Small help request for Pfalz D.III
Trotski replied to ataribaby's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Yeah I have had similar problems, dont want to diss anyone, or start a flame war, but I dont understand why Mr Capun has to be quite so precious.........if he wants to preserve his bandwith why not have a similar system to the one on this site, which limits the amount of downloads you are allowed in one day, unless you subscribe, a very fair and impartial system if you ask me. The over protectiveness of skunkworks is a little petty in my opinion........only saying, and I hope my opinion doesnt pee anyone off -
How cool is that !! The ultimate boys toy lol

What is everyones worst nightmare when it comes to messin' around with plane models ? My own personal hell is weapons loads.......how complicated can it possibly be ? I know I am not and " advanced modder " I just tinker as you all know ( I have asked for assistance several times ) but getting different bombs to work on aircraft that are supposed to be able to carry them is a real swine.............here is an example, I am not happy with the bomb loads on the Bristol Fighter, the bomb rack is incorrect, as there shout be 3 bomb racks all together, four bombs under each wing and a four bomb rack under the fuselage. According to Chaz Bowyers book on the F2B the airframe is rated to carry 12 cooper bombs, and 4 Rl112 bombs 2 under the fuselage or one under each wing. do ya think I can get the sod to work ?....not a chance in Hades !! It is a struggle to even get the standard load out as per the model to work !!! The USAS bombs I have found are awkward to get to show up, some of them dont at all !!! and yes I have changed the Nation settings for the bomb racks ......and the bombs !!! So that is my personal demon, what are yours ?

Woohooo.....I will dust off my Pith helmet, and get my long shorts on !!!!!! oh and look out for Camel Spiders in the cockpit lol lol lol

Nice one mate, soooo looking forward to the Eastern front campaign........A Middle East one would be good too hint hint !!!1

The gunner of the Vickers FB5 should be tweaked
Trotski replied to Hansa's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
I found fiddling about with burst amounts works well too, 5 round bursts seem to work well, less stoppages too !!! -
Errrrrrrrrr there was never a follow up on the "Where are my bombs" bit, about the rockets........how do we get those babies to work ?

Yes that is what I thought, but maybe a little poetic licence needs to be applied here ? Anyhow your previous suggestion to me worked well, and my FB gunner is now shooting as he should be, strange how only some of us seem to have the problem, but others dont, as I said the sim does have a mind of it's own sometimes !!! -

