  1. HITR First Impressions

Just got the add-on today Thanks OBD for making this a download and easy-peasy to install. Got some test flying in this afternoon and really like the wind effects and the engine sounds. Have you changed the MG sound files? The twin spandaus on my AlbD2 sound exactly the same as a single Vickers (Spad VII) and sound more like a muted WWII movie mg than what you had before. Thats the only issue I have, otherwise excellent stuff. Thanks for all the effort!
  2. Very cool, VG. Thank you! The models look pretty cool-- any idea if they can be repainted without losing much detail? I've got a boatload of GW paint, art acrylics, washes etc that are itching to be used up =)
  3. Thanks Olham! Pretty sure my local gaming store has the Wings of War bits, so I may just go that route for the models.
  4. Lovely stuff! Was thinking of looking for some miniature WWI aircraft for wargaming purposes-- adapting the venerable Richtofen's War (Avalon Hill) rules to a table top might be a fun winter project. Anyone know of any smaller than 1:144 scale?
  5. ...and lots of Jaegermeister, schnapps, cognac, not so much champagne Welcome!
  6. Well done, and welcome to a ton of fun! My main campaign pilot lived through a nightmare today, so he'll buy a round
  7. I've been intrigued by the theory of DiD for quite some time, so when I noticed it was an accepted idea here, for OFF, I jumped in. An old friend of mine first mentioned DiD to me back in 2002 where he was just finishing playing Bioware's 'NeverWinter Nights' where he was playing on a 'persistent world' server that was set for DiD. When his character finally died, he had the notoriety of having the longest surviving active player-character on that server. To me that showed a lot of skill, and he really had enjoyed his playtime there because of all the extras most people take for granted/don't seem to care about in MMOs or CRPGs (extras like the absolute need for care, for tactics and strategy, for actually thinking, preparation, and not just button mashing et al.) where insta-spawn is king. I found all of that very interesting, and a unique way of enjoying a game. I'm currently enjoying Bioware's newest CRPG, Dragon Age: Origins using basic DiD ideals, and I'm on my fifth player-character with the death ratio falling as I push away the arcade-style FRP play and remind myself that, yes, friendly fire is BAD...
  8. RFC uniform on a budget!

Nicely done, Stiffy. Instead of leather boots you might consider making some puttees. Leather coat won't be easy, but if there are any charity shops near the University you might check them out regularly-- its amazing what people will donate, everything from crap to real haute-cuture. I've a good m8 who volunteers some time in one such shop up in the Bolton area, I can ask him to keep an eye out if you like.
  9. Nice one!

Nice idea, SRC. I'm not a face-booker tbh, but think its nice for those who are
  10. Attn all DiD pilots.

I too am really enjoying this campaign, so I add my thanks too When I transferred over to fighters, I just restarted Rolf rather than fudge around with the ingame log (too afraid of mucking it up). I'm assuming when Rolf croaks (matter of time I'm sure) that my new pilot will start at zero hours, no medals etc which is as it should be imo.
  11. New guy looking for OFF ?

Heya Daver, welcome m8. This is a great time-machine, is a blast to fly, and has lots of variable settings so you can tailor the sim to your tastes. Bonus to the game is this community which really adds a lot to game play, from screenshots, to after action reports, tales of daring and not-so daring, historical stuff of interest etc. Well worth the time and money invested
  12. Condolensces, Pacman Lost a bunch of pilots myself, most of mine don't make it to the 17 hour life expectancy mark, but its sure as hell fun trying! Absent friends,
  13. OK - I'm confused

Hi CW, pretty sure Siggi still wants us to email him hours/claims etc. so he can keep the board updated with the progress.
  14. First Campaign

Yup...very first pilot died after less than five minutes. Scramble with Nieuport 17s already diving on us (me fiddling with engine start and why I don't play with engine management anymore), taxi over the grass, lift off, hear the whine of a 17 and here takka takka takka, see flame from engine, ground rushing up and then the mercy screen 'You have died'. Probably close to three minutes maybe? But I perservered. LOVE this sim. mmMMmmm Jaegermeister....fine beverage.
  15. Nicely done, Von Guber! My bombs all missed apparently... 0% accuracy lol.
  16. Total Time Operational 5.47 hours
  17. OFF Questions

I flew over some cavalry not that long ago while campaigning in 1916. I've also strafed columns of infantry along the road ways, and have been riddled by ground fire. Another awsome aspect of the game is you have a myriad of settings you can select variances from to establish your own level of immersion. Right now, quite a few of us have immersed ourselves in a special DiD (Dead is Dead) campaign, organised by Siggi, flying one real day= one game day (we've started on 29 October 2009, and in game we're historical campaigning starting on 29 October 1916). Check out the thread if you are interested in immersion. Oh, and welcome!
  18. Staffelfuhrer, I am ready to head out, Sir. <salutes before dashing off to his warmed up machine> Preflight checks done, Feldwebel Schmidt ready in the crew compartment, parabellum ready...spandau ready...map open this time...engine purring, throttle up slightly, wave chocs away...quick salute to the ground crew before pulling the goggles down and grinning....throttle up.....bounce bounce and awaaaaay.
  19. I can't seem to get a grip on the FF MG's fall of shot either, Olham. Its ok though, I plan on avoiding as much trouble as I can and hopefully ease my way through the first 17 hours. On the 'scrambles' my roleplay thinking is that we've had the warning from the Flugmeldienst and the Hauptman has ordered us to 'Get them up! Get them to safety!!" so I'll fly low to the neighbouring aerodrome if its the blasted French N17s or just fly away and up if its the FEs and BE2s of the RFC-- if you suspect bombers you could 'milk' the flight time a bit, but if you suspect scouts I'd advise taking off and landing a.s.a.p to ensure survival. Might sound a bit...cheesey...but its not the role of these two-seaters to defend the field, and it gives the local airdefence lads a right good bit of practice.
  20. LOL, good thread- thanks!
  21. Whats the music for this game?

I agree, fabulous piece and certainly achieves the goals and invokes thought too as one gets ready to meet the skies.
  22. AHH Fraps

If you go to your log book, hit printscreen (its like 'copy'). Then go to a graphics program, like 'paint', or Microsoft Picture It, right clic in the picture editor and select paste. The picture of your log will show up there, or in your pictures file. Then you can edit the size for posting etc.
  23. Hiya rwmarth! One thing I try to do consistently is go for altitude--- altitude is life. Often times you can fly up and above the low ground obscuring clouds and still be assured of action. I usually try for greater than 10000 feet, up to operational ceiling for whichever machine I'm flying. I'd also suggest utilizing the clouds as cover, however I'm unsure if the AI 'see' through the clouds, but so far its worked for me. Best of luck!
  24. DiD Logbook.

Thanks Dej and Siggi. I'll sort something out, maybe I can send stuff to Olham if he wants to keep a FleigerAbteilung/Jasta diary
