How to open a Skins.dds document....

Sorry! False alarm. Re-read the tutorial [which has been sitting under the computer for the last few weeks.] Launch DXT. Ahhh... -
Over Flanders Fields Between Heaven and Hell Nungesser (video)

We ran a thread on this a week or so back. I posed the same question and it seems that nobody has yet seen an enemy plane in the mirror. Occassionally I think I see cloud formations but mostly it's just white/grey abstact blobs. -
Comments on the Fokker Dr I?
Hauksbee replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
When I started with OFF, the only plane I could keep in the air was an SE-5. Everything kept stalling and falling. After a bit, when I finally got my "1916 hand" going on the stick, the first new plane that I added was the Dr.I. Now everything I've read about the Dr.I says it's extremely unstable on all three axes. They say that average pilots hated it, good pilots loved it. I expected it to try and get away from me, (whatever that means) but I guess I expected it to wander and 'snake' and be very difficult to keep lined up on the target. It has proved not so. I like it. It's certainly nimble and the only time I get into stall troubles is when I try to stay with an enemy in a climbing turn. Most times they get away, whereas if I have a D.VIIF, they don't. So far, I find the Dr.I is better than its reputation. (you could always weaken the top wing spar for a little extra anxiety and entertainment.) -
EA Planes explode, but don't go down burning?
Hauksbee replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
All right. That's higher that I had suspected. As you say, it was all new stuff. But hardly unknown. Zeppelin crews suffered terribly from it, especially when the pursuing planes got better and forced them to ever higher altitudes. -

There it is. You've got to fly whatever they give you. -

It is my understanding that oxygen levels gets pretty thin above 10,000. How high did open-cockpit flyers go? -

As Voss so ably demonstrated... -
Sounds like you may just need another editing program. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio [ approx. $60 US] but there are many out there. First, I'd go to www.downloads.com You're bound to find plenty there, downloadable, often with 30-day trial periods, and a modest fee after that. I also find that a lot of very interesting software can be found, not in computer stores, but in office-supply stores where they also sell computers, printers, paper and ink cartridges.

Amen. Really nice edit, and I especially liked the latter section where you took on the C.II's. But a Nieuport is, I believe, a poor choice to star in a movie because the most interesting point in the action is always covered by that clunky gunsight. -
Yesterday and today were spent in putting together the bare bones of a store on CafePress. You can find it here: http://www.cafepress.com/BURNING_BRYGHT?nocache=yes I've posted four shirt designs in plain white T's, and the same four again on a beige-looking T. They call it 'Organic' Go figure. Then there are nine coffee mug designs. I have every reason to expect that the quality will be good. I ordered a shirt and a mug, but they won't be here for a week. There's still some work to do on it. I have to design the index page and set up the links to each section. For the moment, there's a link on the index page that takes you to White-T's. On that page there's a link to Beige-T's...and a link there to the Coffee Mugs. I'll get it all sorted out better in a day or so. My plan at the moment is to let the profit accrue at CafePress, or open a new bank account and keep it all there until the Dev's decide whether they'll need the community's help or no. If yes, logos can be added and I'll transfer the whole shebang over to them. [The store runs itself]. Here's thumbnails of the shirt designs.

The decoration by the Iron Cross? I've never heard anyone discuss what it was for but it seemed to be quite common. Also, the link below is worth checking out for anyone who wants replica clothing. They're in India and seem to be able to make anything to order. http://www.replicaters.com/ww1germanarmy.html

[LMAO!] I wonder if that pilot ever lived down the ridicule in the mess? -
No problem.

I'm afraid the Huns will charge you a royalty before you can shoot at them.

Great site. And easy to find. It's http://thevintageaviator.co.nz. I got it on the first try. Found the following photo...a variation on my favorite poster. -
Vast apologies sitting duck. I glanced, hastily, at the avatar and thought it was...ah...ol' whatsis... In any event, yes, 12 shots from 12 pilots would be first rate. Let me check the specs. at CafePress. For shirts and mugs they want art at 200 resolution.

Well, they certainly say they can and I'm tempted. The badge turns out to be a basic Aviator's Badge, like the pilot's Wings over the pocket in WWII. http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive1.htm I went to this site to see if I could get a better view on a pilots photo. Turns out, they have a whole section on awards, etc. The basic badge shape was pretty much constant, and then a pilot/observer or gunner symbol filled the inside of the wreath. The link above has a phenominal collection of aviation photos and art from WWI. Don't miss it. All the photos on the coffee mugs in the store were gleaned here. -
Isn't that what the fox said as he entered the chicken coop?

Another oddity that turned up yesterday...a Voison with a 37mm cannon.
-
By all means, if Rabu's for it. All things are possible. We can add as many images on as many different products as we please. It cost nothing. If you have a 'moment-of-triumph' screen shot, and want a T-Shirt, or mug with it on, post it to the store and buy one copy. EDIT: Uncle Al, if you can get 12 good screen shots together, we'll have a calendar

Just flew a flight of four D.Va 200's against six Nieuports 17's. I got my butt handed to me. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd have to say that a D.V cannot turn inside a Nieuport 17. Time and time again, I'd have the D.V banked hard left as one came by, crossing from right to left. It would look like a sure bet, but I never could bring the guns to bear. Unless he was at my exact altitude, I couldn't lift up the nose that extra degree or so. The D.V was in no danger of stalling, she just had no more to give. I'd chase. but he'd stay just out of the kill zone. I'd say the Nieuport's a little faster, but closing didn't seem to be the problem. In the few times I thought I'd had bead on him, tracers would start to fly past me. Seems I always had one of them on my six. Do our other Albatros pilots find this to be the case? Does the '200' in Albatros D.Va200 refer to the 200hp engine fitted to some? And finally, from Wikipedia, Richtofen's assement: "The D.V entered service in May 1917 and, like the D.III before it, immediately began experiencing structural failures of the lower wing. Indeed, anecdotal evidence suggests that the D.V was even more prone to wing failures than the D.III. The outboard sections of the upper wing also suffered failures, requiring additional wire bracing. Furthermore, the D.V offered very little improvement in performance. This caused considerable dismay among frontline pilots, many of whom preferred the older D.III. Manfred von Richthofen was particularly critical of the new aircraft. In a July 1917 letter, he described the D.V as "so obsolete and so ridiculously inferior to the English that one can't do anything with this aircraft." British tests of a captured D.V revealed that the aircraft was slow to maneuver, heavy on the controls, and tiring to fly."

SPAD was not the only one...
Hauksbee replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Speedometer, eh? OK. Also thought it might drive an electrical generator. Why do you say the Tripe engine must be still [you can't mean 'not running'?]to see the speedo prop? -
Cool. Thanks. My problem now is that I want one of everything. Sorry the T-Shirt art can't be larger, but 10x10 is the max.

Problem is, I'm using a Logitech stick that is supposed to give rudder control by twisting. I find it gives little or none, so any tactic that relies on rudder is suicide. EDIT: I'll spend some QC time practicing the 'boom and zoom'. Thanks.

Hey, feel free. [LOL] And the '200'? Does that refer to the engine? [as I rather suppose...]
