Wow, RedDog - that mottling Albatros looks great! Dej, screenshots at dusk look great. I had a video from P2, were I fought Camels at dusk. You can then see the impact of each round on the enemy craft - bright puffs of smoke, illuminated from the glowing bullets. Very romantic - if you're not the victim )Lol!) -
Questions for the experienced Camel drivers
Olham replied to Dej's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My condolences to you both, Interlocutor and Dej; yes, it hurts. 25 missions; or 19 hours - that's quite something. Even losing a wingman, you have flown many missions with, hurts. And I also find it hard to do another campaign immediately after. Midair collisions happened often in furballs - overall situational awareness goes down the drain in such moments. Best you can do, is remember that - and next time, first of all: steal out und up, if any possible. -
Sharkmouth Pfaltz (revisited)

That shark mouth design looks really dangerous on this plane! Great! -

How stupid can a man be??? Now, I just wanted to make a new campaign flight with my Camel pilot David Marlowe. Short after takeoff, I remembered, that I had promised Interlocutor, to try a looping in this plane. I was some 500 - 600 feet high, and thought, that should do. Comrades still at taking off - so, why not now? I lowered the nose and zoomed down like for a dive attack; then I pulled her up and up. First attempt became the Immelmann - I could not keep her on her back; she forced her way round. Second attempt, I felt, I had to give a lot of rudder left - but I failed to keep her on her back, and she smeared away sidewards, stalled, and crashed. Now I have DiD set - so, goodbye, David Marlowe; you're just another of these newbies on a tricky plane, who didn't make it. After three missions, man and four promising claims gone to hell! (But I'll return! Next time, I'll be David Oldham!) PS: great find, Wels! -

Ah, at last you picked up the idea again; good! Would also look good on an all silver or grey fuselage; maybe as a tiger shark, with dark bluegrey striping (near a makerel)? If you shouldn't use that idea, I will try it with this skin, you sent me (off the competition, of course). So, the hook brought up some fish at last (Lol!) -

Interlocutor; trim on the ground is allowed in DiD-rules, as it has been done by ground crew. So, find out in flight, how many ticks of "nose down trim" she needs, remember that amount, and use it at each start. And you'll be within the DiD rules. -

Yep, the Immelmann works very well; did that, when attacking a two-seater. But when I read Interlocuter's careful handling the right turn, I ask myself again: does perhaps my older rig not perform the whole trickyness of that crate? Or is a pilot, who is used to a heavier plane like the Albatros, predesinated for flying her? I find her easy to fly - with no problems at all. And the next thing I'll try later today, would be a loop. -
Questions for the experienced Camel drivers
Olham replied to Dej's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
DEJ: I know she has a vicious and famous right hand turn but should she be so incredibly sluggish on the left? Her right hand turn was in fact so much better, that many pilots preferred to do a 3/4 right turn, instead of 1/4 left. But I wonder, if the behaviour we experience, does also depend on the capability of your computer. Cause, my system is lower range, and she behaves nicely and uncomplicated. Perhaps the detailed FM characteristics of a plane would only be used and handled, if the rig can deal with all the data? -
Will self-chosen altitude remain, if I warp then?
Olham posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
If I climb to an altitude, that is higher than were the sim would have set me; and I press "warp" then, will my plane remain at that altitude; or will it come out of warp at the sim chosen alt. again? Does anyone know? -

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks! -
Wow - great footage; hadn't seen this yet. A must for all two-seater fans; and you see a ballon, and a fighter downed; also our nemesis - the Flak in action. Thank you for sharing, Wels!

