  1. I fly mostly British, French and American. I have a German pilot, but I fly him only about 1/3 as much as the others. I just love my Se-5a and Nieuport 28, but I really can't wait for Phase 4 and the Snipe!
  2. New PC and new Monitor! now my OFF looks even better than before!
  3. @olham: those shots are amazing! would you mind posting your PC specs and in game settings? also, what kind of FSAA and AF are you running?
  4. Hi guys, I've recently bought a new computer and just re-installed OFF. now im wondering how to migrate my pilots from my old hard drive over to my new install. Possible?
  5. migrate pilots

I'm not trying to make my pilot "last forever", I just want to continue the career that I have going. I would have thought its a simple matter of copying a folder perhaps.
  6. migrate pilots

How exactly is migrating my pilot roster in any way "illegal'?
  7. @vonOben: wow, great shots. I can tell you've got those settings cranked! look all those treeeeeeeeees!
  8. @nbryant: great looking SPAD skin! are you going to make it available to the public?
  9. In Game Claim Count

In my experience, if you don't claim it : you don't get it. In real life, when enemy aircraft 'crashed' as a result of combat damage it was often claimed as an "out of control" kill, but still counted towards the pilot's overall total. In the game, there's no difference. if you damaged him, and he crashes then you're allowed to try to claim it. I usually try to claim ever kill I feel i've earned: the game will tell me if I've made an error when trying to submit a faulty claim sheet.
  10. @Olham i've only recently began to learn the central powers planes. This was a free flight just to learn the albatross, I just thought the clouds looked pretty. :)
  11. mastering the Nieuport 28

I personally love the Nieuport 28. some things to remember: It bleeds energy fast in hard turns and has a tendency to 'roll over' on a stall. Its very much a stick, rudder and throttle plane. For hard turns, I cut or reduce throttle then a quick blast of gas when you hear the airframe creaking and the wind noise calm down. Trust me, with practice you'll begin to feel the moment you approach stall speed in the Nieuport. Its a combination of mushy controls and wind noise. One of the best features of the 28 is it's decent climb rate, which is good for extending away from a low energy opponent. The only real trick, I find, is marksmanship: the odd gun placement makes estimating your shots a little difficult when first learning the aircraft.
  12. Hi everyone. I need some suggestions. I'd like to get my friends into some WWI air combat action, but they arent really into flight simulation games. But they are big boardgame/cardgame nerds. Now, I only know of 2 games that might fit the bill: Wings of War: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=24 and Down in Flames WWI: http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/ee/7/Down%20In%20Flames%20WWI Is there perhaps one I havent heard of?
  13. I've been playing OFF for almost 8 months now, and never done/seen anything like this! should I feel proud?
  14. wow Olham, you really cleaned it up! nice work.
  15. To be honest, I think pure luck had a big part to play. I'm often good for 1 or 2 kills per sortie when you consider ammunition and squadmate kills. Flying for RFC 56 means that my squadmates can hold their own and have even 'stolen' a few of my hard won kills. In the above mentioned scrap, the enemy planes just seemed to drift right into my sights at close range. I suspect one or two of those kills were outright pilot kills, meaning I saved ammunition which carried on the next kill. I also credit the lovely SE5a, no wonder it was called the "Ace maker". Even before the viper engine, it's a well powered little machine and a very stable gun platform.
  16. This pilot has exactly 8 hours of flying time, and yeah I know about the DFC not being available until 1918. I think the medal was awarded for a mission from a few days ago: I was flight leader on an airfield strike when we got jumped over the trenches by what looked like 2 different Jastas. There was my flight of 5, and another flight of 4 against I believe 11 or 12 Albatrosses. I took down 4, including a german ace. (cant rememeber his name, but his plane was black with orange.) I also managed 2 more assists with my dwindling ammo before I decided to turn back and live to fight another day. we never made it to our target. In the end, I claimed 3 kills although 1 was rejected. the 4th kill was a team effort so I left it out. I guess I should mention that i'm playing with default realism, no cheats.
  17. I'm still around. :)
  18. ROF So Far

bad news for me. I just updated my RoF this morning and now can no longer start the game! it crashes to desktop within about 5 seconds, right around the point you should see the neoqb logo. damn......nobody on the RoF forums seems to know why. very disappointed.
  19. Microstutters gone

hmmm, I gave those drivers a go on my 9800 GT and dont really notice a huge change from my old 186.18 set. I'll keep playing and see how it plays, but at least its not worse.
  20. Don't you love how sometimes you get that first burst just right?
  21. Hey guys, I know this may have been done to death but im just discovering the realm of WWI combat sims, having been a long time Falcon 4/FSX simmer. I've tried the RoF demo and its intriguing. Since I cant really 'try' OFF, and dont even yet have CFS 3 I really need to know what the differences are. I've watched a few youtube vids about OFF and i'm aware that there are more flyable aircraft in OFF. (there are right?) whats the load time of OFF like? RoF takes forever to load. what is the combat/gameplay like? is there padlocking? can someone recommend a good youtube vid that really shows off Over Flanders Fields? as it stands, Rise of Flight is easy to get. I can purchase (for $20) right online and start flying. But if I want to commit to OFF, I'll have to order both CFS 3 and the OFF DVD.
