P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS Discussion
Hasse Wind replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
That BE12 is exactly what OFF needs more. -
Lewis was used to much more nimble Entente aircraft, so the Alb must have felt heavy compared to some Nupe, for example. Apples and oranges... I'm also looking forward to the HPW FM. I use his improved N.28 FM, and it's great. Also his DM mod works really well.

What Side Do You Fly For and Why?

Lewie, have you tried Bletchley's mods for more realistic mission types? I never fly without those mods these days. Combined with Creaghorn's and HPW's mods, they greatly improve the OFF P3 experience. -
Very cool photos of the G.A.S.

German Wikipedia has lots of information about Luftstreitkräfte. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luftstreitkr%C3%A4fte_%28Deutsches_Kaiserreich%29 -
I think they shouldn't be flown any more. An original is an original, and when it's lost, that's it. It may be rebuilt, but then it's not the same machine as it used to be.

There doesn't seem to be any noticeable difference between cloud settings 3, 4 and 5. If you go below 3, it becomes noticeable. On 3, the sky appears to have just as many clouds as on higher settings.

Beautiful work. If I were a rich man, I'd decorate my house with WW1 aviation art. Those stained glasses would be pretty nice.

I think the biggest problem is your graphics card. It really isn't adequate for OFF, because OFF is much more demanding than CFS3. I'm no computer guru, but I think it would be much easier to get a new card (you don't need the latest and most expensive one for OFF) than to start fiddling around with the graphics files. Rob a bank or something. They're evil institutions, and OFF is really worth it.

I don't know what to say! Wow! -

The way you like to play OFF doesn't make you any less noble, Olham. There is no right or wrong way to play OFF. You do it the way you enjoy the most, and that's all that matters. -
OT: A New Project Followed Me Home
Hasse Wind replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Old cars have certain advantages. First of all, they are easier to repair. I can do almost nothing myself to my few years old Opel, because there are sensitive computers and electronics everywhere. Professional repairshops are absolutely necessary for these cars. But older cars have such simple technology that even complex repairs are possible without professional help, if you know what you are doing. Another thing is the design and look of older cars. Most of them have more character and look more personal than new cars, which greatly resemble each other, because they are designed using completely similar wind tunnel tests and computer programs. Of course modern cars have many advantages over the older designs, I don't deny that. But not everything new is better than old. -
What Side Do You Fly For and Why?

I fly for all sides. Lately I've spent most of my time flying a British two-seater career. This pilot has lived a long time already and may become something really special, if the gods of war allow it. -

A beautiful car, but definitely needs a lot of work to restore it to its former glory. But that's the whole point, I suppose. -
I believe "overkill" is the best word to describe your system, Morris.
-
For more realistic mission types, I warmly recommend Bletchley's mods for OFF P3. Among other things, they change the number of aircraft assigned to missions, so that for example if you're flying as a German two-seater pilot, you'll be flying alone more often than in flights of four or more machines.
-
Makes sense, especially for two-seaters doing artillery fire direction.

A flight sim fast! Now that's a cruel and unusual punishment if there ever was one! Agreed about the OFF community. Definitely a rare collection of gentlemen we have here.

I've noticed the dates of various battles and operations are not always that exact in the campaign manager. Of course it's not always so easy to accurately determine when some of those battles, often lasting for months, exactly ended, but maybe the dates for the biggest and most important ones could be adjusted in P4, at least the start dates, like July 1st 1916 for the Somme?

Training Field - P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS!

Looks great, but then I didn't expect anything but great from you guys. -
Maybe it's just me, but the trenches I encounter have a rather nasty habit of trying to machine-gun me and my observer.

OT - New Pilot asking for help!
Hasse Wind replied to Mafiozo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
In short, WW1 armies and battlefields were far too big for the methods of command and control that had been in use for centuries and had been adequate for the task until the late 19th century. -
Hey, I'm flying a British campaign in July 1916. Contact patrols are definitely not high altitude, so I try to stay quite low, 1000 feet or so. As to time spend, I don't have any strict guidelines for that. Sometimes I stay there longer, especially if something interesting happens, sometimes I only do the obligatory maneuvers and then head back home.

Albatross experts needed.
Hasse Wind replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
What a boring item. I'd have been so happy if JFM had confirmed that it was indeed a chain for a bottle opener. -
I don't have anything to add to that, except that those bloody things also spread diseases, and not just harmless diseases, but really dangerous ones like Lyme borreliosis. Mother Nature has all kinds of strange things inhabiting this little planet.

OT - New Pilot asking for help!
Hasse Wind replied to Mafiozo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It should be remembered that of the European great powers, only Britain relied on a volunteer army in the years preceding WW1. All the other great powers had compulsory military service for their citizens, which usually lasted at least two years, or even three. When war broke out in 1914, these countries could quickly mobilize millions of adequately trained reservists into mass armies, something that wouldn't be possible for the majority of western countries in our day. Britain quickly ran into manpower problems, because the highly trained professional army of 1914 was simply too small for a major European war. So the other great powers had a definite advantage in that they could suffer heavy losses in a short period of time and still find plenty of reservists among their population to fill in the gaps in the ranks.
