  1. Christmas

(Dagnabit, y'all beat me to it!) I want to wish all of you the very best of Christmases! And a special toast to the stalwart coders of OBD software for their Christmas gift to us all! May you all be blessed with peace and health and joy both now and in the new year ahead. To Christmas! To OBD! To WOFF! To the planes!
  2. Mapping Project

Shiloh: So will you then print it out "mirror image", glue it to the shade, and set a large mirror next to your monitor? ;) (and where is that smilie that ducks as a rock flies at him???) Thanks Lou, it's looking good.
  3. Mapping Project

Oh, thanks! He has my sympathy there. I just d/l'd the skins and I haven't even installed WOFF yet! We're really busy at work.
  4. Mapping Project

Indeed what an undertaking! And the first thing I've heard that is deficient in WOFF. But aren't the same areas modeled as last time, or is it just so much more detailed? And speaking of Lothar, has he been around? I feel he did so much to keep OFF alive, and was such a good chap, I hope the only reason we haven't seen him here because he's too busy flying WOFF!
  5. WOFF overpriced. Is it just me?

I'd have probably paid more than that. I know something of what these guys have gone through to make this sim.
  6. You may think you're a good OFF Flyer!

I know what you mean, AROTH, why do you think I call myself the Human Drone!
  7. Van Baur, that is exactly how I did it. 4.7 GB, wrote it to a DVD, brought it home. Sorry for the delay, can't get on here much.
  8. Duke, I think the skins add-on is download only. Sorry to disappoint you this time. I guess I'm a lucky guy. I spotted it on Day1 and got my order in. I used my check card as a Visa (i never use it with the PIN), and it went through with no problem. Downloaded at work the next day, where we have nice fast internet service. Now I have no place to put it... looks like I may have to dump OFF in favor of WOFF. Which I guess isn't so bad... Good luck guys!
  9. Indeed, my good fellow. As a matter of fact, a good, fresh Guinness draught is the only beer I ever tucked into that I actually liked! Of course, I've only had 4 beers in my life - just not a beer man... But I was heartened, as I certainly am an Irishman! In the spririt of Christmas and dear ol' Ireland, I shall spot everyone a Guinness at the next gathering of the BOC!
  10. You may think you're a good OFF Flyer!

Oh no! (I just couldn't resist...)
  11. Holy Moley! So I download WOFF. Yippee! But I only have 26 GB free on my static drive. Hmmm. Well, I've had this problem for a while, after having moved my user accounts to the spinning drive, it still seemed that the Public Pictures were stored on the static drive. As a matter of fact, the public Pictures folder showed up in two places: C:\Users\Public\Pictures and D:\Users\Public\Pictures. The icon for the C:\Users\Public folder though, was a shortcut, but it's properties didn't show it's target directory. I forget how I did all that and why the "Public" user hive was different. Well, dang. That folder is showing 49.7 GB! How about I right click, properties, hmm, i can point it to the D:\Users\Public\Pictures and maybe that will eliminate the duplicates. Hmmm. Looking good!.... Let's see now... Start.. Pictures... GASP! They are every one gone! No recycle bin, no undo, they are just gone.... Three years of pics, my son's first flight this summer, our house from the air, Christmases. Birthdays, everything! And the static drive still showed 26 GB free! So they must not have been there after all! Well, I wasn't completely without backup, but it wasn't 100%. So I'm working with a file recovery utility to try to get them back. And while I am at it (waiting...), I created a new signature banner to commemorate the release of OFF and the resurgence of the BOC! Windows should make it boneheadedly simple to put your user accounts & other bloating data wherever you bloody well want them. Static drives aren't cheap! And... guess who's going to be aggressive about his backups and restore points! All I wanted to to was get WOFF installed, maybe go for a spin... Wish me luck, fellow WOFFers! Best, Tom
  12. Thanks, men, and thanks for being a good sport about my topic title theft, Widowmaker! Well, I used a freebie utility called Recuva and it seems I got them all back, but I now have 22,000+ images compeletely unsorted- funny, the program read the folders that the pictures had been in, but it did not re-create the structure in my recovery folder. Oh, well, at least i have them, and the older ones were all backed up in folders anyway. But sadly, all that and I still only have 26 GB on my static drive. That's painfully slim for WOFF, and so igotta see what else I can dump... Best, and go back'em up! Glad I could serve as a prompter, at least! Tom
  13. *Sigh*

I need to stop back and thank Tamper for using my card as an example and giving me a nice comparative evaluation while he was at it!
  14. Emergency landing....but...

Now THAT'S funny! Thanks for lightening up my dark night (I stole your other thread title..)
  15. rudder problem

Thanks for the warning, hood! I've got these (they're great elsewhere), so I'll be on the lookout when I install, and I'll post if I find anything! Tom

  19. I Leave For Five Minutes And...

Good to see you, Capt! I don't get to post as much as I used to- work restrictions, and VERY busy at work - much travel, much overtime. I'm betwwen confernence calls now, and it's nearly bedtime... Thank God I can handle this suff at home. Like you, I was glad to see a lot of familiar faces coming back. This is a great place, and the best group of people I've eveer encountered on "teh intarwebz", I just wish I had more time. I know what youu mean about the five minutes! I checked in over the weekend, saw the release was set for early next week, (i.e this week), and so, since I was travelling monday, I checked in here and posted a lot; Tuesday I put a hard 16 hours of testing in, then checked in before falling asleep; I had a wrap-up meeting, then flying home Wednesday, and late last nightsaw it was released! I just managed to get my order in last night at 10:30, so at least I got it in on Day 1 (as long as it was still Dec 11th where I am, i'm counting it!). I downloaded today at work where the internet is much faster. But now what to do? i only have 26 GB left on my SSD - do I keep OFF, or ??? I migrated all my user accounts to the spinning drive, but it seems like my Public pictures folder is duplicting itself back to the static drive - the pics seem to show up in both places... Oh well, I'll sort that out, I can always move them to a completely different folder and share them from there; that should do it. I sure hope you can update your rig soon, maybe Santa will be good to you! The life of a grad student must be tough. How long until the PhD is finished? Best, Tom (who fromthe looks of the new AI, will continue to be a "Human Drone")
  20.
  21. *Sigh*

Thanks as well, Tamper! Looks like I may have a fighting chance, at least computer-wise. I think the new AI will still keep me at "Human Drone" status (if not "Human Cadaver" status)!
  22. Weeellllll, I am BARMY, after all... My father-in-law always told me - "Tom, there's no sense making a fool of yourself if nobody gets to see it!" My brother-in-law was asking me the other day if we could hook up the computer to the new 55" in the family room. If it weren't for about a dozen cables wrappped all around my desk, relocating the modem & router, blah, blah, blah, I said yes, we could... it'd be quite a view, that thing has a beautiful picture.
  23. von Baur, I don't know... Yeah, the smartphones and laptops are getting better and better, but two years in, and my desktop (see my sig) still roundly whips the bare arse of any laptop computer in my office - and we're engineers! And I didn't go all-out when I spec'd that one... So maybe for the general public, yes - but for flat-out speed for numerical analysis & stuff like that, desktops are still hard to beat. I think we still have a few more years to go... ETA: Good glory I did it again... replied to a post at the bottom of page 1 without seeing the page 2 and the discussion moving on.... sorry guys.
  24. WOFF release date

I have the "Buy now" page bookmarked!
  25. I hope they get somewhere, too, and add my welcome, but at this point am not sure about it's applicability to our type of simmming. Still, it brings up something I've considered starting a separate thread for. My Saitek X-52 is not a force feedback stick. The devs have noted that the winds of WOFF will be more realistic, buffeting you around, etc. Now re-creating this sensation isn't easy - when you get buffeted in the air, it isn't the stick that shakes as much as it is YOU. I just had that delighful experience landing in Clevekand today (I was laughing, which only increases my barmy level. But I fear without even force feedback, I'll miss out on this aspect. I think there used to be a chair you could get with some kind of shaker in the seat (no off-color remarks here, this is a nice forum). But it seems to me to get turbulence "right" you'd need something like that. Just some thoughts,..
