  1. http://s148.photobucket.com/user/Maeran/library/Shuttleworth%20Collection?sort=3&page=1 As previously mentioned, I've been on holiday for a week. I went to the Shuttleworth collection because they have flying days were (very weather permitting) they have WW1 aeroplanes flying. Sadly there was too much wind on the day I went (although I did get excited when they wheeled out the SE5a, only to be told it was easier to stow the Hawker Hurricane in this way). But I did take lots of pictures. I'm a rubbish photographer, much better at cycling (my holiday was in fact cycling from London to Edinburgh) and I'm sorry to say I didn't get what Olham was asking for - although I have enquiries pending on that matter. Still, what I have may be of interest to you; so enjoy.
  2. For Olham: A Glimpse at RB3D

Yes Olham, you are fortunate. Long may you continue to be. Ah Wings.. I still love the piano tune...
  3. B-29 just flew over my house

The battle of Britain memorial flight used to fly along the road I grew up on, on their way to the Southport air show. I miss those times; it is a thrill.
  4. Dear oh Dear... We Need WOFF

If I'm lucky I won't be able to because they are prepping them for flight! But with the stormy weather you may get your wish. Good either way.
  5. Dear oh Dear... We Need WOFF

I check in here daily, but by and large don't say much. I'll have something for you all after my holiday next week, since I am going to see the Shuttleworth Collection on Sunday.
  6. For Olham: A Glimpse at RB3D

I got a sidewinder to play Red Baron II (which later patched to '3d') in 1998, with my second wage packet. It still works, and I only replaced it as my usual stick in order to use force feedback in OFF.
  7. Windsocks are there. Usually 2/3 of the way down the line of the field. I don't believe they move with the wind though. You can get the wind direction from the brief and when there is smoke from chimneys, I would like to believe they show the wind.
  8. Balloon Attack Question

In real life - yes, the balloon would shoot up to a greater height and then ride away on the wind. But the cable is steel and not likely to be damaged by anything less than a direct artillery hit (not likely). More chance going for the winch at the bottom, if that weren't suicidal. In game, I'm not at all sure you can even hit the cable. Has any madman deliberately tried to ram it?
  9. 100 Years Ago...

IE 10 strikes again. I'll change my browser. I don't think the thinking behind it is that complicated. Like the millennial (did I ever learn to spell that right?) celebrations, they want to have their spending cake now rather than wait for the appropriate time. Have any other countries announced any plans at all?
  10. Slightly later now as they must research the nicknames, pet names and favourite colours of every pilot to serve in the Great War.
  11. German 2 seater campaign

Most of the fighter squadrons have the chance to get Brisfits.
  12. British money at the time was £SD. Pounds shilling and pence. The divisions between these were shown by back slashes /. So the wages here are using the last two sections of the register: shillings and pence. No pennies are actually involved, it's all in shillings. In 1912 the shilling was worth about £3.29 today, but this of course makes no consideration of the huge inflation experienced in the second half of the 20th century. Today it would get you 2 loaves of bread, but not lunch in a city centre. Back then 2 shillings a day was a good rate for a tradesman. Bear in mind that the RFC would not consider men without an appropriate trade until well into the war.
  13. OFF Relief: A Night "OFF"

I did none of that and so cannot take the salute. But I am glad that you are back to getting some use out of your OFF. We all need a bit of leisure time to blow off steam. If we don't we end up going mad. Mad! I tell you!!!!!!
  14. There are less immediate things to learn. If this is indeed A2540, then the German air service considered it worth carefully dismantling a captured DH2 in October 1916, 8 months after the type appeared over the lines. (the roundel is still visible on the upper right wing, so they aren't re-rigging it for a test flight). We also get to some idea of the size of a German working party and how a rigger spreads his weight as he works on a wing. You don't see many 'working' photos of ground crew.
  15. I've been learning to use blender for about a year now. This is my latest work which I hope you'll like. Any criticism is welcome. As is praise (well you never do know). Does anyone have a good reference for the control wires for the BE2e? As far as I can tell, they run down the inside of the wings to the ailerons, relying on that strut for leverage. I can't be certain from the drawings and photos I've found though.
  16. Is this a Lloyd?

I can imagine what Voss would have done with the 'face' on that cowling.
  17. *makes a mental note to go and see the Shuttleworth collection this summer* That's an awesome video. Kermit was flying at pretty much the same altitude and below the RE8. If he dived he would have had a much higher closing speed, but this is a sunny afternoon test flight. Did anyone else turn their head to track the RE8 with their trackIR?
  18. It surprises me a bit. My 6 year old godson wanted nothing more than a bike 'with gears' last Christmas. But then, I'm a keen cyclist so I might have encouraged him a little bit.
  19. Lots to do, texture wise and crew, but here's an idea where this is headed.
  20. Merry Christmas, Friends!

Happy Christmas to every one of you. I hope the coming year brings you everything you dearly wish for. This is partly selfish as I know you dearly wish for WOFF.
  21. Thanks for that photo, hairyspin. It does show the nose detail very well, I shall incorparate this into my model. I haven't the first idea about getting a model into the sim, but if I were to try that I would model something that isn't in there already, like an Armstrong Whitworth FK8 or something like that (Dolphin?). This model is far too high poly to be used in a game (it's got the complete frame inside for a start). It is intended to be used in a few artistic scenes I have in mind. There is also an Albatros D1 in the works for this reason. Not painted up yet, so this is a temporary colour scheme. There's a lot of pleasure to be had in simply modeling the aircraft and exploring their forms. I know a lot more about the RAF 1 engine than I did a month ago!
  22. There's an update to OFFbase? That program's fun, thanks for creating it Lothar. I've never really been a heavy poster on this forum. mainly I check in and read.
  23. The CFS3 Targeting Cone...

I'm hazy on this (never liked it myself), but doesn't the target cone only appear if you have a target selected and it isn't in view?
  24. There is certainly nothing resembling a rainy season or a dry season in northern Europe. A mysterious yellow disc is sometimes seen. Usually through a window at work, in my case.
