Down in flames
harryleith replied to harryleith's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
My mission dates are all around 2015, so I'm not sure what systems have become available in the Modern Warfare Korea mod by that time. Certainly the after-action report identified the missiles as SA-17s. That particular game install has only the Modern Warfare Korea mod installed - completely vanilla - so there aren't any stray SAM systems except what came in the mod install. It's too bad, because it looks like fun - it's just way too deadly for me to get my teeth into! -
Can someone tell me this MiG-21MF Unit?
harryleith replied to liamp51's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I have a soft spot for the MiG-21 too. When we player Air Superiority (the board game) or Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, I was the only one willing to fly red team, so I quite of ten found myself in a MiG-21 or MiG-29. That is a NICE skin. -

Thanks Wrench! All of us CombatAce Aussies appreciate the great work you do on bringing us RAAF aircraft. Keep it up! -

I have been a Mac user since 1990 and I just love them. The university I worked for bought me a MacBook Pro 12", a big screen and a keyboard and mouse, and it was the best rig ever. And the new Intel-based ones mean you can install and run Windows as well, should you feel the need. Being able to dual-book Windows and MacOSX is great. Price-wise you always pay more for Apple hardware than a comparable PC rig, but component integration and quality control is usually worth the price.

Best Series 1 game for multiplayer
harryleith posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi Gang, I own the full spread of SF2 titles and have been happily flying for over a year now. However, I have a geographically-challenged friend who wants to try Strike Fighters but wants to do multiplayer. This would involve buying at least one of the SF1 series games. After reading through the multiplayer guidelines (Yes, Wrench, some people do actually read the forums first ) it seems each game of the series handles multiplayer a little differently. I am interested in finding out which title people would recommend. My research has me leaning towards WoE, but I would appreciate any opinions before hitting Pay Pal. If it helps, my mate last played Chuck Yeager's Air Combat flying F-4s against my MiG-21. -

This version of the MiG-17 is armed with early AA-1 Alkali beam-riding missiles. The MiG-17 has a disturbing habit of locking up the controls at high speed, meaning you can't maneuver and just fly along in the direction you are going until you can slow down. I understand this is caused by the flow of air over the control surfaces which at high speed were just too great for mechanical linkages and pilot strength to move. Western aircraft had hydraulic controls to avoid this issue. -
Possibly you all mean Kangaroos? The damn things are a positive menace. I will ship you as many as you want - but I suppose you want t-shirts instead.

Welcome Yoghurt. Are you a newbie to the game as well as the forums, or have you been flying a while? What aircraft/era do you prefer?

RAN A-4G comparison
harryleith posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
It is great to see the new DLC model for Third Wire, and I was particularly happy to see one of the first aircraft off the drawing board was the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm A-4G Skyhawk. I love this aircraft and had created my own mod version, so I was eager to compare them. I created this composite image to show the Third Wire and my version together. I didn't do a bad job, but the new aircraft is beautiful. It was well worth the money. Thanks TK. I hope the new funding model will get good support. -

DLC aircrafts available
harryleith replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I love the A-4G so I was happy to buy it and fly it alongside my 3rd-party versions. Unfortunately after downloading I found I need the May 2011 patch or better - so I'm downloading a half-a-Gig of updates before I can try it out. -
Anzac Day in Australia is a time to celebrate our servicemen and women and reflect on their courage and sacrifice. We take it pretty seriously! Anyway, my town wasn't on the list for an RAAF flypast this year, so I staged my own virtual flypast in remembrance of the fallen. It is a four-ship formation with an RAAF Hawk trainer, and F/A-18 Hornet, and F/A-18F Super Hornet and an RAAF F-35 Lightning II. F/A-18 Hornet and RAAF Hawk trainer. RAAF F-35 Lightning II and and F/A-18F Super Hornet. In the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them...

I am loving the new Afghanistan terrain. It is great to have to worry about the terrain as you roll in on CAS missions. there are only really a couple of good attack corridors onto the target, meaning you have to fly in, do a run and roll out, then come around and make another run. However you really need to watch the terrain. I waited juuuuuust too long to pull my Harrier Gr.7 out of a guns pass on some T-80BVs and clipped the ridge of a hill on the way out. I thought I might have gotten away with it - but then the flames started and I was trailing a line of black smoke. Flames lick around the tail of my Harrier GR.7 after clipping a hill. I nursed her to within about 10 miles of home, then it really started taking hold. I debated trying to set her down, but thought better of it and ejected just seconds before she exploded. While walking the rest of the way home I repeated to myself "I will watch the hills and I will not hold by attack runs too long. I will watch the hills and I will not hold my attack runs..." Thanks for the marvelous terrain!

Nice! Is the RAAF skin downloadable from anywhere, or is it still a work in progress? -
