  1. Cinemaware's Wings!

I use a Competition Pro joystick for retro gaming. They are still being made. Just plug and play (USB), no drivers required.
  2. OT A Busy (and fun) August

    Have fun!
  3. Cinemaware's Wings!

I sometimes regret getting rid of all of my old computers, but I didn't and don't have room for all of them. Modern emulators are great and very useful, but it's not the same as playing the games in their original environment. Of course most of those old games are crap these days, but there were some true classics among them that are still fun to play.
  4. Correct "Brayelle" Location

Depending on the scale, some of those maps in the collection can be very accurate, showing the locations of individual enemy machine gun nests and bunkers and huts. Obviously such maps were meant for the ground forces and not pilots. It would be great to find a collection of maps for pilots, both Entente and Central Powers.
  5. Cinemaware's Wings!

Cinemaware seems to come and go every few years. This is not the first time the company has come back. I don't know if they are the same people who made those Amiga classics twenty years ago.
  6. Yes, it definitely found a good home with you, Lou. A very nice medal. A Knight class, if I'm not mistaken. But JFM is right - life moves forward. WW1 is ancient history now, because a century is such a long time for us human beings. That's just how things are, and always have been. It's always been a very small minority of people who try to remember and study such things decades and centuries after the events took place.
  7. In Finland, military chaplains are known as piruntorjuntaupseeri, which means anti-devil officer.
  8. OT: Crazy weather in Newcastle!

I've given up on this summer. Nothing but rain, rain, rain! We might just as well start growing rice, because the fields look like small lakes. Summer is so short up here in the north that it really sucks when the weather is terrible all the time. Well, at least the transition to autumn rains will be pretty smooth this year.
  9. OT Thunderbird Email

Damn, it really sounds like Windows 8 is something that should be avoided like the plague.
  10. Preview Movie No. 3 out now!

Exactly. But it's only possible when the sim is built to really allow it. A Terminator mode for all AI pilots does a pretty good job of making realistic flying by the player almost impossible to achieve in practice. I hope this will be different in WOFF. If somebody wants to fly in Terminator mode and shoot down 20 opponents in five hours before dying himself, I have no problem with it. But the sim should also allow people who want to have a more realistic WW1 experience to fly in a more peaceful way and not be forced to fight to the last man and bullet in each and every sortie. This very much depends on the AI. If WOFF can do this well, it will be the best sim ever released.
  11. For some reason, they made that kind of field modification to the altimeter. Usually they were inside the cockpit, and not attached to the upper wing. I don't know why they did it in this case.
  12. Albatros first flight in Florida

Wow! It really looks like the Albatros is very easy to handle. Love the engine sound.
  13. Jasta 19 Duty Board

Very interesting! It looks like they didn't have data from altitudes higher than 1500 - 2000 metres. That guy on the right had his head on the wrong spot, blocking the view.
  14. It won't block the vision too much at that location, even though it's not the place where you typically had such instruments, as far as I know. I'd rather fly an aircraft with an altimeter than without. I'm sure many WW1 pilots felt the same way.
  15. I hope we'll have more German altimetres in WOFF. In P3, most of the German fighters lack them.
  16. Quiet Amiens?

I've noticed that in 1918 the only sector of the front that is not busy all the time for most of the year is Alsace. And even there you have more activity than in previous years. It'll be interesting to see how things work in WOFF.
  17. Any news of sandbagger?

    Speedy recovery!
  18. Good to hear you're recovering. Sounds like you had it very bad for a while. Like Lou said, the OFF community is still here, and we have no intention of leaving.
  19. Poor Pfalz, missing a few parts here and there. A great pic!
  20. OT: Crazy weather in Newcastle!

They should release WOFF so that we'd have something else to talk about.
  21. OT: Fixing Lunch

Rednecks can be found all over the planet. I'm sure some Norwegian subspecies are called trolls.
  22. OT: Fixing Lunch

Well, there's certainly plenty of living space for undiscovered species in North America. And a big primate like the bigfoot would need plenty of space to survive and maintain a sufficient breeding population.
  23. OT: Fixing Lunch

Please let us know if your mother shoots a bigfoot.
  24. OT: Crazy weather in Newcastle!

Gentlemen, no global warming discussion in this thread, please. Nothing good ever comes out of it.
