Hello fellow pilots! As maybe you remember, I am a newbie in this sim. Therefor my pilots died even before their few claims been accepted. But not anymore!! My latest lad, Herr Erich Mainfeld from Frankfurt, who joined Jasta 2 at 16 September 1916 at Bertincourt, flying with an Albatros DI, achieved 7 confirmed victories and got distinguished with a very beautiful Iron Cross!!! I must admitt he´s a little white feathered chicken, got all his victories over FE2b and BE2c but still they count! Avoided successfully any flak or furball, stayed away from troubles but he´s alive after all his adventures and with a medal! So proud of Herr Mainfeld! Let me make a toast for this fellow, hip hip!!! itifonhom.

Thanks for the wishes guys!! Really appreciate it! BTW, got a quick question but find it pitty to open a new topic only for this: Anybody knows how can I be promoted? Medals need victories, I know that by know but what about promotions? Herr Mainfeld has now 10 missions, 9 victories and a white feathered Albatros!! ;-) itifonhom

To be honest, I wouldn't!!! And to be fully honest, I wouldn't take a flight in a BE2c even in peacetime with good weather! Whoever did this for rear had what the Spanish call "cohones gigantescos"! And the fotos that flynn posted are just wonderful, what a lucky guy to have a grandfather like this! itifonhom

I'd like to see all the early Allied aircrafts, Parasols and the rest. Gothas too for sure but I find this early Era quite exciting, like Garros vs Udet! I'll be happy with whatever comes, I'm happy now with P3! itifonhom

I will stay focused!!! I promise!!! BTW, Herr Mainfeld survived another mission and downed another BE2c, poor guys these BE2c pilots, had no chance really but still they flew! Quite amazing that someone actually did it for real!!! People had real guts those days! itifonhom

Doing the 'It's on its way' dance.

Welcome on board, I'm sure you're going to have a hard time believing what you experience with this sim! You made the correct decision for sure, see you over Flanders fields!! itifonhom -
Thanks everybody for the good words and advice! I know what you mean, my best pilots died so unexpected exactly when I thought they are almost invincible. But that makes the sim even more immersing. Today, during an artillery spotting mission, being above the No Mans Land and receiving flak, I felt my heart beating quick and really got scared everything's going to end in a fireball!!! But survived the 8th mission. I wonder what my reaction would be if I see a bunch of fighters coming towards me! itifonhom

I'm a newbie too and I suck! But I learn! This sim has nothing to do with getting into a plane and fight. It's about surviving! Be selective and patient. Choose your opponent and try to let nobody to choose you. If you feel unsure or threatened just run! It's not a shame, you will come another day. Try to get lonely two seaters and avoid furballs. My rule of thumb lately is: Medals are decorated with white feathers!!! itifonhom

That's exactly what happened!! The Ring, my precious!! For ze Kaizer!!! Go on Hobbits, itifonhom
-
Well done Herr HouseHobbit, pilots like you is exactly what the Kaiser needs! Keep up and watch your six, in this sim things end quite abruptly! For ze Faterland!! itifonhom

This thread is so immersive! You really know how to live your adventures! That's with the music is a nice idea. I even thought of putting a fan in front of me to simulate the wind, if it smelled like benzin would be far better! Keep on your reports...... itifonhom -
Hey guys, after some missions in mid '15, I enlisted a new pilot with Jasta 11 in June '16. Flown 4 missions already, three of them with enemy contact. First found two pushers patroling, got their six without get noticed, pushed the trigger and after two seconds got a jam! Newbie!! Lived to get another mission, met some bombers, rear gunner hit my right wing but managed to land. Next mission found some bombers again, reached them from six bellow, opened fire, they returned fire, right elevator and engine damaged seriously and had to glide back to base ( wasn't that far!). I still got the Eindecker and the life at the Front seems to be hard! What a wonderful simulation!!! By the way, makes a difference if a mission ends "successful" or not? Is it of some importance to get all the waypoints and get home alive or it's better to get into the action with the risk of landing somewhere in the Front (better at our side)? I already love this game!!! itifonhom

I'm a proud member of the Masochist Club!! And I buy another round!! As I see, there's a lot to learn here and this Forum feels really like the local pub, full with friendly comrades willing to share their battle experience. Amazing!! itifonhom

