P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS
Hasse Wind replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Great! Just what I was hoping to see in P4. -

Yes, but I think he'll come here first, the distance being shorter and all that. It gives you some time to prepare. -

Widowmaker is not going to like this, but the Snipe is one of those aircraft that had a very limited role to play in WW1 and which I would have added only after everything that was built in larger numbers during the war and served in many squadrons was already included. Yes, this means that the bizarre flying contraptions, such as Caudrons, would have been better additions to P4 than the Snipe! -
I think I'm reaching a point where nothing regarding P4 surprises me. Everything seems to be possible!

A WW1 ball game? Well, at least there are no vuvuzelas!

I have to disagree. P4 is going to be a great improvement over P3 in the visual department too, and it would be a shame if the two-seaters weren't up to the new standards. I'd rather wait a bit longer for properly made models than get things faster but in a less polished state. And it would be harder to make more people interested in two-seaters, if they were modelled more poorly. This is the situation in P3 for the most part, and there's no reason to not improve things in P4. -

We'll see them and more in the expansion packs, I guess. -
British Twoseater Campaign

I've been flying British and French two-seater campaigns more than anything else for several months now. It's challenging and fun, and occasionally boring too. I'm glad to know we won't be seeing large Eindecker formations cruising behind Entente lines in P4. It's extremely unrealistic and hurts the immersion every time I encounter them in 1915 - 1916. -
I'm not sure the attack command works for aircraft designated as bombers. But your rear gunner will open fire of his own accord, so you don't have to worry about that. I always try to maintain a tight formation (by pressing R regularly) so that all the gunners can support each other effectively. They can be pretty devastating against enemy aircraft, if you are lucky.

Making it easier to see bandits via flak/Archie
Hasse Wind replied to 33LIMA's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I remember reading from some book (can't remember which one) that when WW2 began, the AA troops of various countries were actually less good at their work and achieved weaker results than their predecessors in the final year of the Great War. Radars were not yet available in large numbers, and proximity fuzes (one of the most important technologies of WW2) were still on the drawing board, so the AA units had to work with equipment that was not dramatically different from or better than what was in use in 1918. As most men didn't have any combat experience, they had to learn again many of the things that their predecessors in WW1 had mastered and put to good use. I became interested in naval fire control systems when I bought Jutland from Storm Eagle Studios, and I can recommend the link Bullethead posted for anybody who shares the interest. I didn't know much about AA fire control systems of WW1, but now I've learned a thing or two from this thread. And dnce again I was surprised by just how advanced many technologies already were in WW1. That conflict took place in a period of history that saw technology develop faster than ever before. If there has been something positive about the two world wars, it must be their dramatic impact on technological progress. -
Interesting article on the RE8
Hasse Wind replied to 33LIMA's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The guys who actually flew those crates and worked on them every day were the ones who knew them best. Their opinions should always be taken into account when creating flight models. The RE is not a bad crate in OFF P3, though I think it somewhat lacks that nasty stall characteristic. -
I think they do, at least for English language books. I've bought quite a few books from Naval and Military Press over the years, always at very low prices from their sales. I've found some very rare books being sold there.

Acrobat or Observer - how the first Recon was done
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Very interesting. Yes, I knew it was all extremely primitive and even dangerous at first. Things did get better as the war progressed. Finally they had aircraft built just for reconnaissance in mind, like the Rumpler C.IV and the Breguet 14 A.2 and GR.2. -
Making it easier to see bandits via flak/Archie
Hasse Wind replied to 33LIMA's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, Archie has been made weaker in OFF from the default settings. When P3 was released, it was still pretty deadly, but one of the early patches made it less so. I've been quite satisfied with the normal settings in late war flying. Earlier in the war, AA fire was even less of a threat to aircraft than in 1917 and 1918, when a lot of progress had been made. Still no radars and proximity fuzes, of course. -
Does P4 get it's own name?
Hasse Wind replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Add in the Eastern front and the Russian revolution, and you can call it: OFF - Revolution I hope P4 will be revolutionary in every way. -

A couple of OFF "cheats" for you.

I like this one: http://www.archive.org/stream/practicalflying00andegoog#page/n9/mode/2up Speaking of drinking and flying, I try to avoid that. "Try" being the operative word. -
No Olham, you didn't. Or if you did, we were in the same dream. Looking forward to P4 AI.

A couple of OFF "cheats" for you.
Hasse Wind replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, that certainly answers everything I was wondering about the problem. Yeah, better landings are in order. But it's easier said than done, when somebody shoots my plane to pieces and then I try to bring her down gently! Still, there's P4 coming, so who knows what the devs can do to this. They've cracked more than a few problematic CFS3 nuts already... -
A couple of OFF "cheats" for you.
Hasse Wind replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think it can happen in any aircraft. If you stay on the landing wheels, it doesn't happen, but if the landing is even a bit too rough and for example the nose hits the ground, it's pretty easy to get killed. I think it shouldn't be so dangerous at slow speeds, though I'm willing to accept the occasional stroke of bad luck that kills or maims the pilot. It's definitely not something that ruins the sim experience, just an occasional nuisance. Edit: I've seen this in unmodified OFF too, so it's not the mods. -

Hasse Wind replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I hope something can be done to the small landing accidents that so often prove fatal in P3. It's annoying when I lose a pilot after a small bounce of the aircraft that has almost stopped moving. I can understand the occasional bad luck (maybe the pilot hit his head or something) but it shouldn't happen so often. There's something wrong with the landing code in CFS3. I prefer to use the die roll setting, so that my pilots have at least some chance of surviving crash landings. -
Engine damage questions

Like I mentioned earlier, I've been satisfied with the current DM mod. I don't want to see the flying burners make a come back.
