  1. F-15 Retirement.....

OK...MK III then lol....sorry, being obtuse.
  2. Armed Observers for FE

I suppose we could "pretend" your D 5 is a D II maybe just alter the Engine specs to reflect an earlier machine ? It's just a thought by the way, not expecting you to jump in on it , sorry if you thought that, was just wondering if you could do a new lod....but if you haven't got the time, which I know you don't , it isn't a big deal. it would be nice to have a DII/III with the exhaust stack coming out the top of the engine........Like I say, I am unable to attempt anything like this anyhow, as I dont have access to 3DS Max, and also I wouldnt even begin to know where to start !! I for one appreciate the wonderful models you personally produce, and I only wish I had half your ability !! I know I keep coming up with bright spark ideas, i'm just enthusiastic, please donn't think I am being pushy or demanding, as that is not my intent.
  3. F-15 Retirement.....

F-15 is superb platform, however, like the A-10 and the F-16 it is getting a little aged now, maybe withdraw the 15 from Regular Squadrons, and equip only NG units with it, eventually ( as much as i hate the aircraft) the F-35 will take over, certainly in a BVR sense the F-35 is far far advanced, I suppose one must factor in the age of the airframes, flying hours, etc etc. Is it viable and financially sound to keep it in front line service, also avionics, pilot ergonomics, new weapon systems, can they be integrated into an older airframe. It may be that it just isn't cost effective to keep these older birds in the air. However, I am still not convinced by the F-35, I still think it is (at present) not fit for purpose, as it is far too multi role, if that makes sense, it is trying to fill all the needs of a modern Air Force in one package, and I dont think that is necessarily the best way of doing things, Some roles need a specific type of Aircraft to fulfill their respective roles more efficiently, and sometimes the devil you know is the best option. Even the Russians have updated the Flanker, and created a brand new aircraft, so, a MkII Eagle ? It is always sad to see effective aircraft retired, but that is the way of things, technology and doctrines, not to mention finances , and political ideologies move on, this is why we are no longer flying P-51's and Spitfires.......maybe a bit of a simplistic view, but I think you get my drift.

Ooooh more goodies for me to try out, By the way Geezer, how dificult would it be for you to do a Halberstadt DII version of your D 5 ? I know there are versions of it available from the site that I shall not mention by name , as it will lead me to the irresistable urge to throw insults, and also the one Bort did, however, neither is really either accurate, or in the case of Borts, really up to speed for FE2 I know there were few differenced between the DIII and the D 5 , however the DII have a different exhaust system, and I believe the wing form is a little different as well, As for the Arse teams version, what the heck is going on with that ammunition feed !!
  5. Fokker DII

View File Fokker DII Fokker DII A revamp of Stephen 1918's Glorious Fokker D II , I have re done the original 3 skins as I thought the aluminum cowl needed to be lightened up somewhat, and the panels on the cowlings needed a slight tweak. So I have re done the original ones supplied by Stephen, I have also made alternative versions of thos 3 aircraft with painted cowlings, and white bandage markings for the Maltese crosses, I also made one skin in Clear dope, for those of you who like CDL aircraft, it appears that the DII was usually painted , so a doped aircraft was rare, I also did 2 separate aircraft from Kesta 4b one with a black and whirte striped rear fuselage, and the other one was just white, also was not a named aircraft. and lastly I did an aircraft from Kesta 16 with a rather natty eyeball marking and the fuselage over painted with paint smears. I have also included the FM by Von S , along with the early spandau, and finally one of Geezers smashing pilots. sounds decals, and hangar screens are all included or at least they should be. I hope I have included everyone who I am supposed to give credit to, if I have missed anyone out I heartilly apologise, and thank you whomsoever ye may be. You may also notice that I have applied little or no weathering to these skins, that is basically because although these aircraft got very dirty very quickly, I much prefer the model to be shown in "airshow" condition, so if you want weathering, please feel free to add your own to taste, myself, I like 'em looking clean. 8. Fokker DII

in entente fokker skins, in the WWI section, I have put it in with the SCW stuff Geezer has uploaded.......Cheer s mate
  9. Are you sure you changed everything in the data file for the weapon itself ? check for little mistakes, its usually something you have input incorrectly or missed off, we have all done it lol.......I assume also the sound file you have made is in exactly the same format as the vulcan.wav ......I have experienced the occasional issue with sound files myself, sometimes they just refuse to work, for some mysterious and unknown reason.
  10. Fokker DII

  12. Lloyd C.II revised

Smashing stuff mate, not that it was awful to begin with, you have merely improved it even more . I am envious of the skills of some of you modellers, as much as I love skinning, I wish I was able to create an aircraft from the ground up.
  13. Armed Observers for FE

M17 ?....surely I meant M7......fingers getting ahead of themselves again.....so situation normal then !!
  14. Armed Observers for FE