If you look at my earlier post , we had this discussion ref the FB5, I sorted the FB's gunner by changing the fire chance 100 . Before I did this my gunner was a blind moron, who was only good for blocking my view, after I upped the firechance to 100, oh yes and the ammo count to 97, that seemed to solve the problem.......there were actually 2 types of drum mag for the Lewis gun and a lot of the photos I have seen are mounted Lewis guns with the larger capacity pans (97 rounds) not sure if that was applicable earlier in the war, due to weight considerations etc but there is certainly photographic evidence to suggest it was the case. I have actually come across this problem with other types too........very odd, but then sometimes the sim does some odd things....a ghost in the machine ,maybe ?.......... -
good un mate !!! are you going to be doing the rest of the early Fokkers also, to go with the B1 ? ie the BII and the d series ? I know they already exist but you are a master of upgrading so just wondering
-
Good point ocjar, I hadnt actually realised that about the gunners......show I dont read everything that maybe I should eh !!!
-
yes, that is exactly what i mean about rear gunners being too accurate, if his aircraft is moving about ( and even in level flight it wouldnt be a really steady gun platform ) and taking evasive action, the poor old observer worked really hard to try and get a bead on what he was shooting at , even during WWII the massed guns of the B17's and B24's had little effect on incoming german fighters, yes of course they did get kills, but not that many !!! The drone was a 10 foot wingspan job, not moving terribly fast either, about 100 mph I would imagine, to simulate a helicopter more than a jet, so around the same sort of speeds a WWI aircraft would be moving at !! hard to hit trust me !!....with AAA artillery though it is a different matter, as the blast fro a near miss would really spoil a pilots day !! I am not trying to say that ground base MG's were ineffective, just that they were not a s accurate as prrtrayed in FE.....this buggers must have laser targeting, and imperial storm troopers shooting them hahahahahaha We were taught that the principle of AAA it is the aim of it to distract and discourage the enemy Aircraft from the target, any kills scored are a bonus, however the Germans had great success with 20 mm and 30 mm light flak, as they used it in large area deployments, but those things had a high rate of fire, explosive amunition and usually 4 barrels !!! To further illustrate my point ( and sorry I am going on a bit ) if you watch news reel of kamakaze attacks on US shipping, not the amount of AAA in the air at any one time it takes a hell of a lot of firepower even to knock down one determined enemy So to summarise, please dont anyone jump on me and say I am dissing the AAA I am just saying it is good actually.....just a little too good especially the mg's !! the actuall Archie is probably modelled quite correctly, however to get back to the original point ( 'cos I wandered off a bit, typical of me trangressin' ) the AAA artillery is a little too easy to kill, but like someone has already said, the crew of said Archibold gun would have been exposed and vunerable, so maybe ocjar was correct by saying use your imagination when it come to strafing guns Shutting up now, I can hear all the zzzzzzzzzzz's coming out of the site hahahaha
-
ohhh yeah...those airfield defence mg's are a little nasty to be sure, a little too accurate though in my opinion, I have done anti aircraft shoots with a machine gun ( a GPMG ) which fires a lot quicker than those old lewis and vickers did, and trust me it isnt easy to score hits , and certainly not as effective as those AI Mg's either last time I did an anti aircraft shoot we had 6 GPMG's on the firing line, with a radio controlled drone target, the standard rate of fire for AA shoots is 50 round bursts.......from 6 guns.........at 1000 - 1200 rpm.......and we were all highly trained and experienced gunners too.....errrrr we didnt hit the drone once in three passes !!! so maybe just maybe those AAA mg's at airfields need to be less accurate.....as do rear gunners in 2 seaters Far far too accurate in my opinion ( speaking as a machine gunner ) I know that rear gunners had a good kill ratio, however not that good !!! food for thought maybe guys ?
-
hmmmm yes that is an idea, probably soemting along the lines of what Grins is in the middle of..and I agree about the inconsistancies too !!
-
Hello fellow Pilots, has anyone else experienced the non firing gunner ? particularly in pushers, I flew a couple of sorties in a Gunbus today, and even though I was sat on the tail of a Fokker for what seemed like forever, my observer refused to fire, even at point blank range, I havent tries out the FE2 yet or some of the Farmans with front gunners, but certainly on the Gunbus , there would appear to be a particular lack of moral fibre from the prune blocking my view.....any suggesttions oh esteemed aviators ?
-
Cheers ocjar !! that did it !!!...easy when you know how eh !! thank you mate
-
I was sat right on the tail of the fokker, just undeneath his enpenage, was there following to sod about for ages too, so I would estimate within brick throwing distance !!! but I shall try your change to the AI data too and see what happens
-
Yes Ocjar that is very true, but even so it is too easy to kill em, I have taken out Archie batteries with one short burst before now, and in reality I dont believe the pilots of the day would have attempted it, as it stands at the moment the tepmtation to kill the annoying buggers is too great lol lol lol
-
hmmmmmmmm, actually I have tried it both ways, the default of the Gunbus doesnt have the _gunner tag, so I added it....still no joy.....will play around with it again tomorrow, also see if there are any other suggestions as well as your most excellent one for which I thank you
-
Yeah i totally agree, besides which taking on AAA with a twin vickers or Spandau would surley in real life be tantamount to suicide, taking out the crews however would stop those bounders shooting at the jolly old crate eh wot !! most ungenlemanly way of fighting a war old chap !!!.......but seriously, .303 ammo wouldnt do a lot of damage to an archie, and I would imagine the pilots would avoid them like the plague, so yes young master Grinseed please get the mod done to the guns mate :drinks:http://

This is typical SNAFU, if you look back at the history of our Armed Forces, all the way back to even as far as the Crimean War, if not before, consecutive penny pinching governments have shafted our fighting forces, they penny pinch, and make ill advised descisions. I think that HMG should all ( every man and woman jack of 'em ) be bundled into the back of a couple of Herc's, and flown out to Afganistan, and get stuck out on a 6 month deployment out there, then maybe....ands only maybe, will they get an idea, of what our guys and gals need on the frontline. hardly any of our M.P.'s have served in the Forces, and they havent got a damn clue, but then, they dont have a clue what it is like to be a " normal " peasant do they ? The Harrier, is a superlative airframe, so good in fact that we sold it to our friends and allies the Americans, who developed it even further ( using British Aerospace engineers ) From what I understand the US Marines love 'em, hell I love 'em, I worked with them enough, being ex RAF Regiment, and deploying with them on many occasions. Without the Harrier we would have been screwed royally in the Falklands ( hmmmm lets hope that little bushfire war never kicks off again eh ? ) But noooooooo....lets bin a perfectly good Aircraft, and buy errrrrrrr....I know....Typhoons !!! because we need interceptors dont we !! because the Tornado isnt any use is it ?.......just like the F15 isnt ????.....sorry being sarcastic !!! And finally..who had the wonderful bloody idea of sharing CV's with the French ? Yeah, that's gonna work really well isnt it ? Since when did the UK and France EVER see eye to eye on anything ? PER ARDUA
-
oops....it didnt come up for me when I came on here last night for some reason...see what you mean now lol
-
Sorry dude, but that is WWII kit, looks like home defence, or maybe airfield defence ordinance to me, not quite sure what the gun is, but it looks like some kind of Oerlikon deritive, maybe a 30mm looks too big for a 20mm Yep,it's a c.o.w gun, WWI vintage, but these things werent around until after the war
-
Wow !! what an amazing find, brilliant photos too....is there going to be a recovery attempt I wonder
