  1. Have you ever seen a Train?

To explain to you Olham, Dej is now over anoraking me
  2. Have you ever seen a Train?

Olham, an 'anorak' in English usage comes from the train spotters who used to wear them. Nowadays it means someone who knows everything about a certain subject down to the last detail and tells you all about it. I was (Ahem) being ironic.
  3. If any newbie needs a copy of the CSF3 DVD I would be happy to send them one for free. We can't as a community (are we a community?) let people be put off OFF because they can't buy CSF3. Off is too valuable. And if I am breaking copyright law or something I don't think that sort of stuff works here in the third world.
  4. Have you ever seen a Train?

Funny sort of train, has the normal German wind deflectors but I don't think any country ever made a 4-6-0. I think they forgot the back bogie wheels. I did see a train once in OFF going across the airfield but that was a bug and they fixed it. Pity, it made taking off quite fun The train in the picture also seems to be missing its tender for coal and water etc. And the second carriage doesn't seem to be joined in any way to the first. What is German for an 'anorak'
  5. Wait to buy Ph4 or buy Ph3 ?

I got the CD for OFF v3.1 in the first place. But all the others - 3.2 Super patch, 3.2g mini patch, Hitr and Hitr 4.6 have been downloads. I instantly copy them to a DVD and keep it with the original so that when (not if) I have to reinstall OFF I have all the disks. Had to do it all over again yesterday because of some vague problem with an xml file.
  6. TrackIR setup instructions

I have a TrackiR 3 (thanks Winder ) and am using version 4 software - I don't think the v5 software will work. The Skype is latest version. OS is W7 64. It's not a problem to not have Skype working when I am using OFF but I just have to remember to switch it off before starting TrackiR and OFF
  7. New aircraft at hendon

According to Wiki most pilots didn't like the upward-firing Lewis guns and removed them. Some kept them for attacking bombers at night from below. The forerunner of 'Schräge Musik' of WWII?
  8. I totally agree with RAF_louvert, you only have to read what some of the pilots wrote at the time to agree that they were tired of it rather like the PBI who did not expect to live through the war.
  9. TrackIR setup instructions

I nearly went mad trying to get my TrackIr setup to work last night. It worked perfectly fine the previous time, but all I could get was a view of the ground underneath the aircraft when in OFF. The tracking in TrackIR seemed to work ok. After just about throwing the whole lot out of the window I switched off Skype and everything worked fine. So now I know. Skype and OFF don't mix.
  10. And 'Screwball' Beurling, possibly the greatest ever marksman was killed flying a Czech-built Me109 to Israel. He wasn't Jewish, he was just in it for the fight I think. A lot of fighter pilots had difficulties settling down after WWII.
  11. "Disposable" Pilot names that you use

mayor of Houston, Texas (I think) had two daughters. One called Ima and one called Ura. The surname was Pigg. They kept their names
  12. True story... I knew a guy who was leaving SA to go back to the UK. Part of the procedure is to get a signed clearance from the Income Tax to say you are paid up to date. He had to cancel his flight because his income tax guy was killed by a bullet while watching a Rugby match at Ellis Park in Joburg. It turned out the bullet came from a pistol fired upwards from a block of flats quite a way away. Strangely enough I now work with an HR guy who found out who did it. I can't remember what the courts did. One in a million....
  13. I have just re-read "Goodbye to All That" by Robert Graves. When he was wounded for the first time his revolver was stolen (most likely by the RAMC 'Rob all my Comrades') and he thought of buying another one. But he decided to carry a rifle in future so as not to look like an officer to a sniper.
  14. I have to be very careful because when the aircraft comes out of warp it seems to be in a vertical dive which soon exceeds the aircraft max speed and causes damage. How do I avoid this problem? I don't remember having this problem when I ran OFF on my old pooter
  15. "Disposable" Pilot names that you use

And of course the famous Scots pilots Ben Dover and Phil McCavity. Their aeroplanes tend to fly backwards which makes it a bit difficult
  16. I come out of warp in a vertical dive

I tried 'auto trim' because the normal elevator trims didn't seem to work. Now, the question is, did the elevator trim commands not work because historically my aircraft (BE2 - I believe in starting at the bottom and it is at least stable) did not have any trim tabs? I must say that doing 150+ mph in a BE2c dive bomber is not good for the nerves And I DID have this problem before - its just that my memory isn't what it was My new(ish) pooter AMD 965 quad @ 3.8 Ghz together with W7 64 my new Club 3D 6450 graphics card gives me 60 fps all the time with settings suggested by Olham. I don't know what half of it means but it seems to work fine. Thanks Olham (again) My old ASUS 46xx Card used to make a noise like a 707 - the new card has no fan at all and works fine. It was also half the price!
  17. Help....2 error messages

I get exactly the same error messages. Maybe I assumed the other patches (1.32 and 1.32g) were in HiTR. How can I save my pilot if I have to reinstall?
  18. The Morane is one of the few aircraft whose name carries on. All aircraft with that wing arrangement are called 'parasol' - the Morane was one of the first. And WHAT is that strange boxy thing in the last photo? Or are there three of them?
  19. Many of them were destroyed in landing accidents - they tended to tip on the nose. Maybe a design fault putting the C of G too far forward. If they appear in OFF I am definitely going to drop a bomb on Westminster and get rid of a few pollys
  20. Apparently they are Mk IV's with Griffon engines - rated as the best Spitfire of all by Geoffrey Quill and Eric Brown. Certainly a very pretty aircraft.
  21. I tend to uninstall M$ stuff that comes with Windoze like Internet Exploder. I uninstalled Windoze Media Player as I use other stuff like AVS and Nero. But OFF needs it. I'll just make sure that that is the only place it is used.
  22. And now it all works and I am listening to that magnificent entry music. Maybe prospective users should be warned that Windoze Media Player is essential to run OFF. So now I am off to install all the patches and the Hat in the Ring extension and then I will be awayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
  23. Re-installed Windoze Media Player and now OFF gives a fatal error and suggests I reinstall again again again again again adiarnrafeeaggainagainrrraasgggaaaiiinnnn. ,,,,,,,,
  24. wmp.dll is Windoze Media Player. I got rid of that because I hate Bill Gates and everyone who sails in him ok so I downloaded it and put it in the System32 directory with no change to the error So I put it in the OBD directory and I get .... wait for it ..... "Unexplained error" (which is why I hate Bill Gates and his merry men in the first place So now what?
  25. Done that and it still doesn't work
