  1. Unfortunately the AI is the same kind of AI I have always found in OFFLine games, they can make their planes do amazing climbs and turns with no regard for actual physics. OFF is rapidly sinking in my view, the multiplayer is a horror show, the offline is a pretty boring joke. It's nice for awhile to get the feeling of the hours of bordom followed by 10 minutes of sheer horror, but in the end the game has started to bore me with it's constant "sameness". I make a bomber pilot and he gets a bomb run once in every 25 missions and if he hits the target with his bombs he gets no credit for it, only enemy aircraft seem to count unless he is specifically sent on a ground target mission. The biggest turn off for me is the stupid AI and what it can do, NO amount of denying it will change my mind, when I am in gun range all of sudden his EIII can climb like a jet and go vertical (but when I have the same aircraft I can't make it do that) and then hang in midair while I cannot avoid in my plane and crash into his STOPPED plane in the air, in the words of the famous tuna fish ad "Sorry Charlie". I know all of this stuff can be "dumbed down" but that doesn't interest me, then I found out yesterday that the game will not play MP on win7 (which I have ordered) so all in all it is a nice coaster for my coffee
  2. Mixture question

almost all late war German planes 1917 on had automix and the pilot had no need to do it, he did have to control his radiator (which is NOT modeled here)
  3. Intermediate DM 2.2 update available!

I agree with you but it happened? maybe something I did wrong on my machine? and btw the error message was NV4 not N4. I did not reset my rez after the patch either, maybe thats the problem (come to think of it I didn't see much change in damage either)
  4. shift F8 I believe is what I use
  5. OT/ We Choose The Moon

Regardless of the "motive" money must be spent if the program is to happen, your arguement is that it should not be "public money" if I read you right. I agree. with this proviso, no public money no public interferance, i.e. the government keeps their "greedy" hands off when the endevor starts to pay money.
  6. Intermediate DM 2.2 update available!

It always happened during the mission, while I was "looking around" with trackiR then I would crash to "safe mode" with a "N4 driver has failed" message
  7. Unbelievable mission

WOW that is impressive, I will quietly slip away now Thanks for the insight Winder, that makes me feel alot better, I was going down a tangent from experience with some "other" games and stand corrected.
  8. Unbelievable mission

LOL well I was thinking it was more like "If this than this" or "if time < x then this", probably just a coincidence that those 6 EIII's showed up in the flight path
  9. Intermediate DM 2.2 update available!

Herr Prop just a note to tell ya that I tried your DM's and both cause my GTX260 to lockup and then drop the video causing me to do a hard boot to reset. I reloaded the original DM and it all works fine, no lockups. not sure what is causing the Nivida card to lockup?
  10. OT/ We Choose The Moon

Well for starters the current space shuttle could ferry up to 100 people without all the scientific payload, secondly not all the materiel needed would have to come from earth. Also a space station on the moon with much less gravity would also cut the amount of power needed to move payloads and if my memory serves me right there was discussion about making fuel on moon, along with O2 and other gases. The third point is, if we had listened to all the boobirds in the first place we would not have gone to the moon. Anytime something new is proposed there will always be those that say "it will never fly".
  11. OT/ We Choose The Moon

Heh all of Bulletheads arguements are based on a Earth launched vehicle, but if that vehicle is launched from a space station much more weight can be shuttled around for power spent :) Hence the value of the time spend working on said space station.
  12. Unbelievable mission

Well the way I read his post he was sitting on the ground for sometime just trying to outwait the AI then he had to go to work so tried to takeoff again and died to a crash that he didn't think should have been fatal therefore my post refers to his attempted takeoff at the end. All the rest of your post is IMHO "feel good" rational, from what I have seen once you hit the "trigger" of x many hours you have to be VERY careful because the AI will use ANY excuse to kill your pilot, especially if you have set it to "dead is dead"
  13. Unbelievable mission

If you were not behind enemy lines I think choosing "end the flight" or whatever might have been the best choice, but obviously you had met the AI trigger of "kill him now" which is typical of AI type games. The game can kill you anytime it wishes i.e. "I was jumped by 6 EIII's with only 20 rounds left", this not a rant on OFF's AI it is just typical of every AI game I have ever played on the computer, which why I prefer online human opponets vs offline AI I like OFF very much and think the programmers have done an amazing job, so don't think I am ranting about the AI, just an observation after years of computer game playing
  14. OT/ We Choose The Moon

