Bae Hawk 128
Jimbib replied to russouk2004's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I think the blueprint which has the extended nose is labelled as the Hawk 102 variant, which was for UAE, which I can only assume has a longer nose cone than the 128 variant. -
Bae Hawk 128

Hey Russ, I've found the same blueprints I think you've been using, the nose seems a little too long in the diagram in comparison to a photo of a Hawk T2, here's an overlay of your pic... -
Congratulations to Sheila mate!

Sent you a pm buddy!

Yeah, so they were looking for how many standard sized marbles (~1.25cm diameter) you could fit into an average British tube station. The idea is that you start by working out the volume of a single marble, and then you work out the cross sectional area of the tube station. Then you start to consider things like the overall volume of the station and the fact that in regular sphere packing you have 74% space efficiency. They're not looking for a final answer, in fact you often get stopped way before you reach an answer. It's all about the methodical steps you take in figuring out the problem.

Engineers get asked oddball questions like this all the time, this one is clearly a matter of weighing up the probability and certainty of the different outcomes. Usually it is a case of the path you take to get to an answer, as opposed to the actual answer you end up at. For example, I recently got asked how many marbles could you fit in tube station.

Lovely snap of Ant, I managed to crawl all over one of these on a visit to 39 sqn a few years ago in cadets. Don't speak too soon about them being gone forever either, plans are afoot to return one to flight.

Finally Getting One Of These

TripleHead2Go is awesome, you'll love it Dave. This is a really rubbish photo depicting my Uni's flight sim which we have it set up to 3 projectors... -

Lovely stuff mate! Thought you'd done Didcot for a minute there. -
My university has just splurged a tonne of money on a professional custom yoke setup for its panoramic simulator, I'm waiting for them to upgrade to X-Plane 10, from 9. My Aerospace Engineering final year personal project? Flight simulator testing, I can't wait

@Dave, at least the tiger scheme was done by a member of The Mirage Factory, possibly Pierrot or Camouflage, but I'm not sure. The Tiger is definitely from the MF though. EDIT: Just checked, it was Pierrot. -
LNG storage?
Jimbib replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Depends what kind of dimensions you're looking to end up with. The volume of a sphere is defined as: V = (4/3)(π)(r^3) Where π = pi r = radius If it is the radius you're after, you can rearrange the equation to get the radius as a function of the volume: This would be dividing the volume by (4/3)(π) and then taking the subsequent cube root: r = [(3V)/(4π)]^(1/3) Once you have the radius you can figure other dimensions, like the diameter (simply double the radius) or the cubic storage dimensions required. -
Like a boss.

Nellis AFB for Range /SoCal Terrains WIP
Jimbib replied to hurc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Yep, VMFT-401 Snipers out of Yuma, VFC-13 Saints out of Fallon, and 64th & 65th out of Nellis, the scenario would have more than ample Red forces. Those bases were modeled a few years ago now and have been on hold since. I have also started on Miramar, Groom & TTR with plans for Creech and AOF at Yucca Lake. -

I am seriously thinking about doing one, but only after Spotty Jag gets out of the paint shop.. -
