Yes, ditto, That was pretty cool flying a zeppelin. I'm pretty sure I wont' be starting a DH5 campaign anytime soon. I'd rather fly a bathtub.

"mainly because AI doesn't retreat. in neither AI." I must respectfully disagree, since I saw it happen last night. 2 Albatrosses that had been hit actually turned out of a fight and went towards the German side of the trenches. And, when they did, they flew straight and didn't maneuver except for losing altitude. I took it that they were damaged...since I dive for the lines when damaged. When a wingman attacked one of them, he did try to turn, but lost control and spun in...so he probably was damaged. I'm in the "not quite there yet but let's not go back to before" camp.

I've been looking around HiTR today and decided that it would be fun to fly in a US squadron...so started a pilot in the 94th. I cannot fly more than about 5 minutes and get a BSOD crash. So...tried enlisting another pilot in the 27th. Same result...black screen crash, have to reboot. The funny thing is that all my other pilots and campaigns seem to be working just fine. Anyone else having trouble? Thanks,

Yes, thanks OvS, Got it sorted last night by trial and error...I had some time on my hands. I did see the sticky, but since I'd not had any trouble in my Nupe or Albie campaigns up in Flanders, I assumed that my shiny new 260 GTX was crunching along just fine. It was only when I went to a sqd. down south that it happened. The issue of the wooded terrain in the Marne didn't occur to me, but makes perfect sense when pointed out. My terrain density was already on medium. Moving it to low didn't help but last night I figured out that I could get it to work with the scenery slider on 3 and terrain density set to medium. Sliders at 54352 seems to work pretty well now, and you're right - I don't notice a bit of difference in the detail. I especially like all the farmhouses scattered around the countryside, and the new railyards are great looking.

They apparently fly offensively pretty well too. I was astonished to see a flight of them dive into an attack on a flight of Strutters the other day. VERY steep dive, right through the middle of the formation with guns blazing. They didn't do much damage, but it was sure fun to watch.

AI scouts now behave like two seaters should
VonGuber replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I agree, and with Olhams' earlier post as well. I've flown several missions today in various planes to see what happens. Not QC missions, mind you, but in campaign mode. So far most of the AI looked pretty good. One fight vs Jasta 4 for example...loads of aces, they dropped a lot of our Nupes, but stayed, high, did the zoom and boom thing and then disengaged until they could get on another target...sort of like I'd do if I were them. The last fight was N28s v. DvAs, 4 against 6, at least 3 German aces. Americans downed 2, with my plane damaged and a wingman injured. Americans were able to get away from the combat and head for home, the Germans let them. I thought it was about right for a 15 minute fight... I also have thought that the aggressive behaviour of AI before was over the top. Perhaps some of the top aces could be more aggressive, but frankly I was getting tired of the fly-upside-down-and-make-90-degree-turns-while-diving-vertically-in-an-N17-behavior. When the AI gets 'scaled' to reasonable and proper skill levels, it will be great. On the upside, still a good update, IMO. It will be a GREAT update when fully tweaked, as we know it will be. not trying to , but wanted to provide some feedback. -
Post a Pic of your best dead or captured pilot

111 claims in a month?!?!?! That's like Frank Luke on meth or something....wow. No wonder - the odds were against him with numbers like that. -
Different coloured flak bursts
VonGuber replied to Stiffy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, I've been playing with HiTR today while trying to fix some pilot files. One of the first things I noticed was that Entente flak is now whitish, the Huns still being black. So, I think it's been updated with this add-on. -
I'm with Olham on this one. I don't think it's proper to say in a definitive way that there was no such thing as fuel management in the Great War. Armies have always had to manage resources, and I don't think it's a good idea to assume that all sides had so much fuel as to have the luxury of squandering it. I know the Kaiser's armies didn't. Logistics officers have in all times been misers, and it's possible to read first hand accounts from Roman legionaries who complained about their rations. Of course we should research it and find out the real answer, but to make the common historian's assumption that all earlier people were idiots is a bad idea. Even in WWI, supply officers and ground crews would have known that it's not necessary to carry 30 gallons of fuel for a 30 mile flight. Given soldier's tendency to stockpile things for the future (and my own military experience...) I'd say it's almost a certainty that fuel was managed. That's without even mentioning that aviators of the day were terrified of fires. That said, no, I don't have it somewhere in print yet... but I'll be looking. It's an interesting question. Please consider this as constructive criticism from a supporter.... Question: didn't many of the fuel systems on our birds require pressurization? If so, the 'extra fuel in case we get a hole' theory won't work.

