  1. OT: 2012 Is The Year I Do It

Well done, Lou - keep it up. I gave up smoking many years ago, Jim, and found it surprisingly easy. I'd put it off for a long time having seen what other people went through. I guess I was just ready for it Lou, not sure I could give up my occasional pint of Spitfire though Jim, you're spot on with all the after effects of giving up smoking - what a difference it made.

Are you maintaining your weight still, Lou? Someone's got to keep an eye on you I thought I'd show my current chart. I lost a lot after surgery and then gained even more - that was a combination of convalescing in Italy and being unable to exercise much. As you can see I'm now back exercising almost as hard as I was earlier this year and the weight is coming off again. I still have a bit of pain holding me back but I'm getting back on track. Too late now for our wager, Lou
  3. Grapes and Glory...

ch together have a hard sound as in Mak-kee. c is soft when it is followed i or e and has a sound like in Chug.
  4. 2 days out of surgery and I'm just back home - a special dispensation as it's Father's day and as long as I have Nurse Gladys visit me in my bed for the next 3 days. Surgery went well but it was touch and go for a bit - about 2 hours out of recovery and I had a massive internal bleed which resulted in my blood pressure dropping through the floor. Luckily my lovely Irish Nurse Gladys was talking to me at the time and the emergency was promptly dealt with. Although now home I feel very weak and vulnerable and I think recovery time is going to be considerable. Thanks for all of your support guys.
  5. I'm back from my convalescence and feel great. Although some parts of me are missing my body is mending well and I even got on my bike again today albeit for a short ride up the road and nothing too strenuous. My walking in Italy was more or less confined to early morning before the sun reached its scorching 38-40 degrees. Hotter than I like but all that vitamin D felt good. Anyway, it's good to be back and it looks like there's some catching up to do on the forum. A couple of pics for Olham or he might try to shoot me down on my first sortie after my leave. Not surprisingly I've put some weight on whilst away.
  6. I've been given leave to fly so I'm going to Italy tomorrow to complete my convalesence. See you all at the end of August.
  7. Is this "new look" permanent?

It's like someone's redecorated your house while you've been out. And how do I get my Avater back?
  8. OT: 2012 Is The Year I Do It

Very hearty congratulations to you, Lou.
  9. OT: 2012 Is The Year I Do It

Very true but as far as I'm concerned you're preaching to the converted - I've studied and taught health and fitness for more than 18 years and my wife has practised Nutritional Medicine for 12 years. Unfortunately I stopped teaching as much a couple of years ago and my weight crept up because I didn't replace it with extra workouts. If I was found to have high cholesterol I would tackle it with diet (low-fat vegan) - I'd rather not have my Q10 compromised as I get older it's an extremely important Coenzyme. Having said that, the Statin/Cholesterol topic is controversial at best so maybe we should steer clear of it. Equally I understand how you must feel considering your background. Top marks for your job - 3 people I know have, at some time, benefitted from your coleague's efforts
  10. OT: 2012 Is The Year I Do It

Very well done, Lou. You have my full admiration for your achievement - now hold it there. Olham, Lou, I'm doing great thank you. 6 weeks out of surgery and I'm walking 4 miles a day, and my physio told me today that I can give cycling a go but, of course, taking it easy. I'm feeling stronger day after day. As you know,Lou, I've had an unofficial all-clear after the surgery but I meet with my surgeon again tomorrow and hope to get the official all-clear. That would mean no more treatment
  11. OT: Crazy weather in Newcastle!

I heard tell that they've got a sun in Italy. I'm going next month to see if it's true.
  12. Warning for TrackIR users

I'm with you 100% on that m8. I've been let down too often with new drivers. If mine does all I want then that's good enough, why update?
  13. OT: 2012 Is The Year I Do It

That's good going, Lou. Very well done. Even with having weight surgically removed I couldn't keep up with that, sir . I lost a helluva lot of weight for a bit, not surprisingly, but since surgery I've put some back on and, remarkably, stabilzed at the weight I was before all of that tiresome adventure started.
  14. Windows 7 OFFMan fatal error

    Hasta la vista, Vista
  15. Welcome back, Tony. Glad to see you made it through OK. I hope the recovery goes well for you. Don't overdo it and listen to your body.
  16. Thank you, BOC. As soon as I've worked out how to upload it to my gallery, I'll have nurse Gladys pin it on.
  17. OT: Welcome, little Melissa

    Congratulations
  18. OK, update. I'm getting around a bit easier now - I've had a couple of walks down the road to my friend's farm which is about 1/2 mile. It's about as much as I can handle and have to have my wife as physical support. I've got 5 wounds and the dressings on 4 are now off and they are healing nicely. The 5th one was troublesome at the hospital as it just wouldn't stop bleeding and they had to put more stitches in it. That one still has the dressing on and is quite painful still. Now I've been able to shower I can see the bruising and wish I couldn't - the whole of my right side is purple. I have a vist to the hospital again tomorrow to check me over and to remove the last dressing. I'm beginning to feel "me" again - it was nice to put clothes on for a start. My wife and family have been truly wonderful and I owe them big time when I'm recoverd. I also want to thank everyone here that has given support and good wishes. It's one of the reasons I rate this forum so highly - it's like an extended family.
  19. I'm using a laptop but I'm not confined to bed. Apparently it is usual for this type of op for the patient to be given and anti-coagulant of some some sort to self-administer via injections to prevent clots. The surgeon decided that, as I'm a little bleeder, it would be prudent not to give them to me but I must keep on my anti-embolism stockings a bit longer and keep relatively mobile. So I'm sitting at a table with my wife's laptop. I have an internet-based business that has its busy period right now so I'm trying to keep that going as well. I feel a little stronger today and have had 2 visits from Nurse Gladys and, to my complete surprise, a phone call from the surgeon. It seems I'm doing well but I must pace myself..... so now I'm off to bed for a bit.
  20. You're right, vB but in the last part of the above video it seems there is quite a bit of movement in the Le and, strangely, very little in the earlier parts of the vid. Maybe that's an viewing angle thing.
  21. Thanks for that, Olham. I built a RC model aircraft once with working wing warping and found that it was much more efficient if I used wires to prevent the leading edge moving up and down because this effectively changes the incidence of the wing.
  22. Gonna have to re-purchase HITR

Now that is a bummer. It doesn't help you now but My downloads are on 2 HDDs, 1 in the PC the other external. Was it working OK last time you used it? If it's USB try plugging it in on another socket if you've got one. There are various HDD diagnostic tools on the 'net and some are collected together on the Ultimate Boot CD. Of course, I've just remembered this was your line of work, Doh............I'll just be of now as I've got to teach my grandmother to suck eggs.
