As an ex Serviceman, from a 3 generation military family, My Grandfather lied about his age, and joined the Gloucestershire Regiment in 1915, when he was only 15, wounded in action on the Somme in 1916, and carried the scars and horrors of the trenches for all his days, My Father joined the RAF in 1940 as a Flight Engineer. and flew in B24's in Costal command, and remained in the RAF until 1977 as first a trainee pilot on B29 Washingtons, until the RAF thought it was a great idea to insist all Pilots and Navigators had to have a commision, at which point my Father reverted back to Flight Engineer, as he had no desire to be an Officer. He retiired as one of the Senior Master Engineers in Transport Command., after leaving Bomber Command, and moving across to Trasport Command, He flew "sneaky Beaky " missions over Germany in a Chipmunk, apparently as a "Check Pilot" for trainees.......Hmmmm ok, then flew in Vallettas, Hastings, Brittannias, and finaly the Short Belfast. My Mother was in the WAAF during WWII gaining the lofty rank of LAC, and demobbed after VE day in 1945. I Joined up in 1976, went for training as a Telegraphist, I hated it, so went for a remuster board, however, there were no open trades at the time so they offered me a General Duties position, which I declined ( Very politely believe it or not ) So the discharged me on the proviso I returned to my local Recuitment Offoce within 12 months, and I would be accepted back in a new trade immediately. So, I joined the local TAVR unit ( Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve) and served in the Wessex Regiment as a signaller, until I went and re enlised in the RAf in 1978 as a proud member of the Rock Apes ( RAF Regiment) Serving in many different places, including Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Germany and Cyprus, with a little holiday in Iraq at the end of my service life. I wouldn't change a thing. Yes there were shitty times, yes there were losses, yes there were great times, and yes there are fabulous memories. So, I raise a glass, to ALL Warriors, in the air, on land, and at sea or under it. It matters not from what country you come from, or what flag you defend, at the end of it all, we are ALL BROTHERS and SISTERS in Arms I salute you all past, present, and future.................................PER ARDUA

Same here for the past 2 days, a site not secure popup, and then, today it just takes a long time to load in and to access anything. -
I agree, a worthy successor to Cold Waters, which is still great anyhow.

A good few hopefully excellent releases coming this month, Farming Sim 25 today, Naval Combat also today, then Planet Coaster 2, Microsoft Flight Sim 2025, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Heart of Chernobyl later this month as well, I can feel my wallet groaning already !!

My respected collegues in infamy, ommitted to mention Wings over Fladners field, and First Eagles 2 if you would like to try the wings and wrapping paper flying experiece, IL2 Forgotten Battles series is also very good.

Well what would be encouraging there, would be the fact that the former "CNC widow" has not disposed of said CNC apparatus, and therefore may even be a closet model maker/Flight sim affectionado....................In the words of a famous Vukcan, Fascinating.

I find myself in a situation, of having too many choices, and no conclusions. I want to splash out on a new HOTAS setup, and I have settled on 2 options out of 3, the 3 being, VKB, Winwing, and Virpil respectivley. I have pretty much binned the Virpils, as I believe that the Winwing/VKB choices are much better ( Of course I could in fact be misguided here ) So it is down to a choice between VKB, the ridiculously expensive option, and Winwing, the les ridiculously expensive option, I like the look of both these HOTAS setups, except for the VKB rudder, which I do not like at all, and it would also add a fair old price hike if I went with VKB, as I would still have to order the Winwing rudders, ofr the Virpil one. I would be interested in anyones input on this matter, if any one has experience on these 3 setups, I would enjoy your input. I am currently rocking the X52 pro Hotas, and Saitek rudders. I feel it maybe time to upgrade my sorry arse to something more.....Professional but I find myself in somewhat of a quandry HELP !!!

