  1. RFC uniform on a budget!

lol might be a while before I can afford the leathers. But in a way this is all part of the flight kit as pilots wore their uniform under the leather coat (except the hat of course!). In fact you would be court marshalled if you didn't wear your full unifom when flying (if caught out of uniform by the enemy you would be shot as a spy). I'll get the whole set eventually! But maybe not until after my degree...
  2. Just 5 working days for mine.... could be held up at customs perhaps, happens sometimes.
  3. And then there was the Admiralty AD 1000 Seaplane which carried a torpedo.
  4. By the way the plane looks fantastic. For those who dont know it is an AEG G4 Just looked up some more german torpedo planes... Gotha WD.14 WD.20 and WD. 22 I'll find a picture of one with a torpedo fitted if it kills me!
  5. The two german torpedo bombers I know about are the Albatros w.5 and the Hansa-Brandenburg GDW... damn hard finding a pictures or info on either of them though. As for the RNAS there was the Sopwith Cuckoo (which would be a cool addition to the game!) although it entered service just to late, would be nice to fly the 1916 prototype! Anyone have any reference shots of the Albatros or Hansa?
  6. Who wants white Allied flak?

It was me asking about it. This is fantastic! Another element of realism to an already immersive game!
  7. Has anyone tried a career in fe2s? Im not having much luck getting a fight... In FE"s as fighter pilot (well actually playing as gunner)... but whenever we encounter the enemy close up (close enough to hear their engines) The enemy just flys by ignoring us... and my wingmen just fly by ignoring them. Anyone else noticed this?
  8. FE2 career

Hey!... that Fe has a fixed forward firing gun!... can we getone of those?
  9. Rememberance Day

It's not often I put a suit on... not often I'm quiet for a whole minute either! I make today the exception every year.
  10. Seeing as I havent updated the other thread for ages I thought I'd put up a second one as well with the stuff from 1916 that I have now managed to find.
  11. News from the Front 1916

There was also a deluxe real leather bound version printed as a book after the war with better quality paper. http://www.amazon.com/War-Illustrated-Album-DeLuxe-European/dp/B000LJGEHS Love the way amazon have it on their site as "Out of stock"... no sh*t!
  12. News from the Front 1916

They are called "The War Illustrated" They were a weekly magazine during the war... as you collected them each week you could also buy a binder to put them in, the copies I have are all compiled in binders and look like bound books. So you don't need to collect each magazine seperately just look for complete sets in binders... Its comes in about 8 volumes altogether each the size of a thick encycolpedia. Make sure you have a large enough space on your bookshelf, after all they contain a weekly account of the entire war! Here is someone selling the first 3 volumes (which I dont have! but can't afford to spend the money at the moment) They turn up fairly often on ebay too, but dont by the ww2 version by mistake! http://reading.gumtree.com/reading/54/44921754.html http://www.greatwardifferent.com/Great_War/NewsMedia/WarIllustrated.htm
  13. Been talking in another thread about the different AIs used in game and has come up that the reason BE2s act so strangely in OFF is that they are set to Level Bomber AI. In OFF BE2s just fly in a straight line as if they have a rear gunner... Reality was very different. The BE2 had a fixed front firing machine gun and was designed to be manueverd to fire it, basically in real life they would dog fight... not just sit there. Obviously they wouldnt hold up for long but they would certainly throw themselves about as much as possible trying to get a shot. Now I assume the odd suicidal snoozing of OFF BE2s is down to the limitations of CFS3 What would the implications be of setting it as tactical_bomber or fighter_bomber I have noticed that single seat Strutters dogfight perfectly and bomb perfectly so why not BE2s? (I think strutters are set to tactical?)
  14. FE2 career

Hmm that explains why the BEs are messed up in OFF... they are set to level bomber... not suitable tactic for a plane with a fixed front firing gun. They were designed to dogfight. Might i sugest it should be altered in a future patch?
  15. Dont know if these are any interest to anyone. I have a complete run of this magazine from 1916 to beyond the end of the war. Let me know if you want any more, plenty of stories/images not published anywhere else.
  16. FE2 career

P.s Love the cigarette packit in the cockpit... and the photo... is it a picture of Mata Hari? Got an article in War Illustrated about her execution. These days though she's fairly widely considered to have been executed wrongly, betrayed by a counter agent.
  17. FE2 career

I know what you mean! Something fantastic about the early pushers... still would like to see a Gunbus added. I'll try changing the AI behaviour as you suggest as 2 seaters really dont act like they should in OFF (limitation of CFS3 I guess!) I will probably try out changing BE2 as well as they should definitely not fly in a straight line... I'm guessing it is the only way to make the AI drop bombs though... and even thats not right as they high level carpet bomb like ww2 bombers, they would swoop low over target before they drop them in real life. Withough a modern bombsight wouldnt hit anything otherwise!
  18. FE2 career

Odd.... you know that you have to switch to gunner to use any guns on FE right? Pilot doesnt have any guns
  19. Rememberance Day

Sorry I should have been more specific which wars I meant lol WW1 was a war of pride. It just didnt need to happen (in the words of the great Blackadder "It was just too much trouble not to have a war") WW2 was a war against oppression. In this war we were really and truly fighting for the freedom of our nations. As for oil... if it wasnt there, the UK and US wouldnt be there either. I'm not suggesting that the troops arent also removing oppressive regimes, of course they are.... but a little naive to think that is the only reason... (I dont see troops in North Korea... oh wait lol,,,no oil..) Whatever the reasons for a war, its the soldier that suffers for the sins of governments and the soldier that shows the bravery. Wearing my poppy with pride!
  20. News from the Front 1916

I'm also trying to track down 1914 to 1915.... I may know someone who has them but not sure yet.
  21. News From The Front!

Lol yes it was Hans Franel... back on page one of this thread, i even found the original photo they had taken it from... definitely far mor propaganda than fact in The War Illustrated
  22. News From The Front!

So not likely to be flying a Gotha over London then?
  23. FE2 career

Lol yeah the AI does keep throwing surprises in to keep you amazed! I guessed that the Eindekkers may be avoiding the FE's deliberately. What is confusing is the FE's not giving chase, especially as I am flying offensive patrols to engage enemy aircraft! Do different AIs respond to enemies at different ranges? usually seems to be the same time the engine noises appear (and if you have ever used radar the same time they go red) that your wingmen all peel off for attack... but no reaction from my FE's Is it possibly the AI is acting as if they are bombers and just plodding along even though they are supposed to be opperating as fighters? Ive notice BE2s just plod along without turning to fight (which is odd in itself as they have fixed front guns and should try to dogfight!). I suspect that it is.... A. a limitation of CFS... or B. Already being worked on by Devs Usually when I mention something they are already on top of it! EDIT - In contrast Ive noticed German 2 seaters spin around dog fighting like madmen! So only seems to be british 2 seaters?
  24. News From The Front!

OCTOBER - NOVEMBER 1917 Was Rudolf Berthold really in command of London air raids?
  25. Rememberance Day

Here's to all the poor men killed for the pride of nations. The men who died to fight oppresion. And the lads now fighting for the greed of oil. Would be nice if lessons where learnt one day. Rest in peace.
