I was reading what I could find on the sight about the Nieuport11
Roger55 replied to Roger55's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Half loop down. Roll onto your back pull the stick back hard and when you clear the vertical level off full throttle. That's an escape move and you loose any altitude advantage, so run like hell. It's also dangerous because its easy to fly into the ground. That I've done twice. Did it right once. Half loop up. Nose down ,Yank the stick back clear the vertical and when you see the ground above roll over. 30% of the time you catch the guy who turned inside or did an Immalman on you below and ahead of you. When you get near the top of the climb that Nieuport seems to fall off in the direction of the torque. -
That tears it. 45% I managed to get downloaded and the Internet Explorer decides that it has to block part of the stream as a security risk and takes a chunk out of the data stream. My downlad manager can't reconnect and all I can do is start over. Six hours tying up the phone line for NOTHING. Is there any kind soul out there in the USA who can send me a disk with the 188MB OFF1.32 patch on it. If there is PM me and we can arrange the details. I would appreciate it.

Started with and Escadrille Near Verdun 1916
Roger55 replied to Roger55's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My map of the Verdun area is too detailed for the settings I am using in OFF. It has every trench , "Work" (the small forts), and Fort along with roads, villiages, woods, and trails. There used to be a Verdun Web Page in German. More information than I could ever absorb. That's where I found the link to the French office of Tourism in town who sent me to the shop's website where I purchased this map. Big Euros to have it sent. Horne's _The Price of Glory_ is still the standard work in English. Tsk Tsk. -

Started with and Escadrille Near Verdun 1916

Wow. I sure do type slow. All those messages before I posted mine. Anyway there appear to be no skins for the 69 Escadrille in 1916 including it's ace and a couple of historical pilots. If that's the case this is just a nuisance. All the messages contain variations with this suffix: OFF_NieuportN_11-Esc69 1916.dds. Since they are Bebe's flying over Verdun in 1916 I can imagine that info is very hard to find. The stock skin is fine. If these informational messages can be turned off I would like to know how because I see nothing in workshop. Remember I just got the box. So that's version 1.0. I couldn't get a "real" Map of the area until I could buy one off of a website for a shop in the city itself Back to down loading . -
Started with and Escadrille Near Verdun 1916

After 6 hrs I have 41% of the 1.32 patch downloaded. After about an hour the the 5600 bytes/second speed starts to drop. I could get the whole thing down in 5 hrs if the download speed would just hold. Anyway, I must not be leading enough in the deflection shots. I sure am aiming for the pilot and engine. It's easier to learn when the tracer is every two and brighter. About damage models I know some old ones with definite hot spots in the cockpit and engine. That's why I started out aiming at the pilot. I wish someone had an idea about these error messages because, in my experience, such things are usually the result of an incorrect setting by the user, ME. It's usually something obvious. -
I spent most of last night and this morning seperating a modded version of CFS3 from a vanilla install. Then I tried ETO and MAW. I know I preserved the Vanilla install because I uninstalled it, everything eles worked and then reinstalled 3.1a. But I got ETO wrong the first time. I had to rebuild the modded version before I got it right as a seperate install. ("print up the read me"--no printer chum). So how is tha install for OFF. That's the real question! It's coming from England, right? I paid through some Dutch firm and I'm waiting for mail from England?

If you got old disks from like six years ago. You load. You patch to 3.1. And then add a, a really tiny fix.

Not with a 56 k modem on dial up. This is going to take awhile . Pesky Albatrosses want to fight in the trees. Not a good place to "land". Set the flight model a little harder. And turned up the sliders to 4 2 2 2 2. That had the frame rate down to 19 with 4 planes in the summer. CPU temp up to 58 C. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to spring for a new CPU. This ones just at the edge.

The moment I posted the message above, the mail came. And to my surprise there was OFF. Hit the exe file on the disk and went off to eat lunch. So I started by seting all the settings as low as I could go in workshop. My throttle was loaded and my pedals and "I didn't do nothing." I need to set the sound down lower, it's enough to wake the dead. So I take this Spad 7 up and fly like a crazy man. Granted I was out there alone in free flight but I pulled every combat manuver I could remember using. Controls are as stiff as I remember. Anyway I shut her down and checked the CPU temp: 54 C. Same as with MSFS 2004. That CPU doesn't turn on the fan till it gets to 73 C. Frame rates from 19-45. No stutter yet. That was with nothing turned off that runs in the background Processor: Intel Celeron E1400 2Ghz dual core. Card: Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS 512 MB MB: Intel DQ35JOE E stands foe "executive. Chip set: Intel Q35 Sidewinder, Throttle Quadrant, Pro Pedals. Now to get shot down.

I remember the Spad. The one in ol'RB and the one I have for FS2004. I suspect it is the least hinkey WWI plane. I have models of the Spad in 1/48 both 7s and 13s. I have Books and articles about the Spad. The Spad won't stand on it's wingtip like the Spit. But it will do a half roll inside and an outside if your high enough. And it's a steady gun platform when you need it. I was ready a thread about game immersion and I remembered the Spad.

I don't know? The stuff I bought and rejected is stored in boxes and drawers all over the place. I put things where I'll remember where they are, and they just go off somewhere else on their own.

The Spad in the picture is about 8 out of 10 in complexity for FS 2004. The Frame rate you can see is is 70 locked at 75. In the 3D cockpit she runs at 50 or so. This is why I question the need for a new CPU. MSFS is a hog of CPU time and Memory. But you guys know this sim and I don't. Now about NY to Paris. The trick with the Spirit is to keep taking off with more and more gas. The control is a big problem because they used the Standard Ryan Wing and tail and their control surfaces. Lindy was trying to beat Byrd's takeoff date so he would not allow the Ryan engineer to redesign anything. You have to get used to those sluggish controls made almost impossible by all that weight. The only way I could do it was to fly from the outside because that cockpit is idiotic. The plane drifts with the torque and has no trim. Your hand is on the stick the whole way. The earth inductor compass is really hard to use to help you correct. It's easier to watch the plane and the sim's heading indicator outside the cockpit. The stick needs constant adjustment and you have to pause to work the cramp out of you hand every hour or so. Those Comets are taking off into a storm at night if you use the race flight. That means practicing with the worst weather you can set. I always start practice at Edwards. You can get a B36 off of that runway. It's a good place to make your mistakes. Listen to me. This is what happens when you fly mail routes in winter weather from NY to Chicago in a DH with nothing but a road map . You get crazy . This is the OFF site Roger55. You discuss OFF here. I'm glad to hear that you can at least turn With a DH7 in a Spad. That has been my experience in the olden days. But don't mess with a Flying Razor.

A little Better view if you don't recognize her.

This is my latest Spad.

Low speed manuverability? like the DR1 and the Bebe. Or the Sopwith Pup. I hope there is a free flight mode. I need to find out when a dive will put the plane into the ground or when the wings come off, how she turns, WHAT WILL STALL HER , and the gravity model for bullet flight. The Spad's aerlerons always made her stiff to fly and the rudder is a little small. That's I think why she's not a turner. She's more a dive and climb half looper, and a steady gun platform (that's why Fonc the sharp shooter loved her). Can't have any alchohol at all . Want some Lutheran wine i.e grape juice with carbonated water about 50/50 . Or maybe a Methodist Screw Driver i.e. Orange Juice with carbonated water 50/50. It's got a real kick .

Pleased to meet you you and all the other gentlemen. I just got a new computer. The old HP Compac "Horror's" motherboard was covered with capacitors leaking dialectic. I thought I could update some of my stuff because for the first time Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 ran at frame rates above 20, far above 20. I've been on another thread hearing what many a member here has had to say about the inadequacy of my Celeron E1400 2GHz CPU and my Ge Force 8400gs 512 MB Video card. So all my experience with OFF so far has been searching for compatible CPUs that my computer tech (time is money) can quickly plug into my mother board. Check the Bios version, check the socket, check the board, read all the stuff on the Intel site. So, I haven't looked around at screen shots or done much searching here yet. Anyhow I've had flight sims since DOS. And though my reactions have slowed and AI's are tougher, if I can start with a turned down flight model and extra ammo I can usually work my way up. I have a Sidewinder(XP recognizes it), some Pro Peddals (XP sees those), and a Throttle Quadrant (XP sees those). I like the Throttle best because I can use my left hand to throttle down and not have to reach across the keyboard. That reach usually causes fighting at full throttle all the time with the resulting reduction in the accuracy of deflection shots (I got Priller once with a deflection shot from 500 yards out-I set my convergence zone out not in on Spits). I was born the very day the UN troops stopped retreating and stabilized the Pusan Perimeter in Korea. My greatest sim achievement was to fly the Atlantic in the Spirit of St Louis, one of the most unstable AC ever built. It took me 34 hours and my dead recconing put me south of Ireland by 40 miles but I ccould see the coast, worse than Linberg. Sorry, I don't drink beer any more. Want some V-8? That's my story and I'm sticking to it. HI

Frank Luke was born in the state in which I live. The university that I went to had a collection of his photos and some family papers. We use to have a museum in this city out at Falcon Field. They had a large collections of replicas and some restored WWI AC. The Spad was a beauty. Whoever built the replica did an outstanding job. The DR1 was from the movie The Blue Max. It was so-so. The museum was featured in Over the Front. But they couldn't make a go of it and the collection went to Seattle. There's an USAAF Air Base here named after Luke. The Spads I have are both French. Storks you see. Yes, I thought I had pissed someone off . The Photo is from a movie called: The Garden of Evil. The tag at the end of my posts is Gary Coopers Last line in the film. My girlfriend in highschool thought I smiled like Widmark.

I will be a new OFF pilot when the progam arrives. I'm an old many sims pilot who faced many an AI. If your making up a map for OLP I have dial up. There was a thread that drifted off into game immersion so I thought this thread would be OK. I thought someone would say something about the Spad in OFF If the higher ups want to remove this thread no beef from me. By the way why In wrote half roll instead of half loop, I will never fathom.

Hi I joined to ask this question. I saw OFF on the SOH forum and went looking for it. The minimum requirements confuse me. I have a Celeron Dual Core that operates each core at 2GHz. My Computer Tech said that the combined speed was something like 2.6 GHz. Now the dual core requirement is listed at 2.2 GHz. I don't know whether the 512MB Vid card makes any difference. But I am thinking that everything will have to be turned off like I had to do with FS2004 on my old computer. Anyway I'm not sure if I meet the basic requirement. Could someone please give me some insight.

I shpold have written down what the one fellow said about going into a file and modifying the number of planes displayed. Half the thread disappeared???????????????????????????

Hello I emailed the main OFF site and was advised to come to this board and this topic. First my new machine (as opposed to the Horror from HP). The CPU is an Intel Celeron E1400 2GHz dual core. My computer tech said it would run equivalent to a 2.6 GHz single core processor. Memory is as large as I could afford, 2GB. The Vid Card is an MSI NX8400GS 512 MB "Dual Core Cell" that various applications have read as a GeForce. Now, because I read what people say about their flight sims, I see that OFF is supposed to require a 2.2Mhz dual core. Except I was informed that OFF does not use the dual core processor but needs the processor's over all speed. At least I think that's what I am being told. Me I'd just like to know if it will run. On my old machine (Celeron 2.5 GHz, 2GB, a 252 MB Radeon 9250 with a PCI bus) the most complex planes for FS2004 had trouble exceding 10fps. Now they run at 30-50fps. The stock planes ran at 20 + now they run at 75 or so. CFS3 was better by maybe 10-15%. I haven't understood much about computer structure since DOS and the 386SX. So I don't one CPU from another. And dual core as far as I now is two CPUs linked and working in tandem. I've been told in effect "you pay your money and takes your chances." Not a very encouraging answer. So if there is any collective experience out there that might help me decide, I'd appreciate hearing it. Not too jargony though, I don't know much about vid cards or CPUs I just know you need quick switching and Memory for cache. Of course I may be wrong about that.
-
Don't need to bring it back. The 386SX is still sitting in the cabinet. Two 40mb Seagates and slots for a 3.5 and 5.25 floppies. It has 1024 Ram and is in a generic XT box. I converted it one component at a time over about a year (adding memory to the slots in 256 pieces) from the XT starting with the mother board. It runs at 12 MHz Turbo.! I ran AoE on it which wasn't supposed to be possible. Also AoP and RB. My first flight sim was Lucas films BOB. And yup I kept DOS 5.0. That's when you could buy parts at the electronics store and programs had printed manuals. By the way that Computer still runs. Not like the Dell and HP Compaq that burned out their motherboards (cheap capacitors leaking dialectic) and crashed their HDs every 2 years. Never crashed a Seagate built in the USA.

The Intel DQ35JOE Mother board is compatible with the Intel Core2 Duo E7400 2.m Mhz unless Intel's own site is a lying sack of crap. I need to ask the tech about the addition to the suffix "E". Intel fails to explain that. I have confirmed the Motherboard by utility and getting into the box. Both the E1400 Celeron and the E7400 have nearly the same operating temp 73 and 74 degrees C. So there appears no need to get a different fan for the CPU. I have yet to ask the tech what the difference in the figures 65nm and 45nm means. My contingency plan is to buy the new processor if the the one I have now locks which in my experience is the real demonstration of insufficient processing power. I have tolerated many things over the years because software developers and hardware developers play a little marketing game. Like Automobiles they expect you to buy "New" every two years. I do not care if something runs slow. My reaction times were "shot" 20 years ago. Pretty scenery and great effects are not as important as the cockpit and the controlers that can be used. Myy throttles are where my left hand can get to them. My stick is in my right. I have a paid of peddals. I hate reaching across to the stick to adjust the throttle. This puter cost me 1.2 bills and most of that was bench time to load my OS and the other various stuff that needs online updating. I used a Compaq Presario for 5 years. I flew NY to Paris in the crappiest handling AC I have ever messed with, the SoSL at 12Fps with nothing but a world map a watch, and an "add on" real star sky. I recorded my progress with snapper which slowed the frame rate for SimOuthouse. I have been into files in FS2004 changing engine specs and into CS3 changing Convergence ranges. I've rebuilt panels and changed contact points. I'm on afraid of files. If I knew how to change a CPU and had the tool, I'd do it myself. Yes, we shall see. Roger55
