  1. Do you have a WWI movie idea?

Many good ideas can be developed in a WWI aviation movie..."conflict of classes" in the war was one of them as Olham said, in Blue Max. Superstition (and jealousy) was another idea in the french movie "L'instinct de l'Ange" (Angel Instinct would be the obvious translation but i think Angel's Wings is the name of this movie out of France) here is a sample : the movie in about a french pilot whose life really looks like Guynemer's life: he's got a fragile health, came from the same social class, crashed a lot of planes at the begining of his career, was hit by enemy fire more than any other pilot, seems to live only to bring down enemy planes, spending his free time to check and re-check his plane and machine-guns...In the movie, the hero was gradualy exclued of the squad friendship just because he's too different from the average. Too succesfull, and too rigid with his duty. Many of his fellow pilots start to think death is around him and is his trail even for members of his flight. That's the price they pay for his incredible "luck", in their opinion. The ace will soon have enemies even in his home airfield. http://www.videocollection.com/product.html?product_id=47747 One thing i'd like to see in a WWI movie is the evolution of soldier coming from the mud of the trenches, transfered to aviation. A man like this can't have the same point of view about airwar and "aerial chivalry" than pilots that didn't have the experience of the trench warfare as a simple soldier. "Blue Max" is about this in some ways but did not go far enough in my opinion.
  2. Another site with photographs

    Didn't work for me too...try this : http://www.koelbach.de/archiv/karl/airplanes.html , should work better... ( i've just google "koelback.de" to access)
  3. DFW C V with bombs, banking

On German Fighter (Fokkers or Albatros for example) especially the squad leaders aircraft, it was very usual to see flare cartridges on the side of the fuselage according to the pics i've seen. I think i've seen a pic of MVR in his DR1 cockpit with that sort of thing. Keep in mind that cockpits were very cramped at this time and it was often more easy to reach something close outside than inside.
  4. What do you think this is ?

Beer bottles support home made prototype? I'm already out and far, far away... :whistling: (sorry, Rooster already made the joke!)
  5. DFW C V with bombs, banking

Very nice shot, i agree! (coming from the site you find about flieger portraits?) Probably shot from a camera on a wing strut...we are used to see this nowaday with pocket camera with wide angle on the wing, but at this time, this should have been a pionner experience! Not sure but i think its a flare cartrige rack (to use with the apropriate pistol) on the side of this plane.
  6. Portraits of the German Aces

...also have a look at the links page: http://www.buddecke.de/index1.htm seems to be interesting as well ( i mean there's a lot of quite rare WW1 hi-res pics , while i don't understand a word of german )
  7. Portraits of the German Aces

...and "flechette" was the french name for this top technology weapon. Almost as successfull and as decisive in the war than the fishnet drop on your six o'clock oponent to stop his propeller or the hunting rifle used by observer in 1914. Speaking of german aces portraits, i find this while searching on the web : www.frontflieger.de/2-jg1portrait.html . At first, i was looking for a picture of Wolfram von Richtofen after using the link given by Olham ...I saw a portrait in one of my books about the last fight of Manfred Von Richtofen, april 21, while Wolfram was a rookie pilot (first CAP) ordered by MVR to return at his home aifield, in case of enemy encounter. This portrait was intended to be Wolfram and it was this one (so my book or the site is wrong): I think my book was wrong and his name was Johann Peter Baur as it's said on the site ( they looks quite well serious).
  8. OT Swine Flu II

Speaking of swine flu...anyone as recent news of the famous flyer, Porco Rosso?
  9. Just let me help you...you were just talking about french supremacy in many fields. In spite of modesty is one of them, i'm obliged to agree with you. Most seriously, i've heard that Lilienthal was german, Wright bros were american, Antony Fokker was dutch, Sikorsky was russian, and british famous plane designers were innumerable...trying to answer which nation give the most to aviation is a waste of time. WW1 aviation is really interesting for this: all nations at war gave te best they got to improve and create numerous new aircrafts. This upgrade aviation to high level within only 4 years . What a way between the Taube or Bleriot of the early days and the Fokker DVII or Spad XIII at the end of the conflict!
  10. Great finding Olham. Most Guynemer photographs show him with a Spad or a Nupe, and good picture of him with the Morane monoplane is quite rare. Perhaps it was not his plane for long. One of the plane i'd like to see in an OFF3 future add-on.
  11. OT Swine Flu II

You should not. It was not your fault as far as i know it and your joke should not necesary lead to this. Anyway, if nothing on earth would be more serious and sad, we would probably live in a peacefull, quiet ...and as well much anoying world. Anyone ever watch this cartoon (Porco Rosso)? I did'nt...it was just apropriate for the joke and don't know if it was a worldwide succes. ;-)
  12. Wow!!! That burning zep is really an explosive screenshot! I almost smell the flaming hydrogen. I like very much the Albatros "red eagle" as well...maybe the best fictional skin i've seen yet.
  13. I agree it really looks like a Hanriot HD1 ...is that really a screenshot from BH&H or any previous version of the game? The graphic quality seems to be... "different" from what i'm used to see in this topic.
  14. Awesome Dr.1 in air video ...

Very interesting vid! Specially the low flight around trees...awesome! Nice to see such a bird in flight.
  15. French medals.

Just write "Croix de Guerre" ("War Cross" literally) and everything is OK. It was created in the early part of WW1 (january 1915) to reward courage on the battlefield. There was, before that and during the rest of the war, the "Médaille Militaire" and, of course, the famous "Légion d'Honneur" but i guess it was a more exclusive reward...
  16. 1.30c

Good idea to show new screenshots of the game ...i hope we'll see new official vids soon (nothing new since N°11 vid). Still waiting for a brand new computer to match the game, so vids and screenshots help a lot .
  17. French foxes against german wolves! It's realy a wild world...i hope you got your anti-rabies up to date anyway!
  18. von Richtofen's Triplane...?

I've just read (well, "flew over" would be more exact) a topic about this, very long topic ... http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/aircraft...-triplanes.html To sum up, it seems that only the last DR1, MvR flew when he died was all red. That confirm Ovs reply.
  19. von Richtofen's Triplane...?

It seems that the famous triplane looks more like this than the entierely red scheme claim by the legend.
  20. Ain't she a beautiful Lady?

Thanks a lot...it look's like a gold mine to me! (How could i have lived until now without knowing this forum? Amazing!)
  21. Ain't she a beautiful Lady?

Having the engine ready is a good start...i guess its now quite rare! I had find the site of a german building a Fokker DVII (and also selling it): his job is awesome and take care of the details. http://www.collectors-edition.com/FokkerD7/index_english.htm but you may know it already.
  22. Ain't she a beautiful Lady?

Thanks. I specialy like the first video...i don't understand a single word of german but i guess the rebuilt D III has (and probably will) never fly? Seems to be in condition to take off,through...what a pity!
