  1. That book is one of the best one volume account of first world war. I agree with you mightysrc. I think that I've already sent you, Olham, the documentary based on that book. Didn't I? But I'd also recommend the one from John Keegan. IMHO, Keegan is probably the best military historian still alive. Between the two I'd choose the Strachan one.
  2. Yes, that's an admirable book.
  3. Don't worry. They are just buying everything that has some value. I doubt that they would want to buy anything here in Portugal. Anyway, the yellow menace exists, it's real. Only our leaders don't want to see that; besides they are already in the payroll from those who do business with them. I've the feeling that one day we'll regret all of this... "laisser faire et lassez passez".
  4. No. You're just being bought by the Chinese. So they say....
  5. I've asked this, because I tend to have a certain insensibility towards AA, even being a 1280x1024 user.
  6. Eheheh. Now serioulsy, in which circumstances the differences are more noticeable?
  7. Yes, Olham, your 4870 supports it. In this case you don't see significant differences.
  8. Good explanation, BirdDog.
  9. Received A Package From France

    Great find Lou.
  10. Never had major problems with Outpost. But I had one with NOD32 and XP (in both my rigs). But like you Pol, I like the NOD32's light footprint. Unfortunately, next year I'll have to cut some expenses, and probably I'll have to opt for a free one. I'm seriously thinking in the Microsoft Essentials. It seems to be also light. I've a lifetime license for Outpost, so I'll have to see what is the better to match with it.
  11. There's one more thing, that in this case is important. I think that is very important to feel "comfortable" with your security software. Kaspersky is one of the best security programs, however, I don't use it because I stop feeling comfortable with it since 2005. The Norton since 2000, Mcafee since DOS times. The truth is, that most of these Internet Security programs offer more than a basic security (as long as they are well configured). There are no fool proof security programs. In my job, people are always asking me if they should change their security programs. And my answer is always the same. "Do you so far feel comfortable with it?". If the answer is yes, I always tell them to not change it. My personal choice it's based more on the way the program interacts with the system and with my way of using it. I use a combo of AV and Firewall. As a AV use NOD32 and for firewall Outpost Pro. In my case it's a good combo.
  12. Glad to know that you've passed the PC flank test. But if you asked me is more reliable than the matoused tests, I doubt. As far as I know there are different ways of testing the security. And the methodology and rules are not the same. But nowadays, every internet security program (not only AV), must pass that security test. That's the minimum. As for the Matousec, there always people who says they aren't reliable. I've use it, for many years, as reference. I've seen that in the last 1 or 2 years they seem to favour Comodo. That link is an abuse, I agree. But there is a free version of Comodo firewall and antivrus. In all those years I've seen Norton going down and going up on that chart. The same with Kaspersky, for example. I believe they are good overall source. I'd prefer they didn't follow affiliate politics, because it raises suspections. But in their line of service, if they loose their reliability, they'll loose the business. So I believe that they still have some reliability. Don't worry rabu, maybe in the next chart, your Norton will raise it's score. And by the way, Comodo, has a great free firewall.
  13. As far as I know it's the best protection, in terms of anti malware, that MS has launched so far. But remember it's only antivirus and antispyware. It hasn't a firewall included. So probably in terms of overall security it's not best than some commercial products out there. Here are some AntiVirus tests: http://www.av-test.org/certifications http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews Now lets get a little more serious: http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php And if you want to test your security: http://www.pcflank.com/
  14. The problem with OvS is not the Google Virus. Otherwise it wouldn't happen with grabit, which is a usenet client, working in different ports than any Internet browser. When OvS says lockup, I'm assuming it's a freeze. The image just freezes, and the hardisk is still working. It doesn't reboot only freezes, mouse and keyboard stop working. With this symptom, I'd say it's hardly, a memory problem. But to be absolutely sure, yes memtest is a good memory tester. EDIT: With Win7 there are a lot of better tools to recover/repair the system than with XP. Even Vista is better than XP in that matter. But UK, I haven't done that with Vista and W7, and to be honest even if I can do, I really prefer to do a fresh install when all my tools fail. UK, if you need any repair tool for Vista or Windows 7, pm me. From a fellow IT to another IT.
  15. There's always the possibility of your network controller being damaged. It wouldn't be the first time I saw something similar happening. Usually it's permanent, not random. But it can be heat related. So I would also try with other network controller.
  16. New ATi Driver 10.9

Yes, Olham, I think with our 4xxx, we won't benefit much from this or any future driver.
  17. You can download MHDD : http://hddguru.com/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/ That's a great scan tool. Choose the iso image and burn a cd with it. Boot the computer from CD. Choose the number with the hardisk you want to test. Than press F4 for scanning. But you can also try, and it's easier, the tools from Western Digital. Data Lifeguard diagnostics. Choose the Dos (CD), it's an image. Burn a CD with that image and boot your computer from it. http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?level1=6&lang=en Grabbit, sometimes has some strange behavior. I had once one or two freezes. But it's not usual. Anyway you shouldn't have any freezes with firefox or with ie. Don't your windows do updates? Because in most of the times whenever windows do an update, it will create a restore point. Unless you've deactivated System restore. But if you've several restore points just roll back to your previous.
  18. If you've scanned with all of those and the results were negative, than I seriously doubt that your problem is malware, trojan or virus related. I doubt is memory related, otherwise you'd have a lot of BSOD (blue screens of death) and reboots but not freeze. Freeze is related usually to a problem with a graphic card, with a corrupted OS or a problem with Hardisk controllers, hardisk cables or even the hardisk itself. So... Tell me does this happening only when you're downloading? Are you downloading through a browser, using any download manager or throught other clients? I can give you the right utils if you want to test the hardisk, but need to know the brand. For the graphic card there is not much you can do, I usually use the Futuremark 3DMark Vantage to test it, because it will stress a little your graphic card. One of the things you can do, and think it was already referred by RugbyFan, it to roll back a few restore points (might begin with the later). Usually if it is a corrupted OS it will deals with the problem. You can also open a Command prompt screen and write this: SFC /SCANNOW This is a system file checker. http://www.updatexp....cannow-sfc.html

  20. Deus Ex:Human Revolution trailer

Another trailer: One thing is for sure, the ambiance is getting good. It's smells 100% cyberpunk. Now we only need the gameplay of the legacy, and will have a classic of the classics. I'm dreaming....
