5% responsible for about 50% of all kills
ConradB replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
From flying the big furballs in BoBII, I learned and it has become habit to not get fixated on a target. I usually spend my time in combat rescueing wingmen or 2 seaters from enemy attacks. The 2 seaters are usually pretty good. If I can make an E/A veer off, the gunner usually gets them. When attacked, or if I spot an adversary making an aggressive, I calmly turn towards him, and try to make a headon pass. Even if he has a height advantage. I can pull up, and pop a few into the engine, and that usually gets them off me. Once the battle starts to wind down, and there are a few stragglers, I may use my remaining ammo to knock an enemy down just to log a claim, but most of my kills, are usually unintentional, as I seem to spend most of my time putting out "fires" so to speak. -
Found something that may help smooth the game out
ConradB replied to ConradB's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks Von Paulus! I'm running Vista X64 with services streamlined from the tweaks from Blackviper and the recommended settings to turn off stuff I don't need or use. -
But if the Devs give this man a Snipe, he will be as hermit in a cave, and we will be without his most enjoyable and humorous posts!

Found something that may help smooth the game out

Not sure about the "OC" part. I flew a total of 6 missions and monitored the temps while I was at it, and didn't notice any issues with temps or speed being overly rated. I guess if one is concerned, it would be good sense to monitor it just to be safe. One of the missions had a huge battle going on, with over 30 crates mixing it up between 2 seaters and scouts, and the lowest fpr I observed was 38. The average was between 45 and 57 the entire time. Is there any concern that may be of need as Creaghorn mentioned about it overclocking a system? I'm just learning this, as it is new to me, and I do not know all the details yet as to how it functions completely. -
That rotary is looking great there bud! I'm working on a low poly model of the Mercedes DIII. With the snow melting and the ground soft and soggy, I have also been rolling the 5 acres so mowing doesn't rattle my back teeth out. Once I get a good model ready that falls in along the tightrope of looking good, with a low enogh poly count, I post some pics. Just trying to keep it with all the plumbing and tubing and plugwires and all the goodies is a real job. Also working on the cockpit, mostly from a "what looks good" viewpoint as there are virtualy no pics of the cockpit complete. There's one from the plane that's in a museum, but it is very barebones, lacking guages and all that stuff. So, it's kinda a "by guess, and by god" approach, and does it look good. I do have the gunring and support struts done. That was an interesting part to build, since the whole outer ring is stationary, and it has an inner ring that swivels 360 degrees, and the gun mount also swivels left and right, but also has the up and down motion too. So the observer's gun has 3 motions of travel. 2 on the horizontal, and 1 on the vertical.

Modeling/skinning
ConradB replied to carrick58's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
For skinning, I use a combination of Gimp, and Paint.net. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, so what one does better I use it for that procedure, and they compliment each other quite well. I find the Gimp works better for things that require a "freehand" sketching approach, where Paint.net lends itself better to working with layers. Which after 10 years I'm finally starting to get the hang of. Modelling is fun once you get the hang of it. It's the initial getting the hang of it that's the hard part. The tutorials are good, but can be confusing at first. Trust me, I spent an entire weekend just setting up the backround areas for building from. Best thing, is to take your time. You will use a 3 view drawing as your reference. But remember, 3 view drawings are not always 100% accurate. So you may have to make slight adjustments to them as you go along. Best thing I can suggest, is to stay flexible and not let yourself get frustrated. -
Anti-Ubisoft DRM petition to sign
ConradB replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The Grey Wolves add-on really makes a huge difference. It transformed SH3 from a mediocre game to a great game. Yep, just like you guys did with OFF. But you guys started from the ground up with a completely different game in mind than just improving a standing game. Thankyou too OBD for not using an online verifying system. My wireless system is far too dodgy and the game would suck if I lost connection being out in the sticks. I sure do hope they run regular highspeed out here eventually. -
I learned that the first time 'round. After that I painted everything semi-gloss bright white. The latex paint cleaned very easy with 409, 2 kids made it fun. Besides, she learned she could redecorate with what ever she wanted as white goes with anything on the walls. And it made the 40 year old oak floors look brilliant.

If you could go back in time, would you?

If I was 17 again, and had to, I would like to buzz around in one of these: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/d/d3/XwingYwings-RSII.jpg -
THat DRM is why I haven't bothered with getting Silent Hunter V. Graphically beautiful, with the water and weather and pyrotechnics, but I think I'll wait until or if they decide to drop it. If they don't, I guess I don't need the game that bad. I like pluggin' around the Pacific myself. Nicr girls on those islands in the Pacific. Ahhhhhhhhh Tahiti.

ALARM! ALL NVIDIA GRAPHICS CARD USERS!
ConradB replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I never get them when they first come out. Same thing as when I had my ATI and AMD stuff. If there are any bugs, I don't want to be the teast rat who finds out the hard way. I give them a few weeks first. Even though my card uses the Nvidia Chipset, I wait until eVGA has them posted. Usually by then, they are good. -
Same thing happenned with Vista at first and DX10. We had to get DX9.0c and install it to get the older stuff to work. And since most of my sims are getting rather dated, it was a must. Still run into some issues with real old games that although are not big on eye candy, they were just fun to play. I even popped in DOSBox to fire up some real oldie moldies that were good even though the graphics are bad.

I've got the whole series on Realplayer, and like watching it. One of my favorites along with the Hurricane, and the Mossie. When I was a young feller we went to the Imperial War Museum in Ottawa, and I was just awe struck. Used to have a picture of my dad holding me while I stood on the wing of a Hurricane. The Lancaster just mezmerized me. It was so huge, it looked like it would never get off the ground. But the thing that I remembered the most was a Camel hanging from the ceiling like the model planes in my room. That, along with the little ride I had in a homebuilt DRI when I was 5 or 6 just hooked me into wings with wires.

Perfect attack on a Bristol Fighter
ConradB replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I seldom attack them from the behind. I will make a front quarter pass on the level or from slightly below. Never directly in front. The best thing is, making a turn so the rear gunner can't have at you. If I'm lucky enough to hit the engine, it will slow them so I can overtake them, and give them a second volley from the front quarter. Just like hitting the America heavies in WWII sims. -

I think "alphabet soup" would be a good name for this one. Extremely interesting! -
Sound Tweak II. 100% improvement
ConradB replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - File Announcements
Nice effects! Very immersive. I have your settings and am adjusting them for personal preference. Any suggestions for the other settings? I want to try to get it as close to authentic without completely killing everything else. And thanks to OBD for leaving room for others to tweak things and offer alternatives! -
17 hour life expectancy? Not for the German pilots
ConradB replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Up until the last year or the last summer of the war, the German pilots were some of the best trained in the world. If not the best. To offset the lack of training was the introduction of the DVII. A mediocre pilot could use it to great advantage with it's great overall performance. But the man behind the stick is the always the deciding factor. -
Loved 'em UKW! Those were great! I always wondered, if a Stealth Bomber crashed in the forest. Would "it" make a sound? Also, what color would a Smurf turn if you strangled them?

I'm always too close to the front. The High Command in Berlin seem to like placing me close to the front. It couldn't have anything to do with this Oberst's young daughter could it? And for some reason my CO said he received a note from some Fieldmarshall that if I was found anymore than 5 miles inside of our lines, I was to be courtmarshalled. After all, my Uncle is a Baron in Saxony, and I was raised by him and his wife the Baroness.

Albatros D Va Jasta 5 "Hans Huckebein"
ConradB replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, the picture of your plane is very nice. I like your mottled decking. Reminds me of some of the Fw190, and Me262 mottled paint schemes. It really makes your plane look like a pouncing hunter. The reference was to the downed sausage for witnesses. Sorry it couldn't be claimed. It is always a shame. -
Ah no Uncleal, I usually drop into a friendly aerodrome and have a few glasses of Apfelschnapps, and a few games of darts, or skeet shooting. Then back to my Albatros, and home I go. Little Gretchen my dachshund gets angry if I miss her feeding time. And she then has a bad temper and leaves suprises under my cot in my office.

Oh come on guys, if you don't like the livery the model comes in, make some stencils and paint the markings on yourself. I never use water decals on models. I have been painting them on for over over 20 years now. They look real nice if airbrushed with a couple light coats of thinned paint. Beats the snot out of decals anyday.

Sehr gut Hauptman Olham! Did you have witnesses for that Krumpet kite? -
Something with Vista I had to do, that was different than XP, was to add my games to the Data Execution Prevention list, (DEP). In XP, I was able to edit the XP ini file to turn the stupid DEP option off, but I have yet to find it Vista. So I just add all my important software to the exception list in DEP, and that has made a huge difference. Not sure if Win7 uses it, but it may be an option to try. I know it played havoc with The Battle of Britain Simulator, and SHIII when I first got them.