Hi again! Unfortunately it's over! My fifth mission, enemy air raid over our base, just after take off got shot and although I thought I could crash land, hit harder than I should and my kameraden cried for me!! Already started at Spring '17 with Jasta 8 and Albatros DII. Two machine guns are really better for my poor shooting. Still haven't managed to shoot anything down in Campaign but I will! This sim is exactly as it should be, hard. I play with settings 140 DiD and I love it!!! Thanks for all your tipps, it's a wonderful community here, glad to find you guys!! itifonhom

I think you are fully right, I agree 100% with you! On my last mission, given the mistakes I made on my other missions, just when I made my way behind their six hidden below them, I really felt my heart pumping quicker and quicker and my hands sweating. I can't remember any other sim to have that effect to me. Thanks for your feedback uncleal and Rickitycrate, I really feel lucky that my pilot is still alive after the last mission. BTW, are the chlor gas clouds some lightly green tinted "clouds" at no mans land? If yes, I already saw them. This battlefield looks terrible, even in a sim. Some 12 years ago, had the experience to visit the Imperial War Museum at London. The Trenches experience is something I still remember like it was yesterday and something I wouldn't want to live for real. itifonhom

Hi everybody, at last today I got the OFF, installed it, patched it, started it and I just wondered!!! Why I didn´t got me this sime long long ago? I don´t know!! Everything´s just fantastic! Thanks guys, whoever made this is a genius!!!! Thanks a lot! I configured Freetrack too but it´s still a bit shaky and I think I got to get used to it too. I use also pedals, actually part of a Logitech Driving wheel but the ingame rudder is reversed, no matter what I tried. Is there any way to reverse it to normal? Thanks in advance for any help, Anastasios.

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback! I'm sure I'm gonna bite the dust when the first enemy gets at my six. After two missions at mid '15 never saw any enemy aircrafts (lucky). I'm not even good enough to get through the first dogfight, I don't even dream of making it through the war. In this perspective maybe even white feathers look good!! For the fatherland!!! itifonhom
-
Hey guys, please tell me, is it possible, even only theoretically, to bring just one pilot through the whole war? My very first campaign pilot started in '15, not too much action but I use the time to get my grips with sim and planes. Just wondering how much he can take! itifonhom
-
Thanks a lot all of you guys, very warm welcome indeed!! Thanks for the tipp about the pedals Polovski, I'm gonna try it first thing tomorrow! Hey Rickitycrate and 77Scout, tonight, while landing after my very first campaign mission, I was thinking my brakes aren't working anymore!! I'm afraid I'm too used at Airbus and Boeing autobrakes and autolandings!!! British_eh. I was just lucky to have a system already working for FSX, so didn't really bought anything. Freetrack was just 20 euros expensive and that only because I failed the first time. Nice to be here, itifonhom
-
I got a Logitech Driving Force wheel with pedals. I used the pedals for IL2 and still use them for FSX successfully. I got them as combined at the Logitech calibration utility. In FSX I can reverse them but there's no such option in CFS3 or OFF. As far as I can understand, any USB wheel/pedals combo will do the job, got just to assign the axis to the rudder axis. The only drawback is, there are no integraded brakes this way but I don't care, I'm on a budget too (that's why I got Freetrack and not TrackIR). itifonhom
-
Thanks Olham, kind of you. Yes, you got it right!! itifonhom
-
My experience to the moment is just awesome, only, coming from IL2 and FSX I'm a bit of confused by the underpowered aircrafts!! But it's still great and difficult! Full DiD of course. I just reconfigured Freetrack to work with one LED instead of four and it's quite smooth now. Only the problem with the rudder remains and it's all perfect!! Thanks guys!

Oooohhhh man, I'm so envy of you!!! Great news indeed, I'm still waiting for my copy, hopefully some time next week. I really can't wait to get to the skies over Flanders. Take care and blue skies mate, itifonhom

Thinking of Buying Over Flanders Field
itifonhom replied to outfctrl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks for this thread and feedback, I am also persuaded to buy OFF, can't wait to try it! itifonhom -
Hi everybody, I'm really new here, actually my very first post. To be really honest, I started looking for a WWI simulation after I've heard about Rise of Flight. But from what I've read to this point, I think that OFF is far better than RoF at the time being and I really want to get it. But first I'd like to be sure that I can run it. I got German Windows XP and maybe I'll get CFS3 in German version too, if there is such thing. My rig is good enough to run FSX quite good but I just fear there would be problems with German OS and CFS3. Anybody has a good advice? Many thanks, itifonhom
