I say "software" because I'm still using my original TIR3 Pro camera and Vector clip. It's worked fine so far, but I'm having a problem now that I've had to switch to the TIR5 drivers for WOFF. The issue is: Previous drivers would always keep my ingame head's attitude as the reference for any subsequent movements whereas the TIR5 software seems to use the aircraft as its reference regardless where I'm looking. So if I'm looking to my left and want to look over the side of the aircraft I used to lean foward (as I would if I were looking out the window of my car). But now that simply moves my view toward the nose of the aircraft. To lean my view over the side I have to move my head to the left, which would be like leaning back into the seat in real life. Likewise, when looking to the right rear the software used to compensate for that and reverse the direction of any lean. That is, if I then wanted to lean to the aircraft's right I would lean my head to its left (since they're reversed) and be looking down the right side of the fuselage. Since upgrading (?) to the TIR5 software this results in moving my view across the aircraft to its left side. This situation has made playing any Track IR-enhanced game much less enjoyable (since it's a TIR5 problem), to the point that I rarely do any longer. I have the latest drivers and I've posted this on their forum, as had someone else before, without succcess. I was hoping someone here might have a solution. Or is this possibly because I'm using old hardware with new software and it doesn't happen if the player is using the TIR 5 camera and clip. I really don't want to have to spend another $150-$200 to start enjoying WOFF.

Just a guess, but could it have been someone mistakenly combining his three with his son's 13 1/2 (rounded down to 13?) because of the names being the same? Or is that just a coincidence? When does the 16 first show up?

That was it, streakeagle, thanx. I remember looking at it and wondering what it did. I feel like a right dumbass.

Certainly, with no multiplayer in WOFF there will be no accusations of bringing hacked planes into a server for an unfair advantage. But the potential for fragmentation still exists, IMO, because someone flying fm A may describe an exploit in the Reports from the Front thread and someone who swears that fm B is "more accurate" will challenge it as being unrealistic and the flame war will begin. It hasn't happened yet, and hopefully it won't but it doesn't take much, sometimes. We shall see. To all those who like to tinker with fm's and dm's, do so. Some will feel you've nailed it and others will wonder what you were thinking. But if the results please you, then your time was well spent.

Darn!! I was going to guess that Bolle left his aircraft out in the sun too long and it bleached the color out.

To gavagai: My personal belief is that one of the things that hurt Red Baron was all the different fm/dm modifications that were created to "make it historically accurate". The forum often degenerated into harsh comments over 'this plane is porked' and 'that plane is nowhere near agile or fast enough' complaints and all kinds of accusations that could only be speculation on the part of anyone posting them because none of us has ever actually flown any of these planes in the real world (if you have, I apologize for the incorrect assumption). At best, a handful of people now alive have flown reproductions which themselves may or may not behave as did the originals due to improvements in engine manufacture, materials and airworthiness and safety inspections that I doubt many of the originals would pass. To say that any built-from-numbers flight model is correct invites the question "how much of those numbers is propaganda?" Don't forget, Sherman crews were told that their tanks were a match for anything the Germans had. And the MG-42 was downplayed in Ameican training films as its bark being worse than its bite. To think that either side would have been completely honest in reporting the performance of their aircraft or that of the enemy (or other friendly nations and manufacturers for that matter) is, at best, naive, IMO. And besides the 'national pride' or 'aircrew morale' aspect, there were matters of big-money government contracts to take into account. Certainly no one would lie for that, would they? The best you can say is that this is how you think it should be. If you want to do that, by all means, do so. If others agree with your assessment, then they have every right to use your models instead of what comes in the game. But the first thing you know there will be many variations of WOFF, and likely...discussions...over which one is 'right'. This is why I, for one, won't be trying any fm/dm revisions that don't come from, or at least have the blessing of, OBD. Personally, the only WWI sim I found whose flight models were probably close to accurate was Richtofen's Skies. It was hard as Hell to fly any of the rotary-powered aircraft without constant input and close attention, with takeoffs and landings being damned near impossible. Which is why I saw many, many people log on, enter the server, and then leave after complaining about not being able to get into the air, likely never to return. Everything else has been far too easy.

How good is WOFF's geography...?
von Baur replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Interestingly (and I bring this up at the risk of being branded as a complete heretic), I had flown the same route in OFF and found that the Somme does flow through Amiens, just a short flight south of Bertangles West, easily found by following the Amiens-Doullens road just east of the airfield (some may remember a screenshot of the road sign just off the field that I posted years ago). And the area around Douai/Lens/etc matched up remarkably well with Rabu's authentic British maps right down to roads and rail lines. And although there were some discrenpancies, even several smaller towns and villages were pretty accurately placed. It's a shame, because improvements to the in-game map were talked up in the build up to WOFF. I've not had the opportunity to examine WOFF closely on this respect yet because I'm having some trouble with the TIR5 software that makes flying somewhat less than fun. As Hauksbee said, "...we have to take the Sim as we find it." -
It might be something unique to your controller, HD. I have a Logitech G940 and was able to assign mixture to one of the throttle wheels, no problem.
-
It's in with the axis assignments on the right-hand side, not the button assignments on the left, HD. If you're still having trouble I'll check exactly saturday, as I won't be home again until then.

