Welcome aboard Red. I did the same thing when I started and highly recommend flying for 56 squadron starting in April or May of 1917. You will fly the S.E.5 a very forgiving airplane IMO for a beginner, and will see tons of action. Give it a try and good luck!

Definitely sounds like video settings to me on that point, I have everything maxed and its looks great. The AI is not like anything in the other sims you mentioned and is superior in every aspect. The sim is HARD and you have to constantly be aware of your surroundings, as well as familarize yourself with craft you will fly. Good luck on the settings!

Lol, Olham. 148th is outnumbered most of the time so we get it where we can. -

About time you got here. Now get up to the front and join the 148th Aero, I am losing wingmen like flies out here! -
First flight - Impressions and Questions
Fliegenhund replied to Briggs's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
After 17hrs Briggs your career continues. Most guys want to hit the magic 50hrs which I think is extremely difficult unless you are in a boony sector with no enemies. Personally I set a goal of 30 more minutes after 17hrs, it is tough! -
Spielberg should release this on cleaned up video with narration, it would be phenomenal. I have seen the clips of Goering in his cockpit taking off his headwraps, but the rest is new to me. MVR putting on his flight gear and climbing in to fly off was awesome.

That is amazing footage, I never knew it existed! Thanks for sharing.

I enclosed a pic of my personal best yet (in hours). Alas poor Otto! I knew him well!

Which is the best machine and time to start with in campaign as a newbie
Fliegenhund replied to OHO's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I would recommend you fly some free flights in various planes and see what feels right. I think an Albatros for the Germans and a Pup/Se5 for the Allies. Either way I would be careful not to plant yourself in a squadron right in the front lines on your first campaign. You can get swarmed easily in the hot zones and it can be quite frustrating as you are trying to learn the game. Just like a cold pool, dip in slow and easy at first. Welcome aboard and remember, height and speed keep you alive out there! Good luck. -
Immersion? You've got to be kidding!

The bug bit you too. I have said it on many threads but no sim has ever grabbed me like this one, and I have played alot of them. Truly a phenomenal game, especially for historic and realism nuts like me. -
Frustrating problem with claims in last flight
Fliegenhund posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I just had an epic flight in my camel in 1917. Myself and two wings engaged a flight of 5 aces from Jasta 18, and one regular airman. My wings got shot to pieces and I fought and shot down all 6 of the attackers. Josef "Seppl" Veltjens, Raven Freiherr Barkenow, Paul Strahle, Rudolf Berthold, Johannes Klein, and the regular airmen. Needless to say I was flipping out after the most exciting fight I have had in a simulation EVER. I made sure to pause and take notes after each kill like I always do and am rarely getting rejected claims. I entered the very long detailed narrative including the pilot names and claimed it as 5 Alb. DIII(OAW) the aces were flying, and the one Alb. D.V. It told me the claim was erroneous. I tried many different combinations frustrated at this flight not going in correctly. Eventually all it would take was 2 OAW's! I reviewed the flight and it corroborated my notes. I havent had this problem before and was hoping someone could enlighten me as to what may have happened? Is it a bug of some sort, as my info matched up exactly with the mission review. Here is my narrative, would the ace names cause a problem? Thanks for any input! Engaged a flight of Alb. DIII (OAW) and Alb. D.V. of Jasta 18 northwest of LaGorgue airfield. I landed several rounds into the first crafts tail, cockpit and wings from close range. The bottom wings came off and the craft spun into the ground, breaking apart on impact. Pilot identified as Josef "Seppl" Veltjens. I landed several rounds into the second crafts tail and cockpit from close range. It began to trail black smoke and crashed into the treetops, breaking apart on impact. Pilot identified as Raven Freiherr Von Barkenow. I landed several rounds into the third crafts tail and wings from very close range. The left wings came off and the craft spun in to its left and hit the ground, breaking apart on impact. Pilot identified as Paul Strahle. I landed several rounds into the fourth crafts tail and cockpit from very close range. The cockpit burst into flames and the engine seperated from the craft. It slammed into the ground, breaking apart on impact. Pilot identified as Rudolf Berthold. I landed several rounds into the crafts tail, wings, and cockpit from very close range. It began to trail black smoke and large pieces of the left wing came off. The craft hit the top of a tree and broke apart on impact. Pilot identified as Johannes Klein (For the D.V.) - Landed several rounds into the crafts tail and cockpit from very close range, the cockpit burst into flames, the craft rolled over and slammed into the ground, breaking apart on impact. -
Frustrating problem with claims in last flight
Fliegenhund replied to Fliegenhund's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I understand that Al and if they were just sent back as rejected I would be OK with that. What I am saying as entering them into the claim form wouldnt even work, when I put the data in immediately after the flight it said "Claims erroneous and will be rejected outright, continue?". They werent erroneous that is the problem, the claim system wouldnt accept it. -
Or as Jim Carrey said in Dumb and Dumber "tea and strumpets".