Oh and just a quick disclaimer, that previous comment was aimed squarely at my good and beloved mate Ron, before any of you oh so helpful bloody lot get yer knickers in a twist
-
GRRRRR !!!!!...................You bloody lot are about as helpful as a dose of the Clap !!! hahahahahahaha
-
Well, I am overwhelemed with the amount of "help" I have been given here.............( OOPS was that sarcasm ? ) I have decieded to ignore EVERYONES comments, and have gone with VKB Throttle, Stick, and Rudder.
-
I did play with that idea, however, it is a plastic gimbal based system, for the stick at least, and for what it is, ie first gen "advanced" Hotas, is still rather expensive, so that is a no I fear. I am aware that the stick can be modified etc, but I cnnot be messing around with fixing the issues with the gimbal on a stick. Thanks for the input though.

Fokker Dr.I, Camel and S.E.5a pitching up uncommanded

No, it is good that you ask questions, if you do not ask them, you remain unaware of things, never stop learning I say !!! Happy Flying mate. -
Fokker Dr.I, Camel and S.E.5a pitching up uncommanded
Trotski replied to Azzmonden's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
That is because a lot of WWI aircraft were inherrently Tail Heavy, and as there was no trim at the time, they were not EVER flown hands off, becaause of the need for forward pressure on the stick. The DR1 was definately one of these, so is modelled correctly. It is the same in WOFF as well by the way. -

OEFFAG Ba 53 & Ba 53 (feld Änderung) REDUX A rework of Jan Tumas excellent Oeffag Ba 53, I have kept this one simple as there were only about 50 or so Ba 53's built, a few of the early ones, about 10 or so were built using the Albatros D II planform, but this was swiftly changed to the D III instead. The Aircraft was actually better than the Albatros DIII, having a more powerful Austro Daimler power plant, also the Oeffag techies, figured out that the D III wing was a bit of a nightmare, and tended to drop off if you did any of that " Fighter Pilot Shit" So they strengthened the lower win by adding in another spar. Of course there is always a downside, although in this case a minor one, which was the armament, first off, it was a Swartzlose M7, the standard Infantry MG of the Autro Hungarian Army, it was orerated by a blowback system, which in itself was not the problem, the problem lay with the oiler, which had to oil each round as it was chambered, not an ideal set up, especially as the oil used to blow back into the pilots face, and bugger up his aiming somewhat. As well as this, the guns were buried deep in the cowling, so stoppages were virtually impossible to clear, Which I assume could spoil a pilots whole day at times There were also issues with the interrupter system, which was not very good in conjunction with the Swartzlose, so a special Tacho had to be fitted to Oeffags, to warn the pilot when the interrupter was not going to play nice, and let the gun shoot nice holes in the Airscrew.........Yes.....Well !! There are 2 files in this upload, the main Ba 53 file, with all the gubbins, decals and all that good stuff, the second file is for the (feld Änderung) aircraft, basically the same plane but they took the cowl off !! Atogether there are 8 skins, 3 which are my usual Factory Finish ones, so very generic, the other 4 are of named pilots, see the thumbnails for an ideaof what is in there for you. Everything is in a ready to go state as usual, the second file is just the Field modded Ba 53, on its own, so that will need to be dropped into you Save game file under "Objects - Aircraft" and you should be good to go. I have used my own decals and skins to rework these Oeffags, the 153 series will follow shortly !! A shout out to Jan Tuma for his original work, on this rather nice Albatros version, also to Von S for the updated FM's ( also an apology to the redoubtable Von S for not crediting him in my other Albatri uploads, my most profound apologies !!! ) and Geezer for the Pilot models. As always............................ENJOY -

How to get Canvas Knights in 2024?
Trotski replied to LZ43's topic in Canvas Knights WW1 Game - General Discussions
It looks to me like all the links are dead I'm afraid, I may be wrong though, however, there is always WOFF to consider, I can highly recommend it, although it is rather more involved than Canvas Knights seemed to be, there is also Rise of flight United, which is available on Steam, however I think WOFF is far superior, and also there is an IL2 derived WWI sim called Flying Circus, I have no idea on how good or bad that is, as I have never used it. That being said, there is absolutely nothing bad about FE2 either !!! Happy flying !!!
