OT: World of Planes releases new preview video
Hauksbee replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Neither am I, but if there's a good furball with F-86's and Mig's, then I could be persuaded. -
Occasionally, when I'm flying, TrackIR will suddenly flip the screen upside down. I can usually correct this with an angry-like shake of my head, and it goes back to normal. During some dogfights, 'occasional' becomes 'frequent'. Anyone know what's going on?

I think it would be safe to say that the air in Southeast Asia is very humid just about everywhere. Southeast Asia invented humid. I recall getting off a plane in Hong Kong; 'thought I was going to melt into the pavement. But on approach to Kai Tak, I don't recall condensation coming off the wingtips of our 747. Attached is a plane punching through the sound barrier. -

OT....New CFS3 mod released
Hauksbee replied to almccoyjr's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Right. When a gas expands, the temperature drops. When the high pressure at the leading edge of the wing dissipates into low pressure at the trailing edge, the expansion\temp. drop causes the humidity in the air to condense into fog. But at landing speed? -

As the P-40 touches down (at around 5:10) I see condensation fog coming off the wingtips. I've seen it often on jets at high speed, but it does seem odd on a P-40 at landing speed. Has anyone else seen this in similar situations? -
A 10 minute long film detailing a Battle of Britain incident. Outstanding CGI work, gorgeous photography on the ground, and an ending you'll not expect. http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/features/short-film-the-german-nick-ryan.php

OT There's flying low, and then there's ...

An incredible collection of photos. Love the South African Harvards (T-6 Texans) with their wheels touching the water. (now that's bold!) And...P-47's are even tougher than I had thought. -
A short, magnificent film...

Another very good, if brief, film. Thanks Olham. -
He's trying to think of a good explanation for his C.O.

I think it would be great, (as an austerity measure) to go back to string-bag biplanes for all the world's Air Forces.

Trade Shows did not give rise to "Murphy's Law" ("If anything can go wrong, it will") but only because someone got there first. Trade Shows are 'chaos in action'. Clients know these shows happen every year, yet still wait 'way too long to get the specs. to you. They make too many changes to the booth design, which crowds you on time even worse. There's never enough in the budget...Oh God! Don't get me started! -
50? You're still just a kid, f' Chris'sake! You've got many years of debauchery ahead before it catches up with you.

God, I love this photo. I first saw it on a poster in the 70's. The caption was: "Aviation is not inherently dangerous, but even more that the sea, it is unforgiving of any carelessness or neglect" I did not buy the poster and later wished I had. Many times. I mentioned it on this Forum, hoping someone could point me to a place that still sold it. While nobody could help find the poster, several people sent URL's to photo archives that had very similar pictures. All dealing with an airplane fetched up in a tree which is the only tree in a large empty field. So how does this happen? Didn't the pilot see the tree? About a year ago, I read an account of why. This explanation dealt with automobile accidents in which it was clear that the accident was going to happen, but the drivers plowed into each other anyway. It seems that the reason is that in a crisis, you can't look away. To avoid the accident you must look away, in the direction you need to go, but, in the event, your fear keeps you looking directly at the oncoming disaster.

Are OFF towns and cities historically accurate?
Hauksbee posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I know that a huge amount of research has gone into making planes historically accurate, and trench lines move according to the historical clock as does weather we fly in. But as I was looking at P4 pics. posted by Pol, I became aware of a rather large city that faded off into the distance. Which added another whole dimension to the research load, and modeling, even if modular units are used to create buildings. I don't know how much of France is modeled in OFF, but would I be correct in assuming cities to be accurately modeled? -

I googled 'SOH CFS3 Forum' and it took me here: http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/go/067e0cfccc0b131c6622a9d259c47689/cfs3-pto-rising-sun I'm downloading now. It's in 9 zipped parts. -

If you truly can, then it begs the question; "Where is P4?" On the the other hand, I can understand that nothing moves very fast at -10C. -
Are OFF towns and cities historically accurate?
Hauksbee replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'd have to agree that modeling towns and villages would be a waste of resources seeing as the game play never gets down to street level. I only ask because I've gotten so used to hearing lavish praise for the Devs that I'm now convinced they can walk on water. -