Yes Stephen I do indeed have your lovely M17 , I wasn't aware of Bort doing a BII though, and it is the single bay jobs I am looking for , my intrest was piqued when I was researching D II & D III skins , the special hobby 1/48 kit of the B II popped up, and I was intrested in the CDL scheme for it, unfortunately it appears to be the Swartzlose armed version, hence my request. Von S, I use your FM's all the time, as a matter of course, and as such have them all, and I ad them to each aircraft as I skin it , wouldn't shop anywhere else mate !! I shall take a peek at the Bort B II however I feel it is most likely not up to scratch anymore, and as the aircraft type wasn't that common, I may just have to pass on it, as I said it is a whim, it would be nice to have one though with the squared off rudder, instead of the normal Fokker Comma. also Bort's Model seems to have twin Spandaus, which really isn't what I was looking for as a single Swartzlose was the actual armament, when they were armed that is.
  15. Armed Observers for FE

yes a bit like that, no doubt some enterprising soul could do it, however in this case it wouldnt be possible as the Spandau is part of the LOD , so, as you said Stephen would have to re do the whole thing , probably not worth his time an effort, I shall attaempt to do the the remove node thing at some point and make it into an unarmed version. As it wasn't that common an aircraft , it isn't that important, Unless Stephen would like to do it of course, then I wont complain lol
  16. Armed Observers for FE

I'll give it a bash during the week, using the time tested trial and error method, as for the Swartzlose armed version, I suppose I could just rename the Spandau and use the Swartzlose config, in place of the LMG 08 one, it's just an idea anyhow, not a real important thing if its too big of a job. It's a real shame that the guns arent a mountable item , like bombs or rockets, if that were the case swapping gun models would be an easy task, and folk wouldn't have to prat around with new LODs
  17. FE2 Mission Editor

Very true, such a shame really. Seems to be the trend across the board with games in general, Naval Action being a case in point where the Devs wern't listening to the players who were in the game for the long haul.
  18. Spanish Skies

that Chirri is so darn beautiful
  19. FE2 Mission Editor

I would imagine it must be possible to get it working, as to how, I wouldn't even know where to start. It does make you wonder why TK never bothered creating mission/campaign editors for the FE side of things.
  20. FE2 Mission Editor

Dunno mate, never felt the need to use it , not even used it on SF, I have used the Campaign editor, which I feel is far more useful, and would be nice to have for FE......as for making it work, I'm sure it must be possible, however as no one has done so thus far, it begs the question .
  21. Armed Observers for FE

Oh for sure we so need a Bleriot , a Taube would be nice too, however I guess as they wern't in service overly long , these types have been passed over for the more glamorous and "fighty" aircraft...........Quick request to Stephen , I am currently re skinning the Fokker D II/ D III 's at the moment, and I was wondering if it would be possible to do a very small mod to the D II to make it into an Austrian B II one with no gun and one with a Swartzlose would be nice, the airframe is pretty much the same as the D II , and they would be a quick and dirty conversion job.
  22. FE2 Mission Editor

ahhh but do you mean mission editor or the campaign editor, 2 totally different fish.
  23. Armed Observers for FE

I have wondered about the mixed squadrons question myself, I assumed it was not possible ......of course anything is possible, as long as the code is accessible. As for a vote on a 2 seater.....I would be happy with any, as I said before, there is room for Italian 2 seaters, along with the beautiful Albatros, I am glad I mentioned the Caudron and Letord , as it has obviously sparked a bit of intrest !! ......so I am happy with whatever comes out of the hat to be frank........I just wish I had the capability to launch into the modelling side of things myself, but it is well out of my reach unfortunately. hmmmm being a FEE gunner took a special kind of courage, at least in conventional 2 seaters, the poor gunner was at least supported a little, hanging on to that rear facing lewis, while the pilot was trying to jink around must have been........interesting. As if WWI aviation wasn't hard and dangerous enough !!
  24. Armed Observers for FE

Thats some new info I didnt have on these aircraft, thank you, I am fascinated by the First War and the emergence of air power, the leaps an bounds gained in the field of aviation was fabulous, even if the raison de etre was rather sad, I think the Golden age of aviation, which lasted until the 1960's is marvellous. I'm afraid I find the new wave of aircraft and their capabilities, somewhat bland and rather boring, yes they are technilogical marvels, and super efficient, but they just do not seem to have the magic of early aviation.
  25. Armed Observers for FE

hehehehehe well the in game ones do for the most part, except for the RFC pilot you did, or at least a pilot I use as RFC , he has what appears to be a Sidcot flying suit, and a scarf.....I cant imagine how the poor Gunners actually operated the gun, standing up in the slipstream and being freezing bloody cold, must have been awful, I have flown in open cockpit on a few occasions, and that was in the summer and at a relativley low altitude, and it was still rather chilly.