I could fly a couple of missions, depending on the time.

Yep, that where the Blue Max's come from in Siggi's campaign. -
The "Opposite Campaign" Full DiD
VonGuber replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Olham, I'm fairly sure they were Jasta 11, as the planes all had some red on them but in different places. One had a red tail section, some with red wings, stripes etc... I did see one that was completely red except for blue elevators, but nothing that was only red. I may go back to that day and time with a different pilot and try to find them with labels on, just to see who they all were. -

Ok, I decided to give it a shot this afternoon. Signed on to RNAS-1, 1 June 1917. I hadn't tried a Tripe since sometime in P2...been a couple of years. I'm finding it whippy and hard to control, but I'm used to Albatrosses.... First thing I run into is a flock of guys in Albatrosses, with red paint all over them. 5 of them basically scattered and shot up the entire squadron. Wow... 2'd mission, ran into the same guys, but only 3 of them. Got some rounds into them, they shot back. My plane was hit. Interesting thing is, when I got hit, I was just over the trees and just at stall speed, so as I tried to turn away from the attack the plane stalled and flipped over on it's back, floating into the trees. I figured that was that... but no... the manager just advanced. Not even a hospital stay! I've not had that happen before while flying DiD. 3d mission featured those boys in the red planes again...about 8 of them. One of them ran into me in mid air, so that's the end of this pilot. -
Axgrinder's Mayhem tonight 8 edt
VonGuber replied to Axgrinder's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
Ah, darn. I have to be somewhere else. As I look at the calendar, this month is going to be tough to make many online sessions, but I'll try.... The good news is, however, that I'll be on a new DSL after Friday. That should simplify my hosting issues, so I'll be able to sort that out and be ready to roll early next week. -
On a closely related note, I'd be in for practicing flying as pairs in combat. That seems to be something we don't do much of in online games.

LOL.....perhaps 'Otto Matic'? -
Not necessarily, my copper-clad-craniumed colleague, I just built myself a new rig, and spent a substantial amount on hardware. But, for me, it was worth the extra few dollars for an OEM copy of XP pro 32 bit. I look at it as a temporary measure, until MS gets W7 serviced and stable enough to suit me. I don't really like living through the early days of new operating systems...anyone remember Windows ME?. I tried Vista on my wife's machine, and didn't like it at all, so having a known, stable OS seemed a good compromise until I move to W7. I also want to keep some of the software I use regularly that doesn't like the new systems and didn't want a Vista learning curve closely followed by a 7 learning curve. That said, I've already got a new HD ready for W7 when the time comes,...meantime I'm doing fine with 3GB of ram even though I look forward to more. Just another perspective...

I'm out for today too...have to be someplace in a few minutes. Will try to catch up with you all during the week.

Thanks Duck! Turns out that none of my ports are open. I found a place to specify in my firewall, and have set it to what I think is correct. Next time I catch someone on, I'll give it a shot again and see.
-
Well, Duck helped me forward mine the other evening. It didn't mess up any other computers accessing the net, but we still couldnt' get him to connect to my machine. Neither of us was sure why. I'm also willing to help host, just as soon as I figure out the connection thing.

newest patch for vasco volunteers
VonGuber replied to stumpjumper's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
Ok, this is a new one for me. Could someone please elaborate on how and what to uninstall? Thanks, -
I can be available during the day sometimes over the next couple of months. A day and time posted would be helpful.

Good idea, Ax, Here's my input; MP Then & Now: 3 then, 9 now. Previously, could seldom get up and running for MP, things are much better now. Online glitches (mismatches, jitters, etc.): 8 Because about 80% of the time there's no trouble and we get through the entire mission without someone having technical troubles. Ease of joining MP games: 9. Online hosts: 11. You guys go out of your way to make these sessions work...from mission building, skinning, tech support, etc., all the way to providing server space. What a great community! Types of MP missions being flown: 10. It's obvious that a lot of work goes into these missions. Attitude and behavior of online players: Again, 10+ 'Nuff said.

Got it sorted, thanks guys. I'll try to be on this evening.

Don't feel bad Stump, I can't get in with that IP address either...ditto on help appreciated.