Certainly, "FLAK" was a common term on the German side. I think the question is, since Jim was warned about enemy flak, was it a common term among the British or French forces? "Archie" wouldn't have appeared in official reports, either. It was a slang term, a way of laughing at what could kill them without a chance to fight back. For those who don't know, (a small number, I'm sure), it came from a line of a song, popular at the time, the refrain of which was "Archibald? Certainly not." Some unknown RFC pilot, when asked if the AA frightened him, responded with that and it stuck.

They still call it "NASCAR", don't they? Ain't nothin' stock about those babies.

I've got an ATI 6850 with a 1GB memory running solo (Crossfiring two didn't give me any improvement in OFF so I don't expect any in WOFF...also I read somewhere else that Crossfire and SLI don't double the memory because the two cards are running parallel...don't know how true that is, just wish I'd heard it before I ponied up for the second card) and 16GB of RAM and I'm getting upper 20's on the ground and 45-50 fps in the air with a couple dozen planes and all sliders on 5. *whew, my high school English teacher would probably fail me with that run-on sentence. But considering she was in her 60's when I was in high school over 40 years ago, I doubt she'll see it.

This is a holdover from CFS3, which for some unknown reason seems to think that throttles and rudder pedals control anything but what you would think. The good news is that it's simple to get the game to go along with your controllers, it just takes a little work. The other good news is, if you've got an axis available, you can even set your mixture to a dial/slider, thus negating the need to bump it up and down by 10% at a time. As Olham said, go into "Remap keys/controllers" in the worksohop and look for controller axes (on the right side of the window).

I found the files in the WOFF/WOFFScenery/ViewUI/Default and .../Hardcore folders but making the modifications I'd used in OFF doesn't have an effect. I even tried moving the TAC location ingame to see which file changed and neither did, so I'm kinda stumped. Is there anothe file somewhere else? I'm using Windows7 Professional 64-bit.

Thanx, Red. I recently made the move to SSD and forgot to click "show hidden files and folders".

Funny. But I'll believe it when pigs... ok, I believe it. This reminds me of the example of the difference between being "invested" in something and being "committed" to it. You enjoy a breakfast of bacon and eggs. The chicken is "invested" in that meal. But the pig is "committed" to it.

With all due respect to my learned colleague (I've always wanted to say that), current technology that you're aware of.

Very nice.

Anybody can land on the sun at night, especially in his hemisphere's winter...it's longer than twelve hours. If you want to prove you're good land on it during a solar eclipse. A partial eclipse would be even more tricky.

(pardon the terrible phony Irish accent...it makes it sound better) Me darlin' sainted mither, it was, who taught me that two wrongs don't make a right. Me high school drivin' instructor, it was, who taught me that three lefts do.

That goes without saying.

I hadn't heard of Schell's passing. That's very sad. As for Hoffman, I feel for his family, not so much for him. After making much of his drug addiction and overcoming it, he was found with a needle in his arm and heroin in his apartment. Stupidity, thy name is "addict". Don't whine at me about "how difficult it is". I've seen it. My father passed away in 1990 at 66 years old because his lungs (and whatever else) had been ravaged by his addiction to cigarettes. He never got to meet my only child, born 15 mmonths later, and my son never got to meet his grandfather. My wife of 20 years died on Valentine's Day in 2011, only 50 years old and only 6 weeks after our son had entered the Army. She had various health issues but the biggest contributor was an addiction to the same drug that killed my father, her father and her mother. This has haunted him and hurt me for three years now and will hurt both of us for the rest of our lives. I hurt eevry time I think of how she apparently loved cigarettes more than she loved us. Too many people have successfully beaten addiction to whatever substance you want to name. If they can do it, anyone can. I know it's not easy. But at the same time,it is. As easy as Nancy Reagan said 40-some years ago. "Just say no."

OFFICIAL WOFF RELEASE DAY WINNER? Who won, please?
von Baur replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Read the whole thing, Jim. Adger was the only one who guessed a "number of days" as specifically stated in the rules. Only one legitimate guess was made, therefore there can be only one winner. Second and third place prizes need not be awarded. The contest also gave a date by which all guesses must be made. There were a lot of people who came close (if giving a date is considered acceptable) but posted after that date, when the thread was revisited. Take a look: http://combatace.com/topic/78648-official-woff-game-day-pool-ca/ -
OFFICIAL WOFF RELEASE DAY WINNER? Who won, please?
von Baur replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Only one winner, by strict definition of the rules, I'm afraid. Adger was the only one who guessed a number of days. The rest of us, myself included, guessed a date. Of course the number of days could be calculated from those dates, but still...