You lucky island people! Some people say, the S.E.5a was ugly and bulky. Don't they have eyes? She is a beautiful plane to me! Great shots, Tonyo! -
My new pilot, Leutnant Detlev Ritter von Mahlo, Jasta 1, Vivaise, May 1917, was just lucky! Recently, I couldn't seem to do a thing right. But now I just had a scramble, and I thought, well, doesn't really matter anymore, if this one too will get messed up by vertical diving enemy fighters - just do your best to have some fun. But then I saw no less but 12 FE2b crossing overhead, but not coming down! Twelve of these crates, that's like 12 Christmas turkeys! So, I was egotistic enough, to keep my wings behind me as witnesses, and do the attack alone. I managed to destroy 4 of them in mid air, and shot up two so badly, they curved downwards with trails of smoke. And what do you think, flight 1 did now? Right - they were too slow at climbing, or too lazy; so they just shot up my descending two Fees, stealing my kills. Tch - unbelievable, but true. But anyway, I had 4 definite kills; so now my claims are ten, and if they should all get confirmed, and my pilot still be alive then, I would finally have one for the board, Siggi.

I meant the Albatros of Bohning (or Böhning) - blue and white striped fuselage, with the card "Ace of Spades" on the sides. You will buy a Porsche? I didn't know, they pay you so much for the skins! Hey, I want a Harley Davidson Sportster - give some skinning jobs away! Oops - almost forgot: I finished the Albatros D Va "Stropp" today. Followed Dan San Abbotts opinion, that she had DarkGreen/Mauve camouflage. But still have the other version ready. Here are pics. -
Maybe, because it didn't happen like this in the earlier versions? I am no real pilot. So I don't know, how hard these clear air turbulences can get. I can only report, that in two occasions, short after one another, my plane broke up in mid air, when I flew into the outer haze of a cloud. If you now say, that this could well happen; that a craft like the Albatros is getting thrown and whirled around in such a heavy manner, that it breaks up - from flying only through a veil of haze - then I'll have to accept it.

File Name: Albatros D Va Stropp File Submitter: Olham File Submitted: 15 Apr 2009 File Updated: 20 Oct 2009 File Category: Aircraft Skins Skin created from original OFF skins made by OvS/James Romano and Paarma/Arto Karttunen. Here's the first downloadable Version of the Albatros D Va "Stropp" now. Whilst the National Air and Space Museum gave her Lozenge pattern wings at the restauration, Dan San Abbott from The Aerodrome believes, she rather had DarkGreen/Mauve camouflage upper wing surfaces. As that also fitted the colour design of the plane better (IMHO), I completed the work with these wings. I may add the other version later, too. Click here to download this file

What? 15 kills, 20 hours - in a Pfalz??? I must be a real looser... (Lol!)

It amazes me, that just you, Siggi, approach BHaH this way. I had thought, you were rather the opposite character. The way you do it, is very grown up and serious; and I wish for you, that at least one of your pilots will make it really long; cause then he will have a real chance to make a good kill tally (like Ernst Udet, who must have had roughly 1 kill on 15 sorties!) I wish, I could be more like that; but each time, I'm up there, I feel a tremendous freedome, and almost invincible. I don't fear any opponent. I never feel outnumbered; take on every fight, and often even search them. But when I wrote the above, earlier on, I was just in a depressed mood. I will carry on later today, and try to survive a little longer this time...

Hi, Simon Sorry to hear that. Be careful, old boy - as far as I know, Tetanus should be three injections. Not sure, if yours is still strong enough? If it helps you: I won't do any skinning today or tomorrow. Lots of work to do, and tomorrow, I'll buy balcony flowers with Dorina (step by step...Lol!)...
-
Siggi, I'm doing more skinning than flying - could really do with that monitor. But that's not the only reason. I lost three pilots of my new pilot (there aren't any old) to cloud turbulences (even by flying through a veil of haze); never had that before last patch; two got killed by ground fire; and three by breaking up craft in mid air. I must admit, that I'm fed up a bit at the moment, of constantly getting killed by all these incidents. I just can't seem to get anywere...

First look at Albatros D Va "Stropp"
Olham posted a topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
With thanks to the sender of the documentary about the Albatros D Va "Stropp" from Jasta 46. I did my best to get everything as close as possible. But the rudder of the plane in the docu is a late, longer and rounded version, all of wood as it seems; that I didn't find in BHaH. Also, we don't have a Jasta 46 yet. But maybe one day...?
