Mission ends as my aircraft is damaged and before it hits the ground

Hello, Just seen this video by DVFAP on Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsFJrqhSO-4. It ends tragically :) the plane is hit by something, looses his wings and crashes, but I' m surprised to note that the player can see his own plane till he hits the ground. Indeed, in my own case, as my aircraft burns, hits an other aircraft or looses a wing, the combat stops immediately, after a short white screen. Are my graphics sliders too high ? Does a file miss somewhere ? Or is this an other ATI issue (I run OFF with Radeon 5770...) ? Thanks for your help. Groumf -

Olham, My CPU is an Intel Core I7 (3,6 GHz with turbo boost). So, I've set sliders as you suggested... and it works wonderfully for me too ! :good:I would have never guessed that scenery slider on 2 instead of 4 as I set it before could provide such an improvement. I can set AAA on 8 and AAF on 16 : the game is running very fine ! Thank you ! -

The settings suggested here for my system provided some improvements, but the game didn't run fluid enough, in my opinion... After trial and error (and much discouragement !), I think I've found quite good settings : in workshops, I choose "medium" for aircrafts details, then, I use catalyst control center settings suggested by BirdDogICT, except x8 and x16 for AA and AF instead of 4 and 8. I also use Olham's CFS3 config settings, except "triangle streaps", "white out" (what is the point of these too things ?) and props discs all turned of in "disable section". I run D3DOverrider too. Generally, whatever are the settings I verify (with my own system) that performances in game and FPS depend on the planeI fly : FPS in cockpit is the best with se5a WV, Sopwiths, Fokker DR.I, Spad 7-13 and it's the worst with Fokker Eindecker, Nieuport 28, Fokker Razor, Pfalz and, most of all, Albatros. Besides, when I fly Nieuport 17 or Nieuport 17 Lewis a part of upper wing in missing in "Iron sight" or "aldis sight"... Well, in short, I enjoy OFF with my system (without overcklocking), but when see Hellshade's amazings videos on Youtube (even with Albatros !), I'm on the verge on tears ! There's no secret : I guess this pilot has an excellent hardware to run OFF so fine with fraps + TrackIR... -

Uncleal, My video card is an ATI Radeon 5770 vaporX. Olham, Thanks for your screenshot.,it will be very useful for me. I'll try too run OFF with these setting as soon as possible. -

Thanks to Olham, Von Paulus and BirdDog for their replies. Turbo boost and the suggested settings seem to have increased performances in game. However, when I disable Write-Only Vertex Buffers, Write-Only Index Buffers,Terrain Texture Ring Blend ,Vertex Buffers, Index Buffers, as suggested for ATI in OFF website, terrain looks like a kind of grey and shapeless area. So, I don't tick these boxes and terrain texture is OK. -

Olham, Thank you for your replies. I found on the net some forums about overcklocking. some i7 860 owners increase speed to 3,8 and even 4,2 GHz ! But in my case, I think 3,2 GHz will be enough... Cheers. -

Olham, My processor is not overcloked (default speed : 2.80 GHz). Would the overclocking (up to 3 and even 3,6 GHz) noticeably increase the performances ? -

