  1. s**t happens; like this: UncleAl posts this link in one of my threads. I find it so interesting, that I ask him to post a new thread about this site, as many of you would surely like to see all these aircraft. Some of them, I had never seen before. But he replies, that it's been posted in the "Tips & Cheats" since 3 years. Ooops! Now, honestly - are you also one of those ignorants, who hadn't checked it? In that case, here it is again; thanks, UncleAl. http://www.aviastar.org/index2.html And here are some rare craft - who knows them? (We can make it a little quiz. Well, those who look it up, will surely know it then)
  2. Just lost my best DiD pilot to the enemy after a scramble; in a mission, that seemed totally screwed up somehow. I flew it with Labels and TAC on, cause there weren't less than ten S.E.5as falling down on our heads. So I noticed the first "mad thing": Three S.E.5as, that had crashed and weren't more than burning wrecks, still showed their labelled names and squadrons. The second crazy thing, that happened, was, that I shot a good lot into ace Guy Borthwick Moore's S.E.5a Viper. I hit him so hard, that his craft exploded. But he flew around attacking me even 5 minutes after that! The third madness was, that I crashed EAST of my airfield Ste.-Marguerite, but was a P.O.W. now. And to make the mess complete, my claim report was called "erroneus" - no matter how much I changed it. First I had listed 3 craft, then two, and at last only one - no way! So I watched the "replay" of the mission. I had downed no less than 5 S.E.5a, and had crashed east of our field. Anyone had such a crazy mission, too?
  3. Yes, I'm thinking like tttiger - let's not start any "opponent sim bashing" or even malicious joy about other people's problems here again.
  4. Incredible, Jammer! The cutting to the music - very professional! And the black-and -white makes it even more believeable footage, especially as you combined it so well with photography. I got chicken skin on the last pictures. were we are lead back to today. Hats off - to your movie, and to those men!
  5. Hi, Winder. I use DM "Hardcore" - never had such a thing happening before. All is runnig well usually. Hi, Jammer - yeah, that would explain some of it. But Mr. Moore didn't land and enter another crate - he was chasing me all the time. But a change of the front - maybe. (Although it was not visible in the "review".) Hey, CJ - maybe sometimes this can happen. Perhaps we just need to give that craft an extra dose then - Lol!
  6. Lol! So even an Antony Fokker couldn't turn all he built into gold.
  7. Albatros D.III (Oef) 153.198 Flik 3J, june 1918 used by Oblt.Friedrich Navratil, who won a first victory of his unit on this plane. After a crash and reparation in august, the aircraft was flown by Stfw.Otto Forster and Kpl.August Korkisch. Found here: http://www.fortunecity.com/campus/depaul/953/kam/oef.htm
  8. It's on the way!

Hi, Duke, and welcome! Enjoy your family or girlfriend - you wont see them much, when the sim is there. And perhaps you spend some time checking the "sticky threads" - "Tips & Cheats" by UncleAl is full of good info.
  9. Thanks a lot, Creaghorn - I will try that!
  10. OEFAG Albatros

It wasn't that bad, it seems, Hasse Wind From what I read, it was mainly IDFLIEG's failure - they had only done little testing on the new Albatros D V, and the prototype D IV even used wings of Albatros D II. So nobody seems to have realised the weak points . The stronger engine and higher speed of the D V made the structural weakness of the lower wing now a real danger; at the front, first wing breaking happened. This was fatal on such a craft, and now the Germans even thought about switching back to the production of the more stabile Albatros DIII (and maybe even to the Austrian wing solution). But the "Amerikaprogramm" of the German forces requested higher production numbers of fighter craft, to catch up with the Entente. Albatros had a production already running, and a change of the aircraft's structure and wings would have thrown the production too far back. So stabilising changes were only made at the fields. That was mainly a little strut from the front edge of the lower wing to the Wing strut - this was a good improvement. Apart from that, hopes were now set on Fokker's new productions.
  11. Still on the search for rare pictures, I found this site: http://www.koelbach.de/archiv/karl/airplanes.html Here's the German version of the WW2 "Lightning" - a bit ahead of it's time, perhaps?
  12. Yes, sorry - I had shortened it, and thought, it would work. But it doesn't. So I'll correct it above.
  13. OEFAG Albatros

Wow; looking great, Pol. Now we must only research for a Jasta, that got Austrian Albatros delivered by mistake, or as a present or what ever. Or an Austrian unit operating at the western front. If we'd just find some - like the Tripe with twin guns also was rare - that would be fantastic.
  14. Hey, UncleAl, please post this link in a new thread - it deserves to be noticed. And thanks for sharing!
  15. OEFAG Albatros

Thanks, OvS. I understand it's not important for us, as it didn't fly on the Western front. Yes, Hasse Wind, it is unbelieveable, that the German production kept building the weaker versions, instead of learning from the Austrians. It seems, that their DIII was even good enough until the end of the war. What a fighter the D Va could have been...
  16. Noob viewing question

Hahaha, CJ - if looks could kill, your avatar pilot would. By devious means: he would make the enemy burst out in uncontrollable laughter, with fatal results. Anyone knows, if Marty is still alive?
  17. OEFAG Albatros

Yes, I still hope, that the OEFAG Albatros will be available for us in OFF. But maybe it only flew at the other fronts, not on the Western front?
  18. Only instrument I can play halfways good, is a drum kit. But I used to make recordings on a four-track cassette deck, and I played guitars, bass, keyboards, flute and synthesizers; and treated them with devices. I was inspired by Brian Eno, to act as a non-musician, and it worked. If you have a feeling for music, you can "find" the melodies and chords, and they are like a new discovered world. I remember them for very long, once I worked them out (can't write notes). I would encourage everyone, who loves music, to pick the instrument of his/her choice and really try to do something with it. And if you have children - encourage them to give it a go. For me, it always was a way to express emotions; a way to find peace.
  19. Noob viewing question

No, Kankkis, I don't think so. But you can toggle between the "fixed angles view" (which is good for quick check left, right and six o'clock), and the "pan view". Put the command key for that toggle on your stick, and you can change between them. That worked very good for me, before i got the TrackIR 4.
  20. Thanks for the pic, UncleAl Perhaps the craft you mean in Vietnam was the "Bronco" ? No pusher, but the only twin-tail recon two seater I know from that time.
  21. Although I recommended to look in to this website, I haven't seen everything yet myself. Just now, I came across the portraits of the German aces, when I searched for Walter Blume, who was my Staffelführer in Jasta 9, Sissone. Here is his portrait: http://www.flieger-album.de/geschichte/por...blumewalter.php
  22. Hey, welcome, WW1-pilot! So you are doing that site about Werner Dittmann? Thanks for letting us show some pics here; I wanted to get everyone attracted, as it's a really big fund of information and photographs. Do you think, some of the people in the "Album eines unbekannten Fliegers" could still be identified? The guys who made this great simulation, were interested in adding one of the "unknown pilots" to their sim pilots. Do you have "Between Heaven and Hell"? If not - get it - it's worth every single cent! No, even more, cause it grows much more interest than any share! You really get into the feel of those years, and you realise, how hard it was. Hope to see you round here more now! Nah, Widow - perhaps just been flying too much recently; nerves strayed etc. (Lol!) Very good one, Ovs - good retouche and great story! Although I will really miss your "good old" avatar.
  23. OT: Hhmm... whilst OvS seems to feel the urge to look more serious and cool in his avatar, Cameljockey's attitude is rather the opposite. I don't know, really. While CJ's could be booked under "humour", "The Black Baron of Boistrancourt" was an institution for me. Perhaps I'm getting old - seems, I become conservative.
  24. Yes, I did mine right after trying the presets - none of them seemed "aggressive" enough. I left the front bit slow as it was more or less, sides faster, and the last bit to check six really fast. Needs to get used to first, but then it's like you're not a day over twenty (Lol!) Also very useful; especially in "nervous" craft like the Dr.1: "precision" - put that on a joystick button. When you press that, your "neck and body will stiffen up" (all moves very slow; so you aim and shoot better). If you press it again, all normal, for quick checks.
  25. Great tool, Jammer! That will help to understand the most of it. Not perfect, of course, as it should be "...leaves the port of Helgoland 1917", but good enough surely.
