  1. Thank you. Anyhow... aren't F-4s after all always navy, even when they wear the air force camouflage?
  2. I have a merged install of SF2V and SF2E, and I find all five lods for the F-84F in the ObjectData009.cat.
  3. I really love the Ejection Mod from CA_Stary. It's not a matter of Eye Candy, it really adds a lot to the whole immersion The same frame, from both points o view: .
  4. Ehmmm... shouldn't this thread be placed in the SF2V File Announcement Forum , as these skins are for SF2V? Thank you. Danilo
  5. F-4J Linebacker MiG Killers

    Version

    533 downloads

Three skins for ThirdWire's original F-4J from SF2V, showing them as they were painted during the SEA Linebacker campaign in 1972. These are: VF-31 Tomcatters VF-92 Silverkings VF-114 Aardvarks Original real life Bu. No. from that cruise are included. The MiG Killers among them are: BuNo 7249 NH206, VF-114, crew Robert Hughes and Adolph Cruz BuNo 7245 NH201, VF-114, crew Kenneth Pettigrew and Michael McCabe BuNo 7269 NG211, VF-92, crew Curtis Dose and James McDevitt BuNo 7307 AC106, VF-31, crew Samuel Flynn and William John These skins are heavily based on those Ravenclaw_007 did for WoV, e.g. http://forum.combatace.com/files/file/8226-f-4j-vf-33-tarsiers/ which were again based on Sundowner's famous hi-res template, e.g. http://www.column5.us/phantoms.htm Thus big kudos to them! I just took pieces from both, cleaned them up and made my own templates, modified them and added all bits to fit the mapping of the new meshes from SF2V. Made new decals… et voilà. Textures are 1024*1024 size. Installation instructions: For WinXP users unzip the files to: C:\Documents and settings\"My name"\My documents\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam\Objects\ For Win7 users unzip the files to: C:\Documents and settings\"My name"\Saved Games\Thirdwire\StrikeFighters2 Vietnam\Objects\ Danilo
  6. It seems to me you guys are somehow dogged by bad luck! Maybe would some Voodoo practice help? (and I don't mean fly a few hours with the one-o-wonder... )
  7. Wouldn't it be nice to mention here the brand and the model of the failed HDs??? Data loss after a 9 year duty is fine, but noone wants to buy an HD who dies even before its first birthday.

  10. I had this same problem one time. It happened to me using a radar background texture in TGA format. With the latest graphic engine you can only use a BMP texture (as far as I know... ). Did you messed up in any way with the cockpit textures? I can see weird stripes around your HUD... Danilo
  11. No airplane in this screenshot... nevertheless, call it payback, but that's for me the kind of missile shot that amuse me the most
  12. Today was an Alpha Strike to Sam County on the schedule… Yes we went to visit the Dragon’s Jaw and try to make him shut. Now you know, you can’t just fly through toward Thanh Hoa and pretend to drop bombs just like that. Five Air Regiments are stationed in that area, waiting for you to shot you down… The plan was like that: 2x RA-5C RVAH-13 (Bats), Iron Hand in the Hunter role 2x F-4J VF-92 (Silver Kings), Iron Hand in the Killer role 2x F-4J VF-114 (Aardvarks) TARCAP 2x F-4J VF-96 (Black Falcons) MigCAP 2x F-105D 563rd TFS (Ace Of Spades) as Bombers Me… I was doing the YGBSM* mission As soon as we passed our IP, the RWR begun to peep like crazy… Ok let’s start some jinking and wait for the Hunters to turn down some Radars. Finally: “Shotgun!” Now that the first sites were down, we could get in and start picking some SA-9 and Sa-8 to decontaminate this area. Is not easy at all to visually get your targets while you dodge these missiles going lower that 300ft! Nevertheless my wingman was making a fabulous job hitting all the targets I could assign to him. Suddenly the usual voice screaming: “Get him off me! I can’t shake him!!!”. OK now are MiGs in the game. As you don’t want to lose your Wingie in such a mission, I took a look around to see what was going on, and see the VF-114 leader above me with a Blue Bandit (MiG-21) in trail trying to outrun him. “These guys are supposed to protect US from the bandits!!!”, were my first thoughts… So I went in full AB, 120° turn, full radar lock and fired an AIM-7. Which obviously missed... then fired again… same, ground clutter is too high here at 1000ft . Now in Heat range I rather squeezed an AIM-9, which went right up his tailpipe. You can scratch one MiG from the list. Before I could think of anything else, I suddenly saw other juicy targets on the ground, and went after my primary mission again. Very few minutes later, I saw on the map (a little cheat I admit) a red plane going after my wingman! This time for real! So I told him to break and to go air 2 air, and went in AB to get some altitude to try to get the Red Bandit in my radar. This was my very last act. Indeed: “SAM launch, SAM launch!!!”, and in a split of a second before I could get a look after the source of the danger BOOM… disintegration. These SA-9 are very deadly… But my Wingman did again very well. He survived THIS situation against all odds, with two MiG-17 firing at him simultaneously, and did in the end a clean AIM-9 kill. The MiGCAP section was further useless… Lt. Connelly flying this VERY SAME plane stated after the air battle of 10 may 1972, he would have had at least two more kills, if he only had a cannon. This pilot was seriously trying to dissent, wasting 1000 round of the SUU-23 on the same target without a single hit! In the end the Thuds found their way in to the target, put their payload on the right spot, and found their way out. It also seemed like we did good job. After all although we lost 3 F-4 (me and the two lousy VF-114 CAPs, don’t kwon how… it was not my job to look after them…) I think this can considered as a successful mission. You don’t get every day the chance to shut the Dragon’s Jaw! * YGBSM = you’ve gotta be sh#tting me!!! This is what the first F-100 Weasel drivers said after they discovered that their new mission was to hunt for SAMs and kill them…

