Thank you, Tuba, and all. We will try the setup on Thursday or weekend, and I'll report after that. Edit: Typhoon wrote in his signature: "The only stupid question is the one not asked" (or similar). I think, this forum is a great opportunity to get the most possible out of the BHaH, WW1 combat aviation, and even anything else, as this is a community, we won't find so easily elsewere. I wish, everyone would drop their shame to ask a "stupid" question. You'll always find gentle people, who are more than willing to answer them.

Rudder advice requested from the REAL pilots
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thank you all! I have dug out the rudders again, and tried them on a plane, that's more forgiving, than the Albatros. I made two QC scrambles in a Fokker Dr.1, attacked by S.E.5a. Although the Dr.1 started with disadvantage, it was quickly above the attackers, and appeared to be incredibly agile with use of pedals. I could even almost do "impossible" things; like 180° turns with no more than a 30° bank. Only aiming and shooting will take some new learning now in combination with this new rudder. But I could already down two planes in each scramble. So that looks promising. Thanks again. -
This has been posted in the old forum before, but is worth to see again. I like the play of the valves on the Albatros engine! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-58SS77U84...feature=related But, even when the real MvR appeared to look more mature - they still were rather boys but men. Mick Mannocks face (in WomenFly2's thread) too: the face of a tall boy.

The Glory and Tragedy of Hauptmann Gunter Mahlo
Olham posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oberleutnant Eisenberg Jasta 12, 21. März 1918 This morning at 08:16 h, our flight of 3 Fokker Dr.1 started with our new leader, Hauptmann Mahlo, for a patrol flight in foggy and cloudy weather. The enemy is everywere these days. At 08:37 h, we spotted a flight of 3 SPAD XIII, tangling with our flight 1, some 2000 feet higher up. Hauptmann Mahlo climbed fast, and attacked a SPAD, that had just shot down a Triplane, burning. He made several good hits on the SPAD, big pieces came off, and finally it exploded at 08:40 h, north- west of our field at Mont St.Martin. Flight 1 had meanwhile destroyed one SPAD, the third flew off, heading east. Hauptmann Mahlo followed it, and we witnessed, when the SPAD began to attack our field at Premont. It hit and destroyed two craft on the ground; and it was so fast underway, that it took four attacking rounds, before Hauptmann Mahlo could get behind the enemy. He gave the SPAD two good bursts, and it nosed right down into the dirt behind a hangar. We now headed back for home, but we ran into more enemies. A flight of 6 Sopwith Camel from RNAS-1 was in a tight turnfight with flight 1, cloase above the trees. Our new Hauptmann went right into them and shot the first Camel down in his first turn. Later we found out, it was RNAS ace Maxwell H Findley. It soon became obvious, that there were more aces involved. Now I got worried, about how much ammunition our leader had left. But he did his best to help flight one; in vain though. They fell like the leaves in autumn. Mahlo now climbed after another Camel, and when it tried to escape in a dive, he got above it and shot a piece off the left wing. The Camel swayed and turned, but a second burst finished it off. By now, only Hauptmann Mahlo and I were left from both flights; and still three Camels with us. While I could chase one off Mahlo's tail, the other two shot at him from two angles. He had no chance. His plane was hit so hard, it drew a trail of smoke. He tried to make an emergency landing, as his engine failed out. But around him only trees. He crashed fatally, and the wreckage burnt out. With deep respect - Oberleutnant Eisenberg -

Enemy aces can be downed by you, but not killed. Nor can you in any way change the outcome of the war, so NO for both. And NO: my name is not Pol (Lol!) -
Flieger Test Dummy just did a "test ride" on the Dr.1, with HOTAS Cougar and his pedals reinstalled. My god, what a ride! I thought I saw one of the pilots of an S.E.5a vomit out the cockpit - dizzydizzy - but they had no chance to get behind this plane. Shot two down in this scramble, and now I'm hot for more. What this plane can perform with realistic rudder, is incredible!

I only know the pier of Brighton (I think it was). My neighbour has made a flight through Germany, and even found the Berliner Tor (Berlin gate?) with the 4 horses on it. Wonder, how he got refueled?

Oh my - didn't I mention, I was rather a pc idiot? (But, well - perhaps you mean, if I get to grips with it, everybody can. Lol!)

Widow - here we agree. Even on a 19", the view can only concentrate on the mid section - for the corners, you must really look there, away from the mid. So, I don't want a widescreen. It's a bit like panorama fotos - funny to look at, but you can't see the whole at once.

So you're from Texas, eyh? Running 2 x 285 GTX's, you may only need an extra water tower for cooling. (Lol!!!) Well, for the settings of the overrides, maybe CAMELJOCKEY might know the best?

Aren't we merry men already - with a combat flight sim, leaving nothing much to desire, and a forum, that could hardly have any better members, Gous? Cheers, mate -
Take the S.E.5a then - a solid, reliable plane; even when you fly her tired or half drunk. Have fun!
-
And still believeable for an Allied plane - good work, RedDog.

Nevemind, Lou. He's in THAT mood again - I assume, Jasta 12 just kicked his boot again. -
This looks really helpful to me about the IP adresses. I've copied and save this, and will use it on Thursday's meeting. Thank you very much, Tamper!

No, we all mess around sometimes. I even regularly, when trying to win the war single handed, and save every flight member personally. You have compared the pilot file with other intact files? Or you could make a new transfer with another pilot, (after saving his data), and see, what it needs?
-
Hey, flyboys! In between two f(l)ights: ditto to all! Isn't it great?? [Mercedes engine sound, increasing] See you over the lines!! [Mercedes engine really loud, leaving]

Test Pilot - the WW1 pilots DID trims, but couldn't do it in mid air. It was done with the ground crew. Now, why should you fly untrimmed? As you don't have a ground crew, you can only do it in mid air, by pressing a related button, until your trim is right. Not perfectly historical then, but the result is more like those pilots could have it. So don't be ashamed to use it, I'd say.

Thank you, Tamper We tried the direct connection with a crossover, but no connection. Maybe due to VISTA. Now, I'll get me a new router and try, what you described. Sounds plain easy. If I have success, I'll tell you on Thursday. Thakns again!

Rudder advice requested from the REAL pilots
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
May I make this serious suggestion to the devels: Could and would you get in touch with WomenFly2 and other pilots, who have flown specific aircraft, which also appear in BHaH - for the exchange of information about their characteristics? Wouldn't this be a great expanding of the models. At least for future versions? I just assumed freshly, that you would exchange your knowledge with the team, WomenFly2, Todt von oben and other pilots, and you would - wouldn't you? -
Have you checked all the pilot data? There might be some elsewere (forgot the name - pilot.xml or uisel something).

How close "our" skinners of "Between Heaven and Hell" (*) have got with their art works, can nicely be seen in these two videos about a Fokker Dr.1 triplane. Flight of the Fokker Dr.1 Triplane--Kingsbury Why Not Land Your Fokker Triplane in a Crosswind? A pitty, that the first video has got the soundtrack removed by YouTube. *) thank you, Paarma, OvS, Makai, Sandbagger and Pol

This is developing to a nice "pilot's banter and chatter" here - great stuff! Although being a non-pilot, I personally thought, when I saw the tip down of the right wing: Well, so what? The whole plane is dancing on these wings in the air, and at sudden, vast pull-ups or tight turns, an enormous power must work on these wings. So, what should this little touchin daisies do to them?
