A question about the MF weapons pack...
Rampstrike replied to Rampstrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Sorry, Dave. It's late, I'm tired, and I just got my ass kicked in FIFA '08 on the Playstation. I need to go to bed. No harm intended... -Ramp -
A question about the MF weapons pack...
Rampstrike replied to Rampstrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
<sigh> Sorry, Dave, I forgot... the MF makes no mistakes, nor do they release anything that everyone doesn't instantly fall in love with. I am obviously mistaken. Back to the vanilla install it is... Thanks guys. -
WOI - System requirements... Should I bother?
Rampstrike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Just a question... I really want WOI, as I have, play, and absolutely love all of the previous titles in this series, but after reading about the sytem requirements and the framerate hits, I just wanted to ask everyone's opinion. My system is an HP Pavillion zd8000 laptop: P4 2.8, 768MB RAM, ATI X600 128M Graphics, Windows XP. I can play all of the previous TW titles just fine, with grahics settings on High and in 1440x900 widescreen. I only notice slowdowns when flying near lots of active ground units and/or in areas with LOTS of air activity going on. WOV used to bring it down to a slideshow with all of the SAMs over Hanoi, but I used the mod to cut down on the SAM activity and now all is fine again. So, in your expert opinion(s), will I be able to play WOI with decent graphics settings and without droppig down to single-digit framerates, or should I just wait until I can afford an upgrade? Thanks for any (constructive!) input... Cheers, Ramp -
Interesting topic! I am still just a wannabe... but I have come 'close' over the years. In the Marines I was an AO/Gunner on CH-53D's for about 6 months, but only got on to a few flights. I went through the training to get a backseat ride in an F/A-18, but never got to take the ride (though I did get to fly the simulator for an hour, and landed it on a virtual carrier). I spent about 8 hours in the CH-53 simulator. Just a few months ago, I got to fly a Cessna 402 over the Outer Banks for a few hours, and the pilot even let me land it at Elizbeth City USCGB. That was pretty cool. I still get to go up from time to time with our pilots (I'm an avionics tech for a small air freight company), and some of them give me some stick time, but mostly I'm under the panel hooking up wires and swapping instruments, which isn't nearly as fun. Perhaps I'll get my pilot license as a mid-life crisis present to myself (it's coming up fast), so I hope I have the money by then... :) Cheers! Ramp

Any interest?

Absolutely! Didn't you do a version for the default WOE F-15 as well? Thanks! -Ramp -
Cat shots ripping the main gear off of my Crud...
Rampstrike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm talking about the 'original' F-8E Crusader - not the newest bells and whistles one, and not the WOV one... you know, the first one that was released on C5's site a long time ago. Anyway, I just recently modded my SF:P1 (SP4) Burning Sands campaign to add the USS Forrestal on Echo Station with an A-4 and F-8E squadron on board. All works well in the campaign (thanks to the well-written tutorial here on CA!), save the problem mentioned in my topic. My main gear rips off on the cat shot, 100% of the time, even with the autopilot taking off for me, or no matter what I do or don't do with the stick during takeoff. I tried looking through the .ini for the Crusader, but I didn't see anything that was obviously related to the structural strength of the landing gear. I also checked the knowledge database here, but didn't see anything, so I guess this isn't a common problem. Any ideas? Thanks, Rampstrike -
Cat shots ripping the main gear off of my Crud...
Rampstrike replied to Rampstrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks for the helpful input guys... Dave... Dave... Yes, I do like the latest and greatest MF Crusaders, but truth be told, my lowly laptop takes a noticeable frame rate hit when I use them, and I don't really use all the bells and whistles (opening canopy, folding wings, etc...) so that's why I stuck with the 'obsolete' version. Not to mention, I had gone through the trouble of altering the skin from the VF-111 'D' model to work with the 'E' version (so VF-111 could acually do strike missions before getting re-assigned to their F-4B's), and I didn't want to go throught the hassle again. Not to bag on the newest Cruds at all... they're gorgeous, and I have them, but it's just a personal preference thing. As for my original problem, I checked in the .ini for the carrier (Forrestal), and the cat lauch times were all set to 2.0, so I'm not sure what the problem was. I fixed the issue by porting in the Coral Sea from my OTC install, and now it all works like a charm. Thanks again for the helpful suggetions, guys! Cheers, Ramp -
Actually, if I may interject (and sorry to derail your Holy Grail joke, Dave, which I liked BTW), here's how I saw the whole head-through-the-portal thing... If you watch closely. ONLY the terminator's head came through the time warp, as it was blown off of the rest of the body at the precise moment the machine fired, and only the head came forward into the "time sphere" with the other three (the two Connors and the she-terminator), presumably with enough flesh still on it to allow it to transport. The rest of the terminator's skeleton remained in the wreckage of the bank, where it remained in the scrap heap for the 8 years that the head "warped" forward, so when the head re-activated, it summoned it's dormant body from the scrap heap wherever the wreckage of the bank had been dumped. Makes sense, right? Cheers, Ramp

My question is in the topic. I have F4:AF, but I don't play it because I do my simming on a laptop using 1440x900, and the game looked 'squished' when I loaded it and tried it out. Have any patches or mods come out in the last couple of years to allow for widescreen use? Thanks for any help in advance! Cheers, Ramp

I would really appreciate it is someone could take this F-15 skin: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...mp;showfile=453 ...and convert it so that it would work on the default WOE F-15A model. Could someone with the appropriate skills (and hopefully some spare time) do this? I don't have the knowledge or programs to attempt it myself... Please? Thanks, Ramp

AAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! :cray: I hope everyone else has a good season. At least I have DC United to pull for still... Cheers, Ramp

Oh yeah? Well, here's what I have to say to that! ... That said, I can now look forward to next weekend, when we will see who the biggest losers in Div 1A are: my (still) beloved Wolverines or the Flailing Irish... Go D.C. United!! Cheers, Ramp

I think we're all missing the point of his post here... and that is that EA needs to bring back Mutant League Football!!! Possibly the greatest football game ever. My best friend in the Corps and I spent countless off-duty hours (and some on-duty!) playing this game. How fondly I remember calling the "Bribe the Ref" play and seeing my opponent flagged for "Flatulence." Or the pure joy of tossing dynamite at the band during half time and high-fiving when we completely wiped them out. Or the wondrous sight of the ball carrier getting blown to bits as he stepped on a mine after juking around the defensive end. Or the scream of a player who got knocked off of the field (when we played on an asteroid) as he drifted off into oblivion. I still laugh when I recall the game that I was beating my buddy 42-7 only to lose with :04 seconds on the clock because he killed my last player. What a great game...

I'd have to agree, Dagger! Mine came up the Corps as well. Go figure... I was in the Corps! Though, in all honesty, I did like Top Gun back when I was in high school... Cheers, Ramp

I care... Actually, I'm a big Man United fan (yeah, I know... join the crowd), but I was happy to see West Ham beat relegation. Of course, I would have been a lot more concerned about the outcome of that game had the title not already been won. I must admit, I am a late comer to the fantastic game that is known round the world as football. I'm basically a Man United fan only because they were the first team I ever heard of (and only as recently as the Beckham/Treble days, of course), but I have really become somewhat of a fanatic of the sport, and the Premiership in particular (thank heavens for the Fox Soccer Channel!). I am also a big fan of the MLS, and hope that the league here continues to grow and produce better players, as well as draw talent from around the world like the other top leagues do. We've got a ways to go, but I think the future is bright for American soccer. Now, if only my other beloved United - D.C. - can get their heads out of their butts and start winning some games... Long story short, congrats on your team earning another season in the Premiership! Cheers, Ramp

