XP Crashes after recent updates
Hasse Wind replied to Cameljockey's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No problems here, but there are so many things that can go wrong with various harware and software combinations that it doesn't mean your problems couldn't be related to some recent updates. Sometimes really bad things can happen with new software, like the graphics drivers that Nvidia released some time ago and which ended up physically damaging some people's graphics cards. -
How many Bombers do I escort? A Search Picture
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oh yes, I wouldn't have seen them without enlargening (?) the picture. Their basic colour seems to be the same as FA(A) 250's though. Some DFW squadrons have completely different camos. -

Five. But they don't seem to be from FA(A) 250, unfortunately. -

Vickers Machine Gun vs a Tree

Hey, don't diss the Romans. They kicked almost everybody's ass back then. It wasn't their fault those brilliant generals of the late 19th and early 20th century thought there's nothing better than marching in columns and lines against quick firing rifles and machine guns and field artillery. They did learn, eventually (infiltration tactics and all that) but the learning process cost the lives of so many people... -
Good point, Widowmaker. And like men, the horses and mules had to suffer terribly in that brutal war. Perhaps even more so, because they had no idea what was going on. (But that must have been true with many men also - it can't have been all that clear all the time just what the hell the generals and politicians who started the whole mess were thinking and expecting from their subordinates!) Horses were extremely important for the majority of armies even in WW2. Only the British and American armies were completely motorized, the others kept using horses in addition to trucks throughout the war. Even the Germans and Soviets, who we always see in propaganda films charging forward with almost nothing but tanks and APCs. In reality, most of their troops marched on foot just like their ancestors in countless earlier wars.

Didn't know that. I learn something new here every day. Thanks, Rugbyfan. -
World War One in Colour - "Blood in the Air"
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Von Paulus, thanks for the link. I saw a documentary series about Albert Kahn's colour photographs last year. Sometimes, but not too often, something good like that is shown on TV. The French were the pioneers of colour photography (and photography in general), so if you see a colour pic from WW1, it's most likely taken by them. And those autochromes have fantastic colours. -
World War One in Colour - "Blood in the Air"
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I have this series on DVD. They did a good job at colouring the old film with the help of modern technology. Too bad real colour photographs of WW1 era are so extremely rare. Black and white just isn't the same as looking at colours, no matter how good and clear the pic is otherwise. -
Pick your Plane and make your Mod
Hasse Wind replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I'm sure most of the visibility problems in flight sims don't exist in real aircraft, or at least are nowhere near as bad as in the simulated cockpits. Looking at your monitor is just not the same thing as sitting in a real cockpit. One field modification I'd like to try is adding one extra MG to the Brisfit, not for the observer (he has more than enough firepower already!) but for the pilot. That would make the plane even more deadlier! -
Where is the N.28's gunsight?
Hasse Wind replied to Pike Bishop's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Not all of those crates have a gunsight. You can just as easily aim with your tracer bullets - in fact it's usually faster to do so in the midst of battle. -
Does the Pilot move his head?
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Take the Be2c for a flight and you'll see how your observer in front of you turns his head to left and right, depending on your plane's movements. So it makes sense that that's included in other planes as well. -
I hope it's nothing serious. Thanks for all the hard work, Siggi. We appreciate it a lot.

And Germans had been building railways since the 1830s, so it didn't happen overnight. Railways were the lifelines of WW1 armies. Cars were few and unreliable, so almost everything was transported by train. Nice find, Olham. Old maps are interesting, and often true masterpieces made entirely by hand, without any help from computers etc.

That must have been an exciting battle. And I really like your skin for that Alb. Red suits well both Ferraris and Albatrosses. (By the way, did you know that Ferrari got their horse emblem from the leading Italian WW1 ace, Francesco Baracca, who had it painted on his plane as his personal emblem?)

Dev's - How's about a P4 Bone?
Hasse Wind replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
And wouldn't it be so cool to hear "HEADSHOT!" when you hit your target accurately? -
Good show, Duce! The Brisfits are tough bastards, I've lost quite a few planes fighting them. (And I'm currently flying one in a British campaign - it rocks.) Sometimes all it takes is a few bullets, no matter how tough your opponent is. And sometimes you literally fill your target with bullets and still it refuses to fall. I've seen this with SPADs many times.

Dev's - How's about a P4 Bone?
Hasse Wind replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
OvS, have you been reading the prophecies of Nostradamus? I hope this line means P4 will have the Eastern Front: The sunrise in the eastern sky will be brighter, with more bands of colors. But whatever that and the others mean, I have no doubts that P4 will be great. And it will have all the missing 2-seaters we've been complaining about. And maybe even a Snipe. -
Wingnut Wings' Albatros D.Va - a Masterpiece
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
This is one of the reasons why I gave up modelling. You spend hours working on the model and then when it's finally finished, you feel satisfied and proud of your work. And then you see a picture of a true masterpiece, made by some model builder Rembrandt, and realize how bad your work really is. -
Albatros under the looking glass
Hasse Wind replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks HPW - those numbers show very nicely what we're talking about in this thread. And they aren't just numbers; you can easily feel the difference between the D.II and D.III in the game. A short flight in QC will show it quite clearly. But fortunately the devs are looking into it, so I'm sure in P4 we'll see a much improved Albatros D.III and D.V and not the clumsy flying boats they are now. -

OT All 56 British Airports Closed
Hasse Wind replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I live straight under that cloud (like quite a few other people in Northern Europe). The ash is supposed to stay high and not come down, but it's been rainy and I wouldn't be surprised if some of it actually does come down. All air traffic has been cancelled. -

Thanks for listening to our suggestions. It's good to know many things will be improved in P4.