BirdDogICT, I have ATI HD 5770 GPU, too, (with Intel core I7, 4Go RAM). The settings you suggest (sliders and catalyst center) seems too high for my system, in spite of D3D overrider. Graphics look pretty good but the game is too slow and jerky. It appears that when I set antianisotropic filter on « managed by application », instead of 8X, 4X and even 2X, the game run fluider, but graphics are not as good. I cant' install ATI Tray tools (Windows 7 message : "cannot connect to low level driver.Please reinstall Ati tray tools under local system administrator account or try to start drive manually using low level driver installation shortcut" ). I'll seek later how to disregard this message. Does ATI tray tools provide signifiant changes and prevents the game from these annoying stutters and jerks ? I did not expect that I would have to overclock my GPU... What about other settings in graphics config > custom settings > "window" ? -
Here's some features that would be great in P4 (and the following phases!) : 1. More visible damages from the cockpit : bullet impacts in wings, canvas and windshield... 2. More "random bullet effect" : in OFF (like in mostly flight sims) you have to inflict heavy damages or to destroy a plane to shot him while in Red baron, sometimes you could kill a pilot with one bullet or make an ennemy plane burning with a few bullets. 3. New aircrafts, : Heavy bombers like Handley Page, DH4 or the terrific Gotha GV, the fearsom german Rumpler, pfalz DXII, Albatros C type, french bombers such as Breguet 14 or Salmson 2A.2, Sopwith Snipe (a great fighter in the late 1918, for competing with Fokker "razor"!)... I agree with hellshade who says that some more early aircrafts would be awesome : allied : Caudron, Farman F40, Morane Saulnier N, and even Voisin (first WW1 dogfight winner, on october 1914), German or austrian Aviatik and LVGCII... These old planes could be added in an "early years" expansion or something like that (of course, for players that doesn't mind flying these slow and not agile aircrafts !). 4. New flyiable vehicules : Zeppelin, airship and, why not... balloon ! (just for the pleasureof observing ennemy troops with binoculars or bail out as ennemy aircrafts approach ) 5. Machine guns : mouvements of Firing pins or Lewis drums while firing, munition meter (fokker DRI, DVII), reloading. 6. Ambulance when you crash on/near your airfield 7. Starting engine : Props turned by the mechanics 8. Pilot gesture : increase/decrase gas, mixture, firing, reloading... 9. Miscellaneous : possibility to open or close the kind of "window"over pilot's head on the upper wing for Albatros DIII and DV, improved gunsight for Nieuport 11, nieuport 24, Fokker E III and RE8 (observer's lewis machine gun), details like rain or snow on windshield. Here is a long list of (unrealistic ?) ideas ! Maybe some of them are applicable, but I guess that it would take more than one new phase ! Anyway, OFF is a fantastic sim yet and I really enjoy flying these wood and canvas airplanes !

Hi, Actually, when I say "bug", I don't mean a bug in the game but in my own installation. When I installed OFF, I didn't know what to check : "from CFS3 CD" or "from CF3 installation" and I wondered if it was or not the reason for the "bug", I wondered also if it could not be the video card or my CFS3 DVD. My intention was not that people had a bad opinion of OFF (OFF is a really great sim and I have respect for developpers work, besides, I've just deleted my two videos from youtube), it's known that sometimes pictures are more eloquents than sentences, that's why I thought it was the best way to explain my issue so that someone told me what's wrong in my installation ; now, I'm reassured there's nothing wrong. Long life to Over Flanders fields ! Cordially. -

Hi Uncleal, Thank you for your help. Actually, the problem is not that I can't follow a target, the problem is that the damage effect made by the crash is "missing", as if the game could'nt run the explosion. In OFF videos on youtube, when a player follows (with or without track IR) the target he has just shot down, he can see it hitting the ground in a yellow bursting. Besides the problem with my own plane when he's crashing or tearing up because of structural failure is not that the pilot is killed, the problem is that the game suddenly returns to menu before I see my own aircraft crashing on the ground. That's why I think it's a problem in damage model. English is not my mother tongue and it's quite difficult for me to write in english :) , so I think the best way to explain my problem would be a video of this strange bug, caught with fraps and sent in attached file on this forum, or posted on youtube. I'll settle down to this task as soon as possible. Cordially -
Hi Flyers ! I looked for my issue on this forum and I didn't find similar topics. Sorry beforehand if similar issue exists somewhere on combatace... So here is my problem : when an aircraft is shot down, i can't see it hitting the ground : my pilot's point of view is automatically redirected in front of him. Moreover, as my own plane is highly damaged because of structural failure, collision etc, the mission systematically ends up. It's the same when I crash, or when I have a bad landig and in these cases, the plane seems to "seek in the ground"). This bug is not due to OS, video card, or graphic configs : it occured with different computers, with XP, Win 7, Nvidia and ATI, whatever are the settings in workshops. However, withs CFS3, I can see aircrafts hitting the ground in a yellow bursting. Some files must be corrupted or missing, but where and why ? Is it possible that my CFS3 or OFF DVD is defective ?

Thankyou for your help, Von Paulus ! Well, the game may run fine. I've allready purchased OFF 3 but it's installed on a low config PC (sempron 2800+ and nvidia geforce4 ti !). I'm eager to receive my new computer to enjoy OFF the full... and maybe download Hat In The Ring extension !

Hello, Does anyone play OFFBHaH ph.3 with Intel Core i7 860 CPU ? Indeed, I read on a forum that this processor encountered some problems with certains "3D games". I know yet that OFF works fine with Intel Core I7 920, so it may work as fine with I7 860, but I'd be reassured for good if somebody could provide the confirmation... Thank you !
