-hop. But that's all he did. This photo is supposed to show Loewenhardt aloft in the E.V. The photo is so well known that some folks leaped to the conclusion that Loewenhardt must have this this airplane in combat ....and scored in it. That's not correct. __________________ Greg VanWyngarden Peter M. 21. About Spads

According to my data, the S.E.5a beat the SPAD XIII about 5 km/h in speed; not much, but she was the fastest. But if it was about weight - why didn't they use two Lewis? Was the Lewis less good?
  22. Airfield locations

Are you a secret agent, UncleAl? You often write things, that are absolutely cryptic to me. Please send me the code book, so I can "translate" (Lol!)
  23. I have four current pilots, Hasse Wind, as I like to fly the various versions of the Albatros, and also in different areas. So I have three Leutnants and one was promoted Oberleutnant (he is in Siggi's Killboard). Good to hear you are still with me/us. Hey, Widow, did I remember that so badly wrong? Wasn't it the "Blacktail" from Jasta 12, who gave YOU a good treatment? Oh, I love bantering with you - I'd miss you so much, that I could NEVER shoot you down.
  24. Did you do both these versions in OFF ? Then I must say it again - great job done, you skinners!
  25. Oh, what a great sound that Camel had! Great video - thanks. Shredward! Now I hope, Mayrhofer will get his Albatros DIII to fly, too. But I heard the test running engine - it doesn't sound half as impressive as the Camel's.
