Will someone pull another chair over, and pull a pint for Widowmaker? He's taken one to the heart.
  2. New WOFF video by Hellshade

Pretty fine! I'm lovin' those cockpits. In some of the earlier screen caps they looked very brand-new and freshly polished. These are looking more used and lived in. Do you think I can get a modded Dr.1 with a picture of Traude Bergman on the instrument panel?
  3. A few evenings back, I was on YouTube (again) checking out dogfight vids and found a good 5-part program of the evolution of the German Night Fighter and the radar war over the Reich. The narrator points out that the two-engine fighter, like the WWI British Battle Cruiser, was an essentially flawed idea that never worked out in practice, tho' I'd read that the P-38 Lightning was the sole exception. Turns out, on the day the Mosquito was debuted to the Air Ministry, it beat a Spitfire by 20 mph. I can see why intercept squadrons had trouble catching them.
  4. Back again. Went on YouTube looking for flight sim footage of Mosquitos. Found some, but also found this archival footage overview. . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLdVIKyx7RE . The most interesting snippet of information was, that the Mosquito was so fast, so difficult to get a firing angle on, that if a German pilot shot one down, he was credited with two kills. Anyone know if this is true?
  5. $46.89. A bit dear. I'll keep these guys bookmarked, but I think the "Just Flight" is spot on. Thanks again.

Serves the little blighters right for straying, eh?
  7. This is just getting better and better. Thanks guys. . OK, back again. Checked out the 'Just Flight' link. 'Everything a Mossie junkie could ask for: Carthage, Jericho, Amiens...plus the opportunity to raise hell all over northern Europe. Thanks, 33LIMA. If we meet in the BOC Mess, I owe you. Big time.
  8. Heads up, lads, we've got a fresh one, right from the 'Puppy Farm'. Sign him up, collect his dues, before he bolts.
  9. The Oslo mission had its set-backs too. Four planes, carrying 500 lb. bombs with an 11 sec, delay, attacked the Victoria Terrasse building. According to the Wikipedia article, four bombs landed on target. One failed to explode and the other three continued on, punched out through the back wall, and exploded outside among civilian residences, killing about 80 people. . Still, the raid (the first of its kind) was deemed a success and was announced on the BBC. This was the first time that the government acknowledged the existence of the Mosquito.
  10. Sounds like we're getting closer. I figured the maps would be a sticking point, but that perhaps I could get there in FSX (which I've had but never got into) and use a map/terrain of modern Oslo. 'Don't know if FSX has a Mosquito, or if I could import one. I don't really need a bomb load, exploding buildings, fighter interception, etc. I just want to see what it would look like tear-assing down the main street at roof-top level (or slightly less) and see if I can stay clear of roofs, lamp posts, electrical lines, etc. First things first. Then bombs.

True, we are the step-child now. But we have only to keep steady, and be what we have always been: the hub for discussing OFF-related subjects, a source of fascinating WWI minutiae, sparkling wit, and intellectual ferment, graced by the most collegiate atmosphere. Despite our reduced numbers, the lost lambs will come straggling back. Mark my word.
  12. Dodo? I thought it was the sound a pilot makes when upchucking his breakfast, plus a full belly full of beer, chips and sausage over the edge of the cockpit while the engine's warming up. Still, if the notion finds favor with other members, I'll throw my support to it. (tho' it sounds pretty damned barmy to me.) . And...about women in the BOC Mess. The meaning of my "Change the Rules!" was, if a member has a hot date, and the options for the evening are (1) going to a Chamber Music recital at the local cathedral. or, (2) an evening of carousing with we lot, by all means bring her along. But this radical talk of full membership is the barmiest thing yet!
  13. OFFers we were. and OFFers we should remain. I have thought long and hard on this. Although my reasons are well-founded, (on which I will expound fully on a moments notice, or, a cold pint pressed against my palm) I did review the basic tenets of my argument last night, and they were so abstruse, if not flat-out barmy, that I move that my views be adopted without further discussion. If that's not barmy enough for you, what are you doing in this thread? I know, I know, WOFF is coming and big changes face us all. God knows, we all want to be up-to-date and "thoroughly modern", but where would we be if we abandoned our vague, but cherished, core values? The transition will be difficult I'm sure, and long, (about two weeks) but I'm sure that if we hold firm, the young WOFFers coming along will look at us with envy and say, "There go the old dogs. The ones who blazed the trail for us all. Would that I had been there in that early golden dawn!"
  14. Now that I teetering on the brink of buying a 50", the thought occurs to me: Where to you mount the TrackIR? It would seem that all choices would put it above, or 'way off to the side if your head is looking at the center of the screen.
  15. I'm with you 100% on that. Tablets (unless it can run Windows) are just internet portals and I don't need to be connected every waking second of the day. I too, keep a Nikon SLR for photos. Phone cameras are just the new Brownie Box Camera, (circa 1910).
  16. Now that's damned odd. When I sign cheques it's the money that seems to fade away.
  17. Sure! And do it again tomorrow . RAF Lou: I was expecting something like that, but if you're going to wish, wish big.
  18. Revise the Rules! Revise the Rules!
  19. I am retired, and I do live in a quiet, rural area, and 'no', I don't want to jump in with a ground attack unit and get down in the weeds, skimming over trenches with every man-jack in the province taking pot shots at me! Look where it got von Richtofen. I envision a nice placid, over-the-lines photo recon sortie where I can take the flight up to an obscene altitude, snap a few photos and scoot home. Or, maybe an early morning bombing run with heaps of fighter escort. We'll ruffle up the Crumpets a bit and be back before the sun's too high. Then, a tot of single-malt in the Mess, a quick shower, and take the motorcycle into town and see if I can catch Traude Bergman before she has to get up and go to work. That's the kind of two-seater campaign I'm looking forward to. What do you think my chances are?
  20. Good to hear. All of it. I had been leery of committing a large block of time to a mission and not be able to finish it. When I take the plunge, I'm certain I'll be with a Roland C.II squadron. I'll be checking in for two-seater advice frequently.
  21. Glad to hear you got a speeded up date for the surgery. Concentrate on recovery, and if you're still trapped there in hospital when WOFF releases, The Barmy OFFers will see to it a copy of WOFF gets in your hot, eager hands. While waiting...there's always Nurse Gladys.
  22. Q"WOFF"ing! Brilliantly said! Brilliant, indeed.
  23. I know, I know. I've had it in mind for some time to delve into a campaign, but things seem to get in the way. And yet, I've always fancied the Roland C.II. Maybe now that we're all about to embark on new careers with WOFF, it's time to take the plunge. . Hellshade: I take your point. Seeing as I am currently a bachelor again, I can be cavalier about these things. Were it otherwise, I'm far from certain if I could shrug off the flak.
