Maybe you haven't so many, still you have a few. Besides the classical ones like "Her Private We" by Frederic Manning, "Under Fire" by Henri Barbusse, "Storm of Steel" by Ernest Jünger (this one is more a first personal account ) and "All Quiet in the Western Front" by Erich Maria Remarque, you've modern writers basing some of their fiction in WWI. The Regeneration trilogy ("Regeneration", "The Eye in the Door" and "The Ghost Road") from Pat Barker is one fine and best examples. (As long has you don't mind a certain Homosexual content) You've also "Bird Song" from Sebastian Faulks, "Flanders" by Patricia Anthony, "The Unknown Soldier" by Neil Hanson (this one isn't really a novel) and "A Long Long Way" by Sebastian Barry. These are the ones that I own, but I'm sure you'll find more.

You've Forgotten Voices, which is a kind of collection of interviews of people (British) who fought ( and lived) in WWI. The book is quite interesting because it gives you the first hand accounts. But it's the audio version, with the real audio interviews, that gives you the full "picture". English is not my native language, so I've a little difficulty in following them some times, specially those with a stronger accents. In spite of that, IMHO, it's a must have. This is the site where I've bought and download the audio files: Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 Link 4 In the same site you'll find more WWI non-fiction audiobooks. You may also find WWI poetry in that format. P.S. If you want to buy them I'd advise too make a google search, because you may find them cheaper. When I bought a couple of years ago was no choice.

Actually, Olham, "Paths of Glory" reminds me more Chemin des Dames. But it's true, the arrogance of stupidity its the same one.

I too think they work pretty well, Mike. Only it's more drama than flight scenes, which in my personal case suits well. I tend to prefer the drama to SFX.

I think it's a very accurate picture of the flying war on the western front in it's first two years. A good effort; a pity they didn't go for the whole WWI. I recomend it. EDIT: Don't expect much special effects and big combat scenes. It's more drama than anything.

You're too hard with the English team. I didn't see the match so I cannot comment. English players have a lot of playing hours after a regular season. You may say the same from others European teams, but I bet not all have the same hours. I'm not trying to find an excuse, but I bet if this was in the middle of the European football season, things would be different.

I dream with the day that FIFA let the referees consult the videos while playing, specially in situations like these, in god hands and in false or true penalties. Aren't we all fade up of this situations?! Shame for FIFA. :angry2:

That was naught y Widow. It's in the collective sports that usually the Americans try to play it different from the rest of the world. Although, I really like how they play basketball. Since I watched for the first time a NBA match, I think it was one of those mythical Celtics vs Lakers in the 80's, I wasn't able to see a European basketball game again. Yes I'm a NBA fan since then.

I almost feel sorry for the North Korean players; for the first time they were broadcasting live for North Korea a football match with it's national team playing, and what they assist?! A complete tsunami. As for Portugal, now we'll face Brazil and that will be another matter. I hope I won't assist to another tsunami. With Brazil will never know what will happened with those wizards. But I'm confident that we will pass to the next knockout round.

I will always call soccer as football. For us in Portugal there are two kinds of football. The American and the real one.

I'm pretty confident that Germany will pass. They seem to be in good shape and are strong. Brazil and Germany are the favorites for me. England still has a lot of chances to pass. I guess you aren't used to make some calculations. We Portuguese we are always making calculations in terms of football. We have to suffer, always. Things have always to be hard. It seems that to us it has to be that way. For example we are now thinking that if we can pass our group in the second place maybe we won't caught Spain in the next round. There's a pretty good chance for Switzerland to stay in 1st place in its group. Of course sometimes "these" calculations fail. The French won't have much chances. But to be honest they didn't deserve in the first place to be in this World Cup. That goal against Ireland.... One of the biggest problems with Les Bleu it's the coach. I believe, like Zidane, that Domenech is not a a coach. And probably, it never was.
