Looks awesome, but forgive my lack of knowledge here; If you are in a single seat fighter, where are you likely to see your revi sight? Left or right monitor, or split between both?? Regards.... Dave S.

Where's Hot Space?
TROOPER117 replied to Vigilante's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mods & Skinning Chat
Thanks for that Pete! It'll be great if it gets up and running again. Not going to move away from this site though. Lots of people here who kindly give help and info (like yourself), without gobbing it off! Hopefully here and IL2skins will compliment each other. Still go on IL2+PF over at ubi, but I've got to be in thickskin mode because of the infantile attitude of alot of the visitors! Don't know how the mods cope, they must be sick of the same old crap that gets rehashed day after day! Regards....Dave S -
Mmmmm, Vigilante is probably right! A bit too close for this one! I was at the time, and still am a serving member of HM forces and lost guys from my regiment out there. Yep, gonna give this forum a miss, its not like discussing WWII 60 odd years ago. Regards....Dave S

TROOPER117 replied to Panzer's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Hey Panzer! Welcome aboard mate. -
The whole immersion thing for me is the taking off, forming up and heading out on a bearing with your flight, and the concentration required to keep your place in formation for a lengthy period. The actual combat part at the target area, and the objectives to be completed in order to complete the mission are the icing on the cake of course! But the WHOLE experience is what makes me fly these things over and over again! Many will disagree of course, and some only want a quick,' jump in, get a quick dogfight and a few kills' type game, and there is nothing wrong with that, but I think it will be a tall order for developers to please all camps 100%. Only my humble opinion of course gentlemen! Dave S

Guys, I'm with you! As a serviceman myself, my first reaction is disgust, followed by a instinctive, 'FIND EM, FIX EM!' I don't know what planet these morons live on but they don't deserve to live on ours! Having a site portraying pictures of injured and dead servicemen and then mocking them, should be in my humble opinion an offence. I'm going to stop now as I'll just rant and rave for several pages...... Regards...Dave S

Grumman Avenger
TROOPER117 replied to Pete's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
There was a thread recently on PF with lots of finger pointing and nashing of teeth, during which the legal thing reared its head again. I can't locate it to give you the exact quote, but one of the replys was from someone who had spoke to representatives at Grumman who denied there was a problem over copyright at all!!! Makes you wonder...... -
UNLUCKY OR WHAT??
TROOPER117 posted a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Has everyone heard of Oleg's bad luck? He got shot down over Moscow a couple of days ago. A couple of bandits got on his six, but he managed to bail out after a collision! Seriously though, he was involved in a bit of a prang in his car. Luckily his injuries aren't to bad, (according to first reports). Lets hope he gets well soon and has a speedy recovery! The last word was that the patch will now be delayed too, for obvious reasons. Good luck Oleg!! -
Thought I'd take this opportunity to illustrate the point, on just how close to the mark some of our best loved flight sims really are! I decided last year to take my PPL, and although I was a regular user of real aircraft, I tended to jump out of them and very rarely landed in one. The only experience of actualy controlling an aircraft was limited to simulations, ie Microsoft flight simulator and the IL2 series. I kept telling myself that even in game on full realism it just couldn't emulate real life surely? I was so astounded when it came to actualy flying a real airplane, all I kept thinking is "its just like the flying on the computer, I don't believe it!!" I had a grin from ear to ear, just couldn't stop smiling! Even now I've done some take offs for real, I still keep thinking, I was doing this routine yesterday on IL2...... increase power, remember the torque effect from the propeller, apply a little right rudder.....approaching take off speed....and up she comes!!! The final conformation for me was when having mastered "trimming" in game, I found it so natural and easy on a real aircraft, even in extremely choppy conditions! Granted I know, that on the computer you don't feel the physical effects of steep descents and banking left and right etc, but the effects of the control inputs that you use in game are mirrored quite closely to the real thing! I recommend to anyone that enjoys flight simulation, if you haven.t been up in an aircraft for real and done this, get booked in for an air experience flight at your local flying club. I guarantee that when you return to terra firma you will have that huge grin on your face, and as amazed as I was!! Regards.....Dave S

Patch 4.0
TROOPER117 replied to Pete's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Well, got to say as I've had the take off and landings sorted for a while now, I'm really interested to see if the new fm is going to make it radicaly different! Anyone managed to glean any info on just what the changes will be? Regards....Dave S -
Thanks Ghost! I live in the UK, but even with shipping costs I reckon it will be far cheaper to order a set from those guys. Can't believe how overpriced CH products are in this country!! I'm in the military and I was over in the States a while back taking part in a parachuting competition. Should have bought a set whilst I was over there!

New Campaign
TROOPER117 replied to BFawlty's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
In the middle of the campaign right now. Loving every minute of it. (Apart from one mission when my AI wingman decided to fly up my arse whilst I was landing). Had to refly it!! lol Oh, pilots with lower end pc's may have some problems as its pretty intensive on the graphics, with loads of aircraft in the sky on some missions!! -
IL2 add-ons, looking forward!
TROOPER117 posted a topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
We all know how the missing content with PF is causing so many heated debates over at Pacific Fighters, with many passionate threads and arguements, (don't worry, I'm not going to go there!), but what about looking forward? Its been said that after BoB the way was then open for more expansions; ie, taking the fight forward into France for instance, as well as opening up the Mediteranean theatre, the latter being a fantastic area to explore for all types of WWII air combat. You would be carrying out convoy patrols, (Op Pedestal). The defence of Malta. North Africa, The invasion of Sicily and Italy and the push north etc! Carrier ops will also be present, along with a wealth of different aircraft and ground targets, and dedicated maps!! Does anyone agree? Or what other areas would you like to see covered? -
IL2 add-ons, looking forward!
TROOPER117 replied to TROOPER117's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
Yes mate, Love the African theatre. There is so much scope with the Desert Airforce alone, who switched northwards after Rommel and the Italians were seen off, to take the fight over to Sicily then over the Straights of Messina into Italy. And to be honest, I love flying for any of the Axis or Allied airforces, there is so much to choose from, especialy if we get those new flyable aircraft!! -

TROOPER117 replied to BFawlty's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
With the demise of IL2 skins I have to say I'm so glad that this site has, or is trying to fill the void! Don't know about anyone else, but I now find myself checking this site out several times a day for new skins, any IL2 related info, and new threads on the forums. The fact that I used to do this at IL2 skins religiously is telling me that someone here has got something right. -
