P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS
Hasse Wind replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Amazing work. -
Okay, I'll wait. And why would I want to uninstall your mod? I like it!
-
Thanks again for your modding efforts! Is Lima's Arcmod included, or is there a separate download somewhere?
-
Ah, nostalgia! I still have a modded version of RB3D installed. I haven't played it for a while, though. I blame OFF for that.

A Set of WWI Aviation Books With a Bittersweet Surprise
Hasse Wind replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
You have a knack for finding these extremely rare books. (By the way, I managed to find a relatively cheap copy of that Morrow's book I was looking for. It's in excellent condition, has a very good dustjacket and doesn't seem to have been read much. Thanks for your help!) -
Have you seen this? MS Flight
Hasse Wind replied to elephant's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Wow! If they can make that run smoothly on anything less than a supercomputer, I'll be even more impressed. -
How do different countries remember the victims of war
Hasse Wind replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm sorry to hear that's the case. The Swedish volunteers who fought for Finland during WW2 are not forgotten here. -
How do different countries remember the victims of war
Hasse Wind replied to Rugbyfan1972's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
In Finland, there's the National Veterans' Day on April 27th. Additional celebrations and remembrance days are the Day of the Finnish Defense Forces on June 4th and the Independence Day on December 6th. The Independence Day is the most important one, because we've had to pay such a heavy price for our sovereignty. -
Please do good work with reporting bugs so that the game will be perfect when I buy it.

Found a white feather from WW1 with the letter...
Hasse Wind replied to Slartibartfast's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I've read that some British soldiers on home leave and not wearing their uniform also got feathers, because some fanatic thought they were avoiding service. I can only imagine how that would feel. In Continental Europe, practically every country had compulsory military service for all men, so there was less need for such actions. -
Excellent photographs. Some of those battlefields are really well preserved. If you have Google Earth, try looking at some of those areas. For example around Verdun there can be found many old forts and craters.
-
Wait a few months and you'll get it much cheaper, Olham. And of course let the other guys find all the bugs first, so you can have a better experience.

Fortunately OFF doesn't require anything like Steam! And it comes without any kind of silly DRM system. I'm very grateful to the devs for that. Shiloh, you should contact Steam customer support, if you haven't done so already.
-
Of course.

Olham makes great skins. And he's very generously making them for other people too. The Pfalz skins I got are great.

Yeah, I guess it would be safer to have such a pre-paid card. This has been a pretty bad year for online stores. They really need to get their act together, because more and more services are being made available in the web, and criminals will take advantage of it.

OT - Burning Down the House
Hasse Wind replied to Bullethead's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Good to know nobody was physically harmed. I can only imagine how awful it would be to lose everything like that. I hope he had insured his stuff! We have such a lousy climate here that it's necessary to heat our apartments for most of the year, but I guess that means we've becomed accustomed to using heating equipment rather safely. Of course fires still happen. A couple of years ago a house burned down in my neighbourhood. The couple who lived there got out safely, but it was 4 AM in one January morning, so there was plenty of snow and the temperature was about -30°C, so they had to get inside pretty quickly. Fortunately there are quite a few people here, so they got help quickly. It would have been worse if they were one those people who live alone in the wilderness, kilometres away from the nearest town. -
I guess nothing is safe from these criminals. It seems that they can crack any protection and steal whatever they want, and there's nothing we can do about it. I've used my credit card in so many Internet stores that some hacker is bound the get the information sooner or later. You'd think that corporations like Valve and Sony had more than enough money for the best possible security measures, but I guess they either don't care or there really is no way to be safe from these attacks.

OT: An eBay "Buyer Beware" Example
Hasse Wind replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, at least this wasn't another piece of Richthofen's crashed Fokker. Quite a few of those have been sold over the years. Probably enough fabric for more than one Fokker! -
FIFA Backs down re: Poppies :)
Hasse Wind replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I wonder how much money changed hands? Not that I think FIFA is corrupt or anything. -
Tempus fugit! I found OFF in late 2008 while searching new mods for RB3D. I thought nobody was going to make WW1 flight sims anymore, so it was a surprise when I discovered OFF P3. Actually P3 wasn't released yet, but I looked at the screenshots and was instantly hooked. I got the disc in late January 2009 (or was it early February?), installed OFF without any problems (a relief!) and flew a mission with my long-time favourite, the SPAD XIII. It was great! I didn't join the community until March 2009, when I lost my first good pilot, a Pup pilot in No. 54 Squadron to Archie. It was such a great experience that I just had to share it with the world. Olham was among the first to welcome me here. Almost three years later, I'm still here, flying OFF and enjoying it and this community as much as ever. For me, this community is an integral part of my OFF experience.

At those prices, it would be crazy not to buy OFF and HitR! So if anybody is reading this and is still having doubts, all I can say is that I paid full price for OFF and HitR years ago and haven't regretted it for a second.

I'd say it's hard to take a better one with a modern digital camera. And when you think about the relatively primitive cameras of the early 20th century, it's obvious the man was a master photographer.

The Germans had an advantage in their system of getting fighter pilots from bomber and recon units, which meant these pilots were often quite experienced already when they graduated from fighter schools. As far as I know, the French also did that a lot.

As far as I know, that Nupe shown in Hauksbee's post is an actual colour photo, not retouched. Most old colour photographs are French, because the were the pioneers in that field. There was a famous Russian photographer, Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii, who took lots of colour photos from the final years of the Russian Empire. They are also extremely fascinating. Here's one of his pics, showing Austro-Hungarian prisoners in some Russian camp in Karelia (quite close to Finland), the year is 1915:
