About Wien1938

  1. Thanks - I'm going to give this a try with the A-Team's WW2 mod. :)
  2. What you say seems quite sound, re: the probability of emergency upgrading of the RAF fleet in the event of imminent war with the Soviet Union. I wish I could find more information about such things as whether the FGs & FGR2s had the ECM wiring for the left/right-Sparrow station as undertaken on USAF F-4s during the Vietnam period. I know that a Phantom Electronic Warfare Training pod existed and it seems to have been an underwing pod, probably carried under one of the inner pylons. However, according to ex-Phantom pilots, the PEWT was very basic and "not a success". I suspect we could probably just write "ECM" into the relevant Sparrow station and have some ECM "urgent operational requirement" pod installed there... There is some good footage here of FGR2 Phantoms in flight, the smoke trail is quite modest (or even non-existent) without the burners. That said, this airshow footage shows a stronger smoke trail! The smoky trails from older jet engines were linked to unburnt fuel passing from the combustion chamber. You can see the trail on this F-4B.
  3. I've corrected the engines to behave as they should on fuel consumption (afterburner had negative fuel consumption rates!) and reset the exhausts to emit correctly (afterburner had the dry exhaust emitter set!) Left Engine TSFCM0=0.680 TSFCM1=0.853 AfterburnerTSFCM0=1.950 AfterburnerTSFCM1=2.383 MinFuelFlow=0.01 ExhaustEmitterName=CleanExhaustEmitter ExhaustPosition=-0.65,-6.23,-0.58 AfterburnerNodeName=afterburner_L AfterburnerEmitterName=F4AfterburnerEmitter MinExtentPosition=-1.13,-6.28,-1.02 MaxExtentPosition=-0.14, -1.24,-0.04 Right Engine TSFCM0=0.680 TSFCM1=0.853 AfterburnerTSFCM0=1.950 AfterburnerTSFCM1=2.383 MinFuelFlow=0.01 ExhaustEmitterName=CleanExhaustEmitter ExhaustPosition=0.65,-6.23,-0.58 AfterburnerNodeName=afterburner_R AfterburnerEmitterName=F4AfterburnerEmitter MinExtentPosition= 1.13,-6.28,-1.02 MaxExtentPosition= 0.14, -1.24,-0.04
  4. Very nice mod. Some problems noted though: 1. The fuel consumption is VERY low. Is this accurate? I was able to dogfight on 100% afterburner for five/ten minutes without running out of fuel. 2. I noticed in the DATA.ini file that the F-4M has an ECM position. Is this correct? 3. Like all F-4Ms (stock, NATO Fighers 5 and mod), these have the incorrect exhaust emitter. The Spey engine was not smoky like the J-79 and so should not have the dirty exhaust trail.
  5. Captured Hawk batteries are a pain - they don't even show up on the map when they've fired. I have to overfly the battery, manually pick out the radar units, shoot them up and even then I've seen Hawks firing from sites which should be silent. At the moment, they're making captured NATO territory more dangerous to overfly than Warpact territories!
  6. Possible bug? One of my Phantoms just got shot down by a Hawk SAM battery - it was definitely enemy (red) - can SAM batteries be captured and turned in use?
  7. Thanks, Eric. I've just reinstalled NF5 and the same problem came up. Must be, as you said, a stock issue. Guess I'll have to reinstall SF2 all over again (groan)... I was getting the same problem with the US Phantoms too and the F-104s as well. Reinstall time - thanks for the reply. It eliminates possible causes... :D
  8. Eric, sorry to be a pain but having just installed NF5, when I flew the F-4M_75 (lovely flight model, by the way :) ) the radar display was missing the range bars and there was no gunsight on the HUD? Is there anything I can do fix this?
  9. A couple of questions. Before I start, I would like to praise the mod - it is superb. 1. Does anyone know why the AI is incapable of NOE (Nap Of the Earth) attacks? The RAF especially trained in this attack method from the 1970s onwards, typically flying at 50ft in wartime. The USAF also trained in this attack method. At present the AI pilots will pull up to 1500ft and get shot at rather than follow my aircraft under 500ft, I'm aware that this is an issue for the designers but I did wonder if anyone has asked this question. 2. Trying out the Tornado first, the mirror reflections seem to be missing a part of the centre of the aircraft - see through to the ground. Is this an installation error on my part?