Welcome aboard. You will find the boards really helpful when you start out, and you may as well practice using the other game discs for coasters now. They will have drink rings on them in no time.

Numerous times. The AI in this game is so human like it is almost scary sometimes. I started flying flight sims when European Air War came out and have flown them all. This is honestly the only game where I have seen the AI attempt to flee when it is damaged and knows it cant win. All other games it fights to the death in a fruitless attempt. The other thing that gets me is when they land when they are severely damaged to live and fight another day. Watch out for them too if they have a big height advantage but you outnumber them. I have seen numerous times where they stalk you like a shark, once one of your craft gets some separation they will pounce on him. Truly awesome AI.

Eindekker strategy ...or...
Fliegenhund replied to Mr. Lucky's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I personally would say the keys are height advantage and very cautious commitment to a fight. I have flown EIII campaigns and they do get very difficult once the Allies start sending their early gems after you. I would think diving for the deck would be the worst thing you could do. Once you get to the lowest you can go alot of the planes will be able to catch up to you. The EIII isnt going to climb like and Alb. either so if you find yourself outnumbered and low and slow, you are in some serious trouble. Height and caution. -

The paranoid haunted feeling comes when you are playing the most difficult settings and your pilot is hovering around 15+hrs into his career. Then you see a flight of the most dreaded opposing aircraft 4K above you outnumbering you 2 to 1. You will see...... I never got that in IL2 either. -
I shot Hermann Goering down!
Fliegenhund replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
True Olham, Asia and the Middle East are the current problem areas. Really only North Korea in Asia, Japan is another one of our strongest allies currently and I think they would attack North Korea tomorrow if they could. My brother in law was married while stationed on Okinawa with the Marines and says the Japanese were very upset with those missile tests. -

My wife has family members in the deep south of USA. They belong to a certain church I dont want to name because I dont want to offend anyone if they are affiliated. Anyway, these people believe Germany is going to rise up and start a WW3. My wife and I laugh everytime we hear from her aunt, they truly believe this, but I believe the Germans are and will always be one of our strongest allies here in the US. -
How to get to 17 hours without really trying...?
Fliegenhund replied to Ben C's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I highly recommend Jasta 28w starting around March 1917 onward. Tons of action and it will really test your skills. -
I shot Hermann Goering down!
Fliegenhund replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It is a shame some of the Germans from WW1 got sucked into the Hitler vortex. Reading about Goering landing and shaking the hand of a man he shot down and politely telling him he is a prisoner is an endearing story. Then to see him and his inflated ego (and body) during WW2 parading around with that maniac, you wonder what happened. Shameful too are the ones who got involved and by the time they realized what they were mixed up in they took their own lives. They had no other option. -
Thinking of Buying Over Flanders Field
Fliegenhund replied to outfctrl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Without a doubt purchase the game. You will kick yourself when you realize you didnt buy it sooner. Once you dive into your first campaign and see the depth, the stat tracking, the unscripted meetings with enemy aircraft, etc, etc, you will be shocked. Report back here after you first couple missions so you can prove me right. -
Was cruising along up to 5hrs with 7 kills with my latest pilot in J28w. Just took off on my last mission a scramble. I got barely 500ft off of the ground and myself and my two wingmen were descended on by about 8 tripes, 6 of them were Aces! Needless to say I we got shredded and that pilot is dead. Next time its different mission. I did a search here on scrambles and wish I had read Bulletheads words of wisdom before I took off on that one. :(

I agree with you Bullet. I just lost my RNAS8 pilot to a freak collision a couple of days ago. Adding insult to injury he had 16.75hrs flying time, talk about cruel! But the pup is very nimble I found with using right rudder you can almost turn 180 with enough speed, it got me out of some tight spots that little trick!
