GroundHogs apparently HATE WWI planes.
Test Pilot replied to zoomzoom's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well I wouldnt put it past a groundhog. They are pretty "tolerant" of people being nearby and if they get pissed, they may in fact charge (as the video showed). Im always afraid when fishing on a bank of a river that a groundhog will just come up and bite. Often you'll hear a rattling in the grass and see a groundhog come out lumbering towards you, completely indifferent to your pressence, and probably kind of agitated. Unless of course they all have rabies! (or the black death like their cousins the prairie dogs often have.....) -
Application data is a hidden folder so you'll need to enable hidden folders to see it. In Vista, go to: local disk>users>username>appData you then need to go to the roaming subfolder before continuing with the address as Homeboy showed for XP.

Even if the fuel is pressurized in such a way to be fed when inverted or pulling negative g's, the engine probably would be starved of oil very quickly and could only sustain that for a few seconds. But certainly within those few seconds it wouldnt hurt the engine and having a continuously fed engine with fuel would indeed be an advantage. What sort of ideas for a scenery pack are there??? -
Im unable to get my trackIR presets (F9, F12, etc) to stay mapped to my joystick.... Im assuming it is because I unplug the AC adapter from the joystick when not in use because it heats up quite a bit with power plugged. Any ideas as to how to keep from having to reprogram everytime?

Thanks guys. Ill be giving this a try soon.

Suggested Graphics Settings
Test Pilot replied to CaptSopwith's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Use nhancer and see if you can crank up the AA and AF since the game is more CPU dependent than GPU. Modern CPUs still are stretched by the flight sim engine but usually a modern GPU has a lot of headroom relatively. Im running a 2.2ghz quad and a 9800gtx+ and have my settings at 5 except for terrain and scenery at 2. But my AA is set at 16xS and the AF is at 4x. I for one prefer to have the clouds and effects maxed out while "sacrificing" a bit on the terrain. Backing off the scenery and terrain will thus help smooth it out while letting you use higher settings for the other stuff. Also, be sure to lock the frame rates to something like 20-30 to help smooth things out if that's a concern. -
Dont get your hopes up on Google's. It's based on linux (probably meaning it is linux) and so it would be hardly any better than Ubuntu (which is actually quite good except for Flash player support and not much for 3d games). If you want to try something new in the meantime that isnt Windows and is free though, try Ubuntu.

Can you find out what processor you have and its name/type? Based on the fact that you said it was a quad core and is fairly new, it probably is... 64bit allows up to 17 billion gigs of RAM (current Vista limits are 128 so 7 probably the same, though these can increase over time at MS's whim...). 32bit can only handle a theoretical max of 4 gigs (RAM capacity doubles with each increase of a single bit). 64bit can process some math processes a bit faster (probably not noticeable though). 64bit are also more secure in theory (though in time they wont be any more secure than 32bit as people begin to adapt to 64bit apps. Plus windows 64bit is really a cross between 32bit and 64bit so a 32bit program can run on it as well so I doubt security is really an advantage). Mainly the advantage is in the extra RAM they can handle.

Id say go for 64bit. Drivers arent as scarce as some say, at least not now. Plus drivers are more and more common for 64bit. On the otherhand, it is a major concern to be sure hardware works so of course youd want to be sure there are first. Graphics cards will run fine in 64 as well as track IR. What joystick do you have? Vista/7 will likely find the drivers for your joysticks without you having to install another set of drivers to get them running. In fact, it is rare in general to not have the OS find drivers and install them for you. TrackIR wasnt automatic, but loading the drivers off the disc/download worked fine (as long as the TrackIR USB wasnt plugged in at the time!). Overall, I havent had any problems finding drivers for 64bit, even a year ago. Plus, newer devices you add will almost certainly be available with 64bit. And if you do get 64bit, and your MOBO can handle it, treat yourself to some extra RAM too!

The thing with Vista (and by extension Windows 7) is that you need modern hardware. But once you got that, it blows XP away in useability. Granted XP might run better on the same hardware, but then again windows 98 in theory would run far better than XP as well. Vista and 7 need a certain amount of RAM but thats just because there is more to the OS. Holding it against the OS for needing more RAM is like holding it against flight simulator x cause it needs more RAM than did flight sim 4. That being said, the memory management of these OS's is superb and handles itself far better than XP. The start menu search in Vista and 7 is for my money worth the upgrade alone. Navigation through folders is much better too over XP in Vista and 7 thanks to the carrots feature in Windows Explorer. Plus the OS DVD has a restore feature where you can boot from the disc (sort of a Live session for the boot process) and repair the boot process on the harddrive if it becomes corrupted ever (a fairly "common" occurrence with XP to be honest). And now the new taskbar in 7 is pretty darn useful too! But get the 64 bit version. A quad core is modern enough to handle that processor and the drivers out for Vista 64 will almost certainly run with Win 7. But the question is whether itd be worth it to upgrade. Depends on how you use an OS and your computer. If it's solely to run OFF, then youre probably just fne with XP. But if you like to do a bit more, then Id say take the plunge into 7!

Well the FAQ has saved me plenty of times! :) -
Perhaps you had wind on. Supposedly while wind affects your plane, it doesnt to the AI. Try disabling it and see if it helps. It is possibly the last major quirk with CFS3 that hasnt been addressed yet. (But after the last mini update with the cloud fix, it seems anything is possible! And there is the no wind option anyways so not too bad!)

Game Resolution Changing?
Test Pilot replied to MudMarine's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Have you set up the resolution in the CFSCONFIG file via the workshop? If not, here is a guide: 1.1) Installation Settings and Graphics 1) When OFF runs for the first time the CFS3 configuration application is run automatically (CFSCONFIG.exe) too from the "CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields" install folder . This allows users to set up how the sim will run, plus things like the screen resolution and graphics settings such as AA (Anti-Aliasing for smoother edges). If you miss this opportunity on first run you can always set up and access all CFS3 configurations by going to Workshops from the main menu and pressing the " Graphics Config " button to bring up CFS3 Config tool: (By the way if you do not have this button in Workshop but instead have a "CFS3Config" button then you need to UPDATE to V1.30 first! See downloads page for current update available). 2) To set the desired screen resolution that you will play CFS3 at, (i.e. in-game screen size), use the CFS3 Configuration Window as follows: Select File, Change Display Options And set up what you require Finally - Click OK. NOTE OFF usually will perform BETTER if you play at the maximum resolution your monitor supports! By the way you can set up Anti-Aliasing from that screen too see Q22 for more info. Again for some people setting up AA on their display driver /graphic card settings can sometimes actually increase performance! Also note if you ever update your video card driver, you will need to re run Graphics Config, to accept the new video driver for OFF (just as you do in vanilla CFS3). 3) Now set up your Detail Sliders in the CFS3 Configuration Window proceed as follows: Select File, Custom Settings, and OK the warning. You will be presented with 5 sliders and an overall Graphic detail slider that control various detail aspects of OFF in run time: Aircraft Detail: Low and Medium PCs select 4 Good PCs select 5 Terrain Detail: Low PCs 1 or 2, Medium PCs select 3 Good PCs select 4 (it is recommended that you do *NOT* use 5 for Terrain even for the very highest speed PCs, performance and visual quality may suffer later) Scenery Detail: Low PCs 1 or 2 Medium PCs select 3 Good PCs select 4 (and maybe if 4 works fine, possibly 5). Effects Detail: Low and Medium PCs select 4 Good PCs select 5 Cloud Quality: Low PCs select 1 to 3 Medium PCs select 4 Good PCs select 5 Click OK when done. To Save all these settings you must choose File, Exit, do NOT click the [X] box ! Your display settings will be saved, but if you go back later, it will appear that Anti-Aliasing was not saved (it is but CFSConfig does not show it correctly, CFS3 bug). For further info on recommended slider settings please also see "System Requirements" page from the main page) Note sliders in OFF are +2 in quality over CFS3 sliders ("3" in OFF = "5" in CFS3!) so please don't choose too high settings. -
