  1. Is there something I can switch on in OFF which will show me which of sometimes many airfields on the TAC display is my home field?
  2. aerodrome labels?

The last waypoint is not the home airfield, so I get no blue line and have to follow the map and hope for the best. Sometimes there are many airfields in the general area to choose from. Not a problem, really. I was just hoping there was something I'd missed. Thanks.
  3. When I go into workshop to set realism options the descriptions of the radio buttons are mostly half-shown and pretty unreadable. It looks as if the programmer has tried to put too much data on one screen. Is there any way I can make this screen more readable?
  4. Workshop almost unreadable

No - the thing to do is to leave the Windoze display setting alone and change the display setting in CFS3 config. I missed this at first as it is not obviously available. I suppose all you guys knew that anyway
  5. OT- F****** Idiots!..hahaha

Another Arab pilot story (true) Saudi Arabian Air Force English Electric Lightning F6 at end of runway. Pilot whacks the throttles to max reheat to take off. One engine catches fire. Pilot opens canopy undoes straps and legs it. Fire goes out, aircraft then rolls off down the runway into the barrier. It took about 2 years to fix it. The fixing notably not done by arabs. Even the arab pilots wouldn't fly an aircraft that had been worked on by their own countrymen.
  6. Flyboys

The most accurate flying film I have seen was 'The Battle of Britain'. Many of the aircraft were original, although the (Spanish) Me109s and He111s had Merlin engines. The flying aircraft all had 4-bladed propellors when the engines of that era had 3 blades. To get around this, they built glass-fibre ground models with 3-bladed props and lawn-mower engines. The real engine noises were put in later. Some humorist put notices in the cockpits telling the pilots not to attempt to take off. Many of the ground crew were real RAF guys seconded to the film. I knew one who was selected because he was one of the few people who could rig a Hurricane. He said they had great trouble not laughing when the lawn mowers started up
  7. Musical Score for OFF movie 11

Me too. It is somehow very evocative of the war and the early days of flight. Not as sad as Elgar's cello concerto, possibly a good thing. That music never fails to depress me for hours, even though I love it. One does not expect a 'game' to have decent music, and up to now I have not been surprised. I am most impressed with everything about OFF, especially after playing CFS3 for a few weeks while my DVD was wending its way over here.
  8. Workshop almost unreadable

Fixed! I upped the resolution to the max allowed 1090 x 1074 or suchlike, and the workshop now looks fine. Apparently OFF works better with higher screen resolutions anyway. The only downside is that I have to lower the resolution to see what is going on in Windoze.
  9. Werner Voss...some guy!

A truly great pilot - but in a way he was lucky to die the way he did. As a Jew, he would not have had a happy time later on.
  10. Workshop almost unreadable

I have just installed CFS3 and OFF on my work computer and the screens look perfect. The difference is that at work I have a Samsung 19" LCD and at home I have a MAG 14" CRT. I have been meaning to chuck the CRT out and get an LCD for a while anyway.
  11. Sideslips

Sorry, a bit of newbie to flight simulation and to OFF. The pilots of that era often referred to sideslips as a means to take off height without increasing speed as in a dive. Is this possible in the simulator?
  12. Sideslips

Thanks for all your comments - I will get my joystick back tomorrow and will have a go. They said it needed 'calibrating' and I am certain I tried that to no avail. Very nice video of the Piper Cub - brought back memories of one I serviced a couple of times back in 1976, though I never got to fly in it.
  13. Sideslips

Thanks guys for your wonderful help. You remind me of myself because I am a mod on two forums which have nothing to do with computers or flight simulators, but I do try to help the new guys. Unfortunately my 2 week old joystick now gives me no joy as the ailerons only work to the left but not much to the right so I have returned it to my supplier. The warranty thing could take ages. I don't really want to try OFF with only keyboard controls. Most of the time I crash anyway without any help from the enemy! I need to learn to fly first.....
  14. AVSIM Hacked!

I'm a newbie here but looked at this post. As someone who has been in IT since 1981 and has said numerous times to users "when did you last take a backup?; have you ever tried to restore from a backup?" etc. etc. Rule one of backups is to keep an off-site backup on removable media (in case the whole shebang goes up in smoke or gets flooded). Rule two is to take more than one backup. I have never lost any data either professionally or privately and there is no reason to ever do so. My wife didn't see the point in backups until her pooter was taken out by a virus :-( Now I don't even have to ask if she has done her daily backup to DVD :-)
  15. Hello from a CFS3 newbie - I have paid for OFF on the 4th April but it hasn't arrived yet. So I install CFS3 and have a go at it. My machine is an AMD 5200+ with ASUS M2N-SLI mob and ASUS 3450 (I think) graphics card. Can't be absolutely sure as that setup is at home and I am at work now. I get very bad jittering at the main page of CFS3 - the one that shows the pilot stretching and the selected plane and hangar in the background. When flying it is ok, though not wonderful. Can you tell me where to get the AMD dual processor patch? Does it put the cpu into single processor mode? Cheers Jim
