Righto - pretty much all sorted! Tried the recommended sound files and now the game is a lot clearer, but with none of the original sound issues I had faced. Camera was a bit weird - I had to set both min and max yaw to 360, and I need to be zoomed back, but the awful blind spot is now gone. I upped vertical to 115 and that feels a lot more natural as well. Thanks to your excellent explanation peter01, and a forum at thirdwire, I finally took the plunge and sorted the Aldis sight out on the SE5a - always hated flying it because of that sight, but am now making up for lost time. Cheers for the help sir:drinks:

Actually now 2012 is getting close a lot of the groups and people who have been yaking on about it, are starting to say we may have got the calendar confused and it may actually be 2024 instead. They don't say however if they mean our calender or the mayan one - which gives them some room to wriggle out of it when we get close to 2024...

Hey there! I had this problem, but cured it by setting the details one by one. I maxed the object and cockpit settings (as these are the only things you see long enough to matter), then set everything thing else to medium, except for ground objects to low, and the horizon distance to normal. After adding the ground/sky mods (but still using those settings) the game looked so good I never messed around with those settings since to track down which one was causing the loading problem. Give it a try and see if it helps. D.

Cheers for the heads up on the create missions - mad dogfighting fun from the getgo, but now in different aircraft than the spad :) Turns out it was the sound files I added, so have reverted to stock. Tbh their not bad sounds, just fancied something a little crisper. Now regards the cockpit.ini I take they are the ones I found in the .cat files using the sfp1e tool? If so when I have edited them do I need to add them to the objects folder or the actual aircraft folder, or do I somehow need to recompile the .cat? Sorry but I'm a bit n00b with all this - taken me 2 days of lurking here and at thirdwire forums to get this far. I'm fairly happy with basic config files but that's about my limit. Which means I will prolly buy FE2 and just go for the terrain mods, unless you could link me a few good forum posts about adding the extra's? Unless I can have FEG and FE2 installed at the same time - I currently use the landscape mods, sky and cloud mods, some extra aircraft and your flight models and still love playing this game as I'm not an out and out graphics junkie. Gameplay and fun are more deciding factors, which is why I fly FEG a lot more than RoF despite the obvious graphics differences. Thanks again for your help, you sir are a gentleman, D.

Well that's a deffo step up the ladder - you should see the look my better half gives me when I turn up with yet another book on military history... It's the look that says 'that had better be a good book because reading it will be the only thing your doing bed this weekend'.

Not being hardcore simmer, I could not justify the cost of pedals, however I have got by fairly well by using my cheapo thrustmaster steering wheel pedals in flight sims. Not exactly brilliant as they are obviously set quite high to simulate brake/accelerator, they are a definite step up compared to the twisty grip, especially when you just need a touch of correction - with the twisty I always ended up skewing all over the place, now I just dab down on the pedal and I'm lined up nicely. I think its a case of coordination - when dabbing the pedals you don't need to think about it as it just seems natural, however using the twisty you really need to think about what you are doing and monitor how much input you are using hence your reaction times slow down and you end up over compensating. Least that's how it feels to me.

The one thing that makes this update worth it, is the quick mission builder. Not only does it have a super slinky GUI - it is so incredibly easy to set up (a first from neoqb) and no need for any of their lacking or poorly translated documentation. Also in QMB the load times are much shorter than in campaign, mission or flynow. If you just fancy a quick ww1 themed skirmish then this mode is for you. Personally until they sort out a good campaign mode, this is the only mode I can see myself playing any time soon. Also they have removed the online all the time DRM. For campaigns you will still need to connect to the master server for them to update your stats. From my offline only play it is nice to know that my every flight is no longer being monitored by neoqb. Graphics wise, the new HDR options got turned off pretty damn quickly by myself, though the new rain effect is pretty impressive. Colours seem deeper now, and not as vibrant as before, but I like it - more of a gritty feel. That's all I have tested so far. However Nvidia users beware - a lot of players with nvidia cards have reported that the shimmering is back with a vengence.

Have you been spammed by neoqb to buy new planes?

oops - that's my western ignorance showing clearly. Next you will be telling that all their lead programmers are not named 'vlad', and that they don't all drink vodka for breakfast :P -

In reply to the original question neocube have not contacted me in any way about buying new planes. Even if they did, as they don't seem to listen to opinions of the players, it really would be a wasted exercise. Still at least my answer would be easy to translate into russian as it only consists of two words, the second of which is 'off'. As to the point about Russian software - certainly agree with that as far as video games go. My 'gaming' experience with s.t.a.l.k.e.r and its follow up, Men of war, Arma2 and now RoF have put me right off of buying anything from the 'other' side of the curtain ever again. It seems like the russians have no idea about variable skill levels - all of their games AI seems to be set to 'aimbot' straight out of the box...
