  1. Italian Spad Skin

    Good job done, Widow!
  2. PS: how comes, that some Italian planes have the roundel sequence green-white-red, and others red-white-green???
  3. Ah - so the SPAD XIII someone had just recently posted a photo of (in a shopping mall), was not Baraccas, but Picci's. It carried this same black Griffin.
  4. Gentlemen of the skies

I only know, that Manfred von Richthofen made an interesting remark to a man he met on a train ride. "I am after all only a combat pilot;" von Richthofen said, "but Boelcke, he was a hero." Manfred von Richthofen's 60th victory was a two-seater, and he attacked the crew with his brand-new Fokker Dr.1 Triplane. His description of the attack ends with a short statement, that shows no shame or remorse. Von Richthofen said: "Apparently the adversary had taken me for a British triplane, as the observer stood up in his machine without making a move to attack me with his machine gun." One does not know the inner feelings or judgements of Manfred von Richthofen, but in his appearance and speech, he was all the Prussian soldier, who didn't show sentiments about such events. I guess that Boelcke was different. Maybe warmer and with more noticable empathy.
  5. Gee, we're getting there - great work, Lou!
  6. Jasta 22 had a busy day on 7 July, 1917. The French attacked ground targets everywhere around our base at Vivaise. SPADs went very low for strafing our truck columns; Nieuport 17bis attacked our neighbouring airfield at Chambry. More Nieuports tried to destroy a balloon nearby. A madhouse! But I sent down a Nieuport, and short after him, a SPAD from the "Storks"!

  8. Thank you, Lou - one of them is a co-project of you and me; I used your Backhausen & Söhne fabric; thanks for that! I see you will also add some to our "Little Italy" project; your SPAD is looking good! I wonder if you can assist HouseHobbit about the mission building - I guess you have at least some knowledge of the war down there?

  20. The skins will get finished and uploaded this weekend, Beanie. I am still waiting for news on Stumpy's seaplanes - did you discover them? Are they among the treasure box Lou has recently excavated? Should be interesting to fly them; or to escort or attack them in the Gulf of Trieste or Venice. Here is a map of that front - maybe helps a little.
  21. Interesting find, DonL! They have also found remains of trees in such high regions of (now molten) glaciers, that it becomes more understandable, how Hannibal could have crossed the Alpes with elephants in his army. There have been such warmer periods before, it seems.
