  1. Disclaimer: this may or may not work... Step 1: One thing that you could try is hex edit the LOD so that the texture file format is a .tga. Alternatively, if it's your own 3d model, map the mesh with a tga. in 3ds Max and then re-export. Step 2: Convert the existing texture (I'm guessing it's a .bmp or a .jpg) to a tga, make sure it's got a transparency alpha channel enabled. (Would need to use a image editing software like Gimp, Photoshop etc.) Step 3: Compare the UV map of the pilot LOD against the pilot texture so you know where each node of the mesh is mapped on the texture. (You can use mue's LOD viewer to export the UV map of a LOD) Step 4: Delete the pixels of the alpha channel texture where you want the node of the pilot mesh to disappear (you can 'paint' them black in Photoshop). Again... this may or may not work...

  3. RAF Coningsby work in progress for Sundowner's awesome PR UK terrain, finally figured out the diffuse effect for the floodlights that avoids the dreaded flickering.

My condolences to you and your loved ones GKABS, keeping you in my thoughts.
  7. Mue's LOD viewer can give the min and max co-ordinates in the bounding box column for any node in a LOD: EDIT: Also, this is a handy script if you are working in 3DS Max:
  8. That's the one thing I wish I had the skillset to do or even knew where to begin with, is build 3rd party patches that add (or at least jerry-rig) new features and fix a tonne of the bugs in SF2.
  9. View File Stock A-10A High Res Skin Pack USAF skin pack for the stock Thirdwire A-10A by Jimbib *** Must have the stock A-10A_78 installed for this to work (included in SF2E, or SF2 Complete package) *** This is a simple skin pack that I started years ago for the stock A-10 in WoE and never got round to releasing it so I've updated the skins to reflect the mapping for the SF2E A-10A_78. These skins will work on both the stock A-10A and A-10A_78 (earlier A-10A doesn't have the Pave Penny). USAF skins included are: - Grey False Canopy - Peanut - Flipper - Cool Snow Hog - Euro Extras - I have included alternate Shark and Hog nose arts for the Grey False Canopy skin (default is set to the Snake art) Installation notes: 1. Unzip the contents to a folder. 2. Open up your Strike Fighters 2 mod folder (e.g. C:\User\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Europe\...). 3. Copy the contents of the unzipped Objects folder into your SF2 mod Objects folder, allowing all files to overwrite if need be. This was tested on the latest July 2013 patch level on a stock SF2E install, I recommend you backup your stock A-10 files should anything go wrong, I am not responsible for any damage to your install / PC. You may not upload either the original or modified contents of this skin pack without my permission. If you wish to include these skins in a mod, please contact me here at CombatACE to discuss beforehand. This mod is freeware and may not in any way, shape or form be used in any payware. 11. On mobile at the moment so can't reply properly, but there are some old video tutorials at the following link that might help: https://www.bobsyouruncle.net/StrikeFighter3dModeling.htm
  12. Regarding a hangar large enough to fit the heavy metal inside, GKABS had made this one although I'm not sure if the final version got uploaded or not: https://combatace.com/forums/topic/94678-b-52-hangar/ Also, you should be able to avoid the hex editing to create differently skinned terrain objects by organising them into sub-folders with names. In the screenshot below if you were to copy, paste and rename the A-10 folder to 'A-10_S_2', or something like that, drop in the new skin bitmaps and add a new entry to the TYPES.ini, you should be good to go without any hex editing required (I did the exact same for the two 737-200 static models):
  13. 100% agree with you Wrench, I'm a big fan of having the option to permanently place specific static aircraft models especially at airfield locations where only that type of aircraft is ever found (e.g. I don't want the game engine to spawn random types of aircraft on the Janet ramp at my Groom Lake base, I only want to see Janet 737s that I've placed there) in addition to using the game engine's airfield parking feature. I've rattled through the downloads and some mods I have installed to draft the following list of what is available at the moment. Note that I've listed what I could find in the modders repository as these could easily be converted into static terrain objects with the authors permission of course: Aircraft in the Downloads Aircraft in the modders repository Type Aircraft Author Type Aircraft Author Airliner Sukhoi S100 RussoUK Bomber B-70 FastCargo Fighter A-10 Banidos team Bomber Beaufighter Mk.1 cocas Fighter AV-8 Harrier II Banidos team Bomber Tu-2S KnightWolf45 Fighter F-16 Banidos team Fighter A-10 Sparkchaser Fighter F-4E Fighter CF105 FastCargo Fighter F-5E TMF Fighter F-103 FastCargo Fighter Hurricane RAVEN Fighter F-108 FastCargo Fighter IAI-Finger Banidos team Fighter F-18 Super Hornet EricJ/James Glendonnews Fighter MiG-17 Wrench? I've got a load of 3d models I've downloaded from the internet over the years that I'll check through, but often figuring out if they're actually ripped models or not is a nightmare and hence a no go. I noticed that in the SF1 downloads there is a sub section for Static Aircraft under Objects, however I couldn't find a similar sub category in the SF2 downloads, is it worth having a new one made there for these to be gathered in one place?
  14. Dusted off some old higher resolution templates I made for the stock A-10 from 2007, working up a few skins I never got round to finishing. Euro 1, Snow Hog, Peanut and Flipper.
  15. Your First Sim

Joint Strike Fighter was mine I think, although I also played F-22: Air Dominance Fighter around the same time, shortly followed by Eurofighter Typhoon and SFP1.

  21. Welcome back UllyB! Some great suggestions on the list so far. A few aircraft that spring to mind that I think would thrive in the SF2 engine: de Havilland Mosquito (Pasko's Mosquito was great at the time, but would deserve a higher poly model) Textron Airland Scorpion (sadly never made it to production but a perfect fit for SF2... stubby little aircraft with a tonne of hardpoints for weapons in the light attack / recon role)
