  1. Thank you, that sounds very interesting. Hadn't known of this book before. I'll put it on my list of "must-haves".
  2. How is that book? I just read, it is "about the 16 months of von Richthofen at the front", and "introduced by Hermann Göring". Is it a typical Nazi propaganda book, or is it more of historical value?
  3. Yes, I think it contains experiences from real life pilots, but settled in a fictituous Staffel. German Jasta numbers only went as high as 80 (afaik). But I rather stay with original pilots memoirs. After all we can assume, that even these contain some "Technicolor extravaganzas" (quote from "Andy Capp"); most definitely the book by Osterkamp. Edit/PS: Jentsch's book may be interesting for all, who'd like to know a little about the early days at the Macedonian front. He came to the Western Front only later, in 1917. His description of an emergency landing in a totally shot up Pfalz ("The whole floor of the 'boat' was missing, the engine was half ripped out from it's moorings. The ammunition belts had been dragged out of the compartment and they were dancing behind my Pfalz.") Very epic!
  4. That's what I was thinking about. When we played "Cowboys & Indians" as kids, one might have shouted "Bang! You're dead!" And the other responded "No, I'm not! You missed!"
  5. Hi, Lou - nice to see you around here again! "Jagdstaffel 356" is - as far as I know - a fictitious book?
  6. Here are two links for German books, which were translated into English. Ernst Udet: "Ace of the Iron Cross" abebooks Julius Buckler: "Malaula! The battlecry of Jasta 17" AMAZON I know both of these books (in German), and I like them both. Buckler gives an insight into his poor family's struggles before the war, and how it felt for him to rise from a non-officer rank in the Luftstreitkräfte, to become a Leutnant (this was normally uncommon; only A-level scholars could get into officer ranks back then. He had a friendly, humorous nature, or so it seems. Udet was another feller with a good humour. He has written about his time during the whole war, beginning with an Eindecker-Staffel in Alsace, and becoming the greatest surviving German ace (via Jasta 15, Jasta 37 and Jasta 4). The book also tells about his adventures after the war. Udet was a stunt flyer and worked for movie productions, or on air shows. He also tried building aircraft with his own company, but wasn't quite the businessman. Other German pilots' books may be only available in German, I'm afraid. Here are some titles you may still find at ABEBOOKS: F. K. Kurt Jentsch: "Beim Jagdflug tödlich verunglückt?" Immelmann: "Der Adler von Lille" Theo Osterkamp: "Du oder ich" Lange: "Ritter von Schleich"
  7. Roman reenactments? Gee - do you have pics of those?
  8. Embodiment of WOFF?

ZoomZoom, nice to see you back around here! WOFF will still need central CFS3 files, and therefor the user must have or get CFS3. Apart from that it will be a whole new sim - not just an update or add-on for OFF. Robert, thanks for your kind offer, but I'm addicted to skinning - so I'll do any new skins I need, myself. But when the download section works again, you could always make them available for everyone there. Wasp, the "R" skin is a special paintjob for CaptSopwith, but you may like any another of my skins from the download section. Mind you, they are mostly Albatros skins.
  9. Summer Update?

Okay then - check your messages, Capt.
  10. Thank you, Shiloh. Wether each man knows exactly where to fall or not - it seems to work well anyway. I guess I would be drawn back in time, right into this battle. Not sure how that would feel though.
  11. Damn, that looks like you could well be all employed for a movie like "Gods & Generals" - so many blue tunics, and the guns look really old too. I wonder: did the grey ones each know, where they had to play being hit, and fall? Or does everybody play it "by ear"?
  12. He didn't say: "...will be..." - he said "...is..." - amazing!
  13. They seem to fly at least two miles, before they turn. If you don't want to follow them, you could sit in your crate at your field and switch onto the others' aircraft. It's often hilarious to watch them all aim for the same line of trees, where you may see as many columns of smoke in the end, as there were comrades. :flyer:
  14. Follow them long enough, and you will reach the turning point with them. From there they fly back towards the field and (try to) land. It depends on the landscape (trees, hills etc.), wether they make it or not. But the airfield of Bertincourt (Jasta 2) made me witness several fine landings of my AI comrades in their Halberstadts. And when they make it, it is a very heartwarming experience!
  15. The website "Buddecke" has added new photos, mostly of the 'Reihenbildzug 4' (unit which made long lines of aerial photos, which were later put together to one large picture). This observer/photographer is wearing a "Muff" (don't know the English word); a tube of cloth, wool or fur, to put your hands into from both sides to keep them warm. I'd like to remmoned this site again - lots of interesting stuff. http://www.buddecke.de/neu.htm
  16. Here is another new photo again from the great BUDDECKE website. They add new stuff quite often; it's always worth to check. The photo shows Feldflieger-Abteilung 62 (FFA 62) with Max Immelmann (5. from left) in front of the "Immelmann-Haus" at Douai.
  17. Here is the address of 2connect Ltd. (via AMAZON) for the TrackIR 4 Pro for the acceptable price (IMHO) of 119,- Euro. http://www.amazon.de/gp/offer-listing/B000EP3BAC/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new The TrackIR 4 Pro can be used with the newer TrackIR 5 Software.
  18. TrackIR4 for Germans

Nope - no idea what it is. I just found it in AMAZON, but it seems to be more like a cyber helmet - as if the pics are shown in little screens right before your eyes?
  19. Best tip for fighting rotary-fighters: never turn right turns with them - force them into turning left. And make early use of your twin Spandaus. A half damaged kite is even useless in the hands of an ace. If you can't turn tight enough with them, fly no circles but ovals or eights, with dives for gaining speed, and tight turns in the high curves. In left turn rounds you CAN get behind them - I did it many times. Good luck!
  20. Better now than when WOFF will be released, I say.
  21. Sight Seeing in Free Flight

Wasp, you can actually fly across the Alpes to the Riviera and northern Italy. I have flown to several places in the Alpes and checked the coordinates with GoogleMaps - they were almost spot on. If you fly in the Alsace area, you can use the many lakes there as landmarks. They are also very close to what I found in GoogleMaps, and give you a fine orientation.
  22. Aaaahhhh! Albatros! .... Lovely!
  23. Feels like having been under water, holding my breath for a long time - and then: surfaced. Good to see you all again! Erik will hopefully find some sleep now, although maybe the work isn't finished yet? However - have a good rest for now, man.
  24. Surfaced

Yes - Erik simply had to do some work on the forum. He announced it at the top of the forum page.