Anyone interested in Yukikaze aircraft?
Rampstrike replied to Shin_kazama's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Don't know if anyone is taking this Yukikaze addition seriously (I really hope someone is!), but I found this: http://www.3d02.com/html_3d_Model/3d_model_main.asp?id=5183# If I'm not mistaken, it's a complete 3D model of one of the planes already made, in a couple of different formats. Is it possible for someone to import one of the formats into SF/WOV/WOE? Giving it the FM from the aircraft in the movie may be another thing altogether... ;) Just curious... Cheers, Ramp -
A skin(s) request, if that is allowable...
Rampstrike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Just wondering if anyone could do a couple of more modern skins for the default WOE F-15A. This is my favorite version of the Eagle to fly, but I haven't been able to find any later skins for it, i.e. ones with the newer subdued grey national insignias, gray canopy frame (as opposed to red), and slightly darker color schemes. If there are already some out there done for the default WOE model, please point me in the right direction. If not, is there anyone with the talent willing to do a couple? And since I'm asking, my faves are the 44th TFS, 18th TFW out of Kadena AFB, circa mid-90's (yes, I know they fly the C-model), the 71st out of Langley, and the 54th out of Elmendorf. Thanks in advance! Ramp -
A skin(s) request, if that is allowable...
Rampstrike replied to Rampstrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Okay, maybe asking for new skins on the stock F-15A is asking too much. But can someone at least tell me how to change the national insignia on the stock skin to a low-vis version? Keep in mind, I don't have Photoshop or any other editing program besides the cheap "Paint" program that comes with Windows. Anyone? Please... Thanks in advance. Cheers, Ramp -
F-15A (and others) loadout wierdness... Help!
Rampstrike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Okay, I just don't get it. 2 days ago I d/l'd and installed the F-15A addon from this site, along with the new F-15A cockpit. I loaded up a single mission and went for a spin, arming my Eagle with AIM-9Ls and AIM-7Fs, along with some external tanks. All worked wonderfully! I then decided to d/l a bunch of other addon aricraft to give it some contemporaries, which I did, and now I notice that when I go in to fly the F-15A, the loadout menu has completely changed! I can no longer select AIM-9Ls or AIM-7Fs (though older versions of these missiles are available), and there are no external tanks of ANY sort available. Also, there are about 15 different bomb/gun pod/rocket pods available, which I know for a fact that the F-15 never carried. I double checked the F-15A loadout.ini file and all seems in order. I then tried looking at several of the other addon airplanes and noticed similar results. Although loadouts did vary, none of them seemed to be correct for the selected plane. It's almost like the game for some reason isn't bothering to read the specific aircraft's loadout.ini file and is just assigning some sort of default. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Rampstrike -
Any campaign editing experts out there?...
Rampstrike posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Greetings, gents! With the release of the new F-15A cockpit (simply fantastic, I must add!), I am wanting to make a "Burning Sands 1977" campaign. What I plan on doing is simply updating the aircraft from the base campaign so that they fit the new year (example, USAF units will be F-4E and F-15A, USN will be in their F-4J's and F-14As, Paranis will be flying MiG-21, MiG-23s, Su-17s, etc...). I don't think I'll have too much trouble with this, as I've changed aircraft/squadrons in the default campaign before. My question is this: How do I change the timeframe of the campaign itself? More specifically, what controls the dates that missions are generated? I want to make the campaign take place over several months, not several years like the default campaign does. In my current Burning Sands campaign, I fly only one or two combat missions a year (Started in early 1962, now in late 1964, and I've only flown 4 missions)! How do I increase the sortie rate? If I wanted the campaign to start in April of 1977 and go through February 1978, what file(s) would I need to edit and how do I do it? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Rampstrike -

MK2, I just installed the latest weapons pack over my lunch break to fix another problem (see F-15A weirdness post), which it did, so I'll give the campaign_data.ini another go tonight and let you know if that did the trick there as well... Thanks for all the help so far! Cheers, Ramp -

Rampstrike replied to Rampstrike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hmmm.... That's pretty much what I did. I went to every aircraft's loadout.ini file and copied and pasted the weapon name into each aircraft's corresponding unit entry in the campaign.ini file in the format that you showed (and which was already present). Still no weapons available in the loadout screen. Something fishy going on, I guess.... Anything else to try? Thanks, Rampstrike