Well unfortunately MOST of the space stuff has been a direct result of us trying to kill one another I remember when the Russians launched "sputnik" and embarrassed our space program to the point where President Kennedy gave his "we choose to go to the moon" speach. The "small things" you refer to, have cost american lives to accomplish (some of those lives lost were due to incompentency) and alot of the space shuttle and space station work has led to some pretty significant stuff here on earth. I do agree that nothing close to the huge jump of landing on the moon (from a PR prospective) has been done. Being a former "missileman" may have jaded my view I served with the USAF 1961-1965, and was in during the Cuban Missle Crisis, I was with SAC and worked on the Atlas F
  15. OT/ We Choose The Moon

Ouch we here in Arizona were quite proud of our kids that did the unmanned landing and exploration of Mars We just haven't done alot of manned stuff (If you donot count the space shuttle), but I would hardly call it wasted time Maybe we need some of those highly educated Brits on our space team
  16. To easy?

comes the dawn, don't feed the trolls
  17. Immelman turn and manoevers

Interesting Pol, I had never heard that about the aileron design before. I know that rolling to the right was always harder due to engine torque effects and needed some rudder input to force it over. I will take your word for the research, it had seemed to me that the weight to horsepower ratio would have allowed for better manuvering but I have not done the work to research the info so I am sure I must be wrong.
  18. Well I suspect that the programmers put alot of time into the "claims" portion of the game and wanted guys to use it so they weighted it accordingly (now realize I am just guessing here). Yeah there are so many choices you have to remember what you have done, the other day I was amazed at how well my bomber pilot was doing only to discover that I had set pilots to never die while testing some stuff on QB and forgot to set it back
  19. Reason for screen name....

Mine dates back to when a good friend and I started flying Air Warrior, back in the 6 bucks an hour days, when we signed on we needed a "handle" even tho everyone was listed by a tail number, well I am 6'2" and 285 lbs soooo he said why not "BigJim" since my first name is Jim. He had been an Air Borne Ranger so his was "RangerBob" his first name being Bob, wellll we have been "BigJim" and "RangerBob" in every online sim since, which covers AW, WB, AH, AHII, WWIIOL, and DOA. He has since retired from gaming, not sure why I am older than him and he was wealther than me
  20. Immelman turn and manoevers

Turn off the wind it costs you 10% on realisim but it allows your plane to fly. I found that with the wind turned on almost nothing flew right as the game put me in gail force head winds constantly (which keeps your speed slow). The immelman is the tuffer of two choices for a quick reverse, the other choice being the split s, because it requires a half loop into an aileron roll. If you have the alt the split s is the better choice because it is an aileron roll inverted and the a dive and pull up. I have already expressed my concerns about the FM and aileron rolls and also the effect of wind on these birds. While they were lightly powered they we also very light with tremendous lift (in most cases). Too long inverted will cause the engine to stall due to lack of fuel (no or very few pressurized fuel systems in WWI) but the onset in this FM is too quick IMHO. but all in all the work done here has been done very well and don't want to minimize the work done as I don't have the skill to do what they have done
  21. I think the realism drop is because the game cannot "deny" your claims making it VERY unreal compared to the WWI experience. My bomber pilot has killed 2 balloons 1 was confirmed the other was denied, my witness on the first one (which was denied) was too far away I think. Heh I am one of those that won't write long reports If you get no opportunity to fill out a claim then the game didnot record you hitting or downing anything.
  22. best ace

Yeah I used rudder only for the flat turn and it dipped and rolled into that screwy spiral that you can recover by centering the rudder, in fairness I guess the DR1 was abit "on the edge" of stable flight characteristics I know the Red Baron felt it was highly unstable even though he flew it well.
  23. Recent RoF postings

heheh I ordered both at the same time and I have no regrets, sure I will come to the OFF boards and "bitch" alitte about some OFF thing or the other (that's my crochity oldman style) but all in all I try to keep post to OFF subjects. I think the moderators of this board do a fine job and if I jump out of line I expect to get a friendly shoulder tap, and I should
  24. best ace

Lou don't misunderstand what I mean, the developers HAVE done a great job, and you are right I tend to set the bar high for myself because of my long experience with computer flying, I guess I could fool around with the settings but I notice the minute you start to start to cut things back the realism monitor takes a Huge dip, like turning off wind, I think drops it 10 or 20 percent. I was unaware that I could set AI amounts in workshop guess I better shutup and look somemore