  18. Great idea! Looking forward to make some post here. (ehmmm... did I just break the rules? .... )
  19. How about just adding this line in the *Data.ini file: [Canopy] ... ReverseModelOrientation=TRUE <--------- ... It should now still work automatic, but now in the right direction. It worked for me with a couple of birds...
  20. Sometimes there are some missions, you just can't be satisfied how they go on, so you just keep playing them again ang again... So it was for me with this single mission from the Mission Generator (WoV). 4 F-4J flying escort for 8 RF-101C striking Vinh airfield with their MK-28EX The first time the bomber were ambushed, had to jettison their ordnance, and one Voodoo was even shoot down. The second attempt my wingman was shoot down after I set 4 'winders in some 4 MiG-21 tails... aaahg! OK... now HAD to be perfect (last famous words...). We had to defy 8 MiG-21 Fishbed-E and 2 Fishbed-F (sorry... I'm a cold war guy... only NATO codes known here... :wink2: ) Now I knew the Interceptor's path, so I set my course to catch them from their 6-o-clock. We pushed our attack just as they begun firing atolls to the Voodoos. We got many of them, the other just broke the attack off, as the Fishbed-E has no Gun and just 2 Atolls... The Voodoos: "bombs away!"... ... Kah-boooom... When the nuclear flash was over and I could see again, my wingman kept fleeing: "get him off me!... Someone get HIM OFF ME!". A Fishbed pusuing him and he could not get rid of him. "Now you won't spoil my mission results by downing my No.2!!!". I went in full 'burner after them, but could barely catch them up. I can't believe I could barely do more than 600kts, but that SUU-23 pod drags like a chute!!! And I had no more Sparrow for a long range shot :nea: At 4 miles range my AIM-9H gave a good tone, so I tried a desperate shot, just to get him break the attack. The missile flew and flew and flew... no joy. Next attempt at 3.5mls... same. At ca. 2.8mls my last Sidewinder: guided nice toward the target, then NVAF pilot did a little roll, the missile dropped a bit and flew right into the Phantom's tail... OK... the wingman was yet still flying , so it looked like I got a new chance... and they begun now a dogfight, so they finally went subsonic and I could catch up a bit. At 0.5mls range he was already blasting his 23mm gun, with me behind him erratic firing away my vulcan... but adrenaline is no helper in aiming your gun (ok ok... this time I was a real bad gunner... ). So it ended with my Wingman hit and shot down in flames, and the MiG escaping to the deck. Hallelujah... With 350lbs fuel left I said to me "I'll get you, even if it costs me my last drop of fuel!" (mission was rather screwed up...) But this guy could really fly his Fishbed. Everytime I went on his tail, he did an Immelman and flew away the opposite direction. The third time I tried a Barrel Roll in response, but it ended with him at my 8 o-clock going after me (what a bad fighter pilot I am... ). Now it was no time to try to turn into him, I unloaded and went toward the deck accelerating at full military. But after a few seconds he broke his attack off, and headed to the base. "He must be BINGO now!!!" With a 9G turn in full AB I was soon again in his dead 6 o-clock, and finally had the easiest gun kill after the longest engagement ever... When he was going down my fuel gauge said 7lbs left... I had an emergency landing near Quon Lung, and went home by feet Danilo Sorry for the long text...

  22. The biggest explosion I could catch on a screenshot while a A2A fight. Somehow proud of this gun-only kill with a Starfighter against a Fresco...
  23. Another funny story about the damage model... I was flying a TARCAP over Libya with a flight of F-106A. After a successful fight with 4 Frescos, I was scanning the sky for other bandit. Suddenly I saw a huge, straight smoke trail. Locked on, and you can immagine my surprise as I saw THIS cripple heading home! I fired my last AIM-4G at 2mls range (which obviously didn't hit anything... ) but as the MiG started to manouever to dodge the missile, he realised he couldn't go on and gave up. Actually after the mission I went to the LOG file and saw that to the point of my encounter with the Fresco, he was already quoted as "shot down" from my wingman So after all I'm truly not complaining about the damage model, just enjoying the different blossoms this game can create. Danilo
  24. You can't tell your wingman to attack a black bandit (a low on fuel or landing bandit). He always ends with overshooting, without firing a single round...
  25. Those F-104 pictures made me want to share this screenshot of mine:
