I know this may sound stupid but i want to get up and running fast! can anyone tell me how to turn on mouse look? All the videos ive seen feature a virtual cockpit with free head motion, at the moment i can only get locked views with hat switch.... makes it hard to play, and of course i cant see my guages..

Odds stacked in favour of germany?
Stiffy replied to Stiffy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sorry... but I dont really agree, history shows it wasnt overpowering at all and was shot down in large numbers... It WAS overpowering during the fokker scourge... but not when the DH2, FE2 turned up. By the battle of the Somme the allies had regained air superioirity... because they shot down a lot more planes than Germany did.... I must say i'm really surprised people dont know about the history of the Fokker scourge, stop playing late war, 1916 is facinating! -
Odds stacked in favour of germany?
Stiffy replied to Stiffy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oh I'm not saying the DH2 is great when compared to what replaced it! Couldnt touch a sopwith pup and certainly no match for an Albatross. I'm just stating a well established fact that it was a better plane than an EIII. Faster, more manouverable, should easily out turn an EIII (doesnt in this game) these arent my opinions just based on cold hard statistical fact.... I think people may be letting their love for german aircraft cloud thier judgement a bit? DH2 also famous for having excellent climb rate... seems to strugle in OFF. If people would like some evidence I'm happy to post many, many links.... cant find any to suggest EIII was better though... -
Question to our German Friends

Question to our German Friends
Stiffy replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Ive never heard Dark Side used... is it an amercan term for Germans? Surely a recent thing.... I always like 'Fritz' was a popular term used in WW1 by the british and is fairly non aggressive (after all just a german name) As in... 'Fancy a quick sortie sausage side? Lets give Fritz something to write home about!" Just for the record I have no problem being called 'Englander Schwein Hund'! -
Ok thats great! How are you getting such accurate readings on altitude and time... I dont really want to use a head up display for realism so rely on the visual guages... I assume there must be some leniancy on exact acuracy?... again a real claim form wouldnt want altitude to the foot and time to the exact minute.... As for exact longitude and lattitude of wreckage, i'm sure a pilot wouldnt know that, which is why aprox possition reletive to a landmark would be much more authentic, shame if game doesnt register that though. I didn't realise you could cite multiple witnesses with a comma either. Hopefully I should get some more claims! Thanks for the help!

Game arrived 5 minutes ago, istalling now.... have to say that is an excellent service, just 6 working days to UK. See you in the skies!

surprised that, except for the odd stutter now and again my computer is running the game perfectly at 5 5 5 5 5 in 1400x900 with 2x antialias. only a celeron dual 1.8 running at 1.2! On my third pilot now... fokker scourge is really tough...

Quite simply... without any hesitation... the finest flightsim I have ever played. And easily in the top ten, or maybe five of any type of computer game I have played. Really guys, hats off for the time, effort and clearly also passion you have put into creating this 2nd leiutenant William Thomas, 29th RFC 1916. 3 succesful patrols and one pending claim for a hun 2 seater... off to see if he can make it through the week. Really wasnt sure what info to put in the claims form... I assume the game picks up on keywords? Can anyone tell me if I am going wrong with this (after all an officer would be taught how to fill in a claim!) 11/4/1916 16h36 Flanders St-Omer Airfield Attack Flying: Airco DH2. On this day claims: 1 Roland CII . Shot down at noon near Droglandt at low altitude 12pm 1202 hours. Witnessed by: Jack Milne Status : Pending . Going away this weekend, when i get back will get on to sorting multiplayer.

Ok, website I think says to allow a month.... but I keep hearing very good things about the international shipping times (hearing around a week?). Ordered a week tomorrow so understandibly starting to twitch... CF3 installed and patched... new joystick set up, driving car in flying goggles making a noise like a sopwith pup... (well maybe not that far). So was wondering what other peoples shipping times where like?

Here is a clip from a great film! (Aces High)

I also love the new galactics... and think the original is an awful star wars cash in attempt! :) hows that for controversial?... anyway enough of my dubious tastes back to planes... -

EDIT... when i say planes are spot on, obviously I know they are wrong for the dates.... SE5s instead of DH2s etc, i mean they arent strange post war radial engined planes like aces high or squadrons of red triplanes like Fly Boys... -
yes, its not a mojor problem :) just that 'probably' wont kill him is what would happen in the real world 'definitely' cant kill him only happens in computer games. To my mind red baron got this perfectly. possible to kill if you meet but likely to kill you. also if not killed by player still dies at correct historical time.

I loved The Red Baron. I know its not 100% historical but after watching 'Fly Boys' red baron is practically a factual documentary! I can overlook its flaws because it is at least making an effort to portray the theme if not acurately, then authentically. Probably the first film to get the planes so spot on.... (except for censoring Werner Voss' swastica! how stupid) although i think some of the low level barrel rolls are a little over optimistic. Did anyone ever see this monstrocity? most bizare ww1 film ever.... -
Yes I understand how it works.... just doesnt work for me, seems a little fake. would rather have a game in which the course can be altered slightly by killing an ace than a game that artificially forced an unrealistic result. The effect for me i'm afraid would be to remove a potentially very exiting element of the game... I't would be fantastic to see and ace and think maybe... just maybe i can be the one to kill him (just as many real pilots thought) even though the result would most likely be my death... would make for very thrilling an emersive gameplay. What will in fact happen is i'll see an ace and think, 'theres an ace, he has a magic healing potion, i'll just fly away' completely dropping my out of my total emersion and reminding me i'm in a computer game. Only a minor point though! not enough to put me off the rest of the game! But i'm sure i'm not the only one who has considered it....

The CF3 i have is version 3.0 Can anyone point me towards a working 1.3 patch for cf3? the one on the microsoft site wont install (although english version it pops up an error message in spanish and german!)... the one from gamers hell says its not a valid win32 program... I'm running vista... any issues there?
-
Is there any likelyhood of making an optional setting that you can kill aces? Invincible aces may make the game more historically acurate, but i cant help feeling it would make it less emersive and less realistic... ignoring ace kills seems a little false/forced. I understand the view that not many pilots changed the course of the way.. but if you shot down an ace it would have an effect... the ace wouldnt magically come back to life. After all its not as if it didnt happen all the time in the war... otherwise all the aces would have survived. Anyway just my opinion, minor point in what seems to be a fantastic game!

Are there any plans to add early war aircraft to the game? I dont have the game yet so stop me if its already in there! I'd love to fly in 1915... or even observation flights in 1914! Some planes i'd love to see.. Vickers Gunbus Taube Caudron G3 Moraine Saulnier Type N Anyone know of any other early aircraft that made it into service? have to admit i dont know a great deal about 14/15. You could even include unarmed planes with the option of a handgun/rifle... perhaps working like a single shot turret? And of course theres records of dropping bricks through enemy planes! ... as i say i dont yet have the game so not sure if it is set up for observation missions. would also be great when the eindekker first turns up, seeing if you can survive long enough to get your DH2 delivered!

JULY/AUGUST 1917 Gotha raid on london.... is it me or have the planes just be badly painted on to the 'Remarkable photograph'? Anyone know what the American plane is? More on gothas (press seems fascinated by them at the time) AIR-MURDERERS! Sudden change of attitude to German pilots, no longer noble adversaries, now just murderers. Presumably again this is linked to the new threat of civilian bombing... disgraceful Huns!... we wont mention 25 years later when the British invented carpet bombing.... :o And some mad Italian riflemen on a roof!.... would be great to see this in OFF!
-
Just scanning August 1917 now... my scanner is painfully slow!
-
Ahh yes, thanks Cash. Just found it mention on OFF sites FAQ. I can get back to twitching and making noises like a spandau...
-
I'm a little concerned however... entered my tracking number on the Avangate site and it reads.... 'Order complete. All products / services have been delivered.' This just isnt true.... anyone know how their tracking works? And by what method/courrier the game is shipped (is it signed for??).
-
For anyone not familiar with early aircraft... Taube Narrator really can't pronouce Taube! Caudron G3 Sopwith Tabloid Moraine saulnier type L.... (is it moraine or morane? oppinion on the internet seems divided..) Not the morane everyone usually thinks of! very early.. even a record of one pilot fitting a machine gun in 1914! Not sure if there are any working replica Morane saulnier type N? or Vickers Gunbus?
-
Not so sure about that... most americans seem to favour German planes! :) I'd forgotten about the tabloid, yes that would be fantastic. Would be great to have real photographic missions etc and would make for interesting gameplay. Its easy to fall into the trap of assuming the only interesting activity is dogfighting.... there was so much more to the skills of a pilot/observer. Just survivng the flight would be a challenge in itself.... instability of craft, ground fire, and i love the idea of pistol dueling a taube pilot from 40 feet away! And dont forget some early craft like the gunbus had fixed front facing machine guns, i think it would be great fun and a great challenge fighting an early 2 seater while strugling to keep your plane in the air. Seems the potential is there to create the first game to include the whole of ww1 avaition rather than just the stuff that appeals to the mass market.

JULY 1917 A good picture of Rene Dorme (is that his plane? Shamrock under cockpit and all white stork?).... fails however to mention the fact that he's been dead for a month and a half! Famouse photo of richtofen's trophys... how did they get hold of it? Had to include the channel tunnel piece when I saw it, had no idea it had been planned that far back... didnt get built until 1994! Interesting photograph of the balloon observer.... where the hell is the photographer!!!.. didnt have zooms back then so must be hanging from balloon... automatic camera using expensive film instead of plates?
