  1. WOFF FM Thread

    Gavagai; Thanks for the suggestion of trying the slip turn. I used spot view instead of f3. I can now see the difference. when flying the stock xfm and trying a side slip with full rudder counter to ailerons the craft cannot be held in the a straight side slip approach. It want to keep turning. Your xfm on the other hand makes side slip properly possible. I also tried it in a slip turn and now can see the difference in that yours will hold much longer in a tight turn before reaching stall speed. I guess what I was lacking was the visual confirmation that I needed. I wasn't feeling it before hand. You have achieved some nice improvements in the handling sir. As for how the DVa should really handle I don't know. I would surmise that a side slip should be possible and your xfm makes it so. I now feel that the devs should look at this and make a judgement call if possible. Best Regards;

    I always have my MODS folder under the "WOFF" folder and when I download mods from anyone I make sure the correct Folder structure is in place for that mod. If the mod isn't defined properly by the modder, I create it so it will work. In my case all the mods are activated fine. Just thought I would set this straight.
  3. WOFF FM Thread

    I will try your suggestion. I know my xfm is in the right place as I validated it before trying the mod. I always look to see the files have been implemented when I activate a mod in JSGME, before using them in WOFF. I'm anal that way. I guess it's my project mgmt background (due diligence). best regards

    Hi Adger; All my flights were in QC not Campaign mode. Interesting you notice a difference in the rudder and I didn't find that. Are you able to quantify or qualify exactly what handling aspects you noticed were better and in what particular manouvers? It may help me focus on it when I try it again. I would hate to think I overlooked something when I am giving assessment back on the test. Best Regards; Von Bauer; There is something to be said for sharing experiences when testing / trying mods. It helps to validate impressions. That said, I agree it requires an open mind and a willingness to accept what you may not want to hear. It's often referred to as maturity in communications, something we all strive for and sometimes fail. But as the man once said, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If we don't try new things we will fail to advance our skills and achievements. We need only bear with differing opinions. Best Regards mate
  5. WOFF FM Thread

    Well; I just flew two more QC flights in the DVa using both the stock mod and what I will refer to as the "gavagai" mod. I flew free flight doing tight left and right turns climbs and dives, in all cases going for stall limits. I also tried ham handed quick turns to force control loss (what I like to call dolphining or porpoising characteristcs in the loss of control. I tried 15% to 20% climb hands off to see the response. I found both the stock and the moded xfm to be very similar. No significant difference to me. Again, I am no expert, but if I had to decide between the two, I would be hard pressed to make a decision. I know this is not what everyone wants to hear and I can't really account for the difference in opinion between myself and Adger. The only difference in our approach is that Adger went into combat for comparison and I went with standard controlled manouvers in free flight. I look to hearing more feedback from other testers as I would not like to think that my test is conclusive. Please feel free to query me on any detail or ask for some more specific testing manouvers to try. Best Regards;

    Gavagai; Sorry for the mistake. I was actually testing the mod for the DV that Bucksnort posted ( I believe originally from Hellshade with some additional changes). I have not yet tried the DVa which is from you. I will be doing that soon, so sorry for the confusion. It is my mistake. That being said my impression of the DV mod remains the same at this time. Best Regards; Actually Gavagai, Your mod has been prepared for use in QC and Campaign unless I'm interpreting the mod incorrectly. Look at the screen capture of the mod folder below:
  7. WOFF FM Thread

    gavagai; I have only had two test flights in QC alternating with the stock xfm as comparison and to help me re-enforce my impressions. I personally feel that I experience only marginal improvements but again I have only had two test flights. I have to stop for the moment because the sun has just come to a point where it is coming in my window affecting my Track-IR so I will probably have to wait for an hour. Again to summarize in a turn, I see not significance in turn radius, speed bleed or stall characteristics. That said, I didn't see any significant gain when I tested Hellshades mod. which I spent considerable time on. Now I am no expert on the DV, but I did post two vids with and without Hellshades mod in combat against 2 Pups which I posted in this thread and if you look at those you can see that the DV flew equally the same with and without the mod. I feeling pretty much the same with yours. I'm not saying it doesn't work, I'm only saying I don't feel anything significant gained. I haven't tried the DVa yet but I will as soon as the sun gets out of the way of my Track-IR and then I will post my impressions. Hopefully you will get some additional feed back from others to confirm or deny my impressions. I will run the DV mod some more as well and report back again. Best Regards;

    Ok. I will jump in and see if I can avoid having my ass shot off so to speak!! One last question. Should I expect the same behavior in QC and Campaign or will things be different? Best Regards;
  9. WOFF FM Thread

    Folks; I have just downloaded both mods identified Bucksnort and Elephant in earlier threads here. I'm about to try them out but was wondering if anyone else has done so. I have looked at all the threads here and I don't see any comments on them. I have the time to test them but I will await a response. Best Regards;

    Does anybody have any comments on the two FM tests I ran in QC? comments on my flight skills to be omitted!

    The doctors haven't got that perfected yet Olham, but the chip may be coming out soon! I hope so, before I get too old or get alzheimers!!
  12. WOFF FM Thread

    Hi Folks; Ok, I have gone back to the stock xfm for the DV and recorded a video of a combat with 2 Pups in QC. For the sake of comparison I am posting the original video of the same scenario that I took in QC using the modified xfm for the DV, followed by the video of a combat session in QC with the stock xfm. My impression is that there is little difference and if there is, it is very marginal. I am now inclined to lean in favour of Polovski's comment that my first impression "Could be a placebo.. our new XFM uses setting intelligently. What is in a text file is not the whole story. RexH says "both calculations are based on propRPM times propMOI. So there is no need to adjust for inline engine differences." I am no expert flyer of the DV but I can say that my approach to handling it is consistent across both video's. What does stand out (but is not evident in the videos) is that during the course of learning this craft I discovered that forward speed is everything and that when trying to turn when the speed is low caused bad things to happen. Keep the speed up well from stall and make those turns with gentle progression. quick snappy moves makes the DV unhappy and you also. 13. WOFF FM Thread

    Hello Folks, May I chime in here. I have read all the threads here with interest as well as the one on simhq on the FM issue. I have tried Hellshades mod to the xfm and also the stock xfm from WOFF. I flew both in QC with the DV against 2 Pups and recorded video of the performance. The video of the Hellshade xfm is up on that site and the video of the stock xfm is currently uploading to YouTube and will be posted in that thread shortly. Once that upload completes I will log back in here and post both of them here for your perusal. Keep in mind I am a newbie flyer of the DV so please don't look for Hellshade's quality. Keep up the investigative work, it can only add to our knowledge base and assessment of things as they are in WOFF. I would like to think that we all have the same POSITIVE interest at heart with respect to WOFF. It is a great sim and can only get better if we are all open minded. Best Regards to all
  14. No empty chairs (book)

    You might be interested in the book "Knight of Germany" by "professor Johannes Werner" originally published in German in 1932. Currently published by Casemate. I purchased it through "The Book Depository" (thebookdepository.com) at the price of $18.85 for hard cover. It's suggested retail price is $29.95 US. I find the Book Depository usually has good prices for new books.
  15. JSGME for WOFF...

    Corsaire's suggestion works for most of the mods. You just have to look at the mods people are creating to see if they are using the proper directory structure and if not, then make the necessary changes to their mods so that they are correctly using the directory structure like Corsaire has shown. Unfortunately not everyone is following the same practice when creating mods so the ownus is on you to check it.
  16. Beanie; So when do you release your "Skin Pack" and what is the cost!!
  17. Where is everybody ?

    Well, if it's anything like me, they are all tuning their WOFF setups and lurking on SIMHQ for tweak advice and latest issue information. Hopefully things will settle down some and we can all get back to spending more time on CA! Best Regards;

  22. Time Warp?

    Hey Olham; as Dr Frank-N-Furter said::...Let's do the time warp again!!! IMHO, 16x timewarp and autopilot will get you there rather quickly and is a reasonable replacement for the old OFF Warp.
