Need to Change the Fair Use Agreement?
SupGen replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Just my two cents; personaly, I think a lot of the "offenders" may just not have read the agreement. Perhaps when new members join they should have to read it before being accepted? -
SF2 can use radar to lock on multiple targets simultaneously?
SupGen replied to QQ123's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
saisran, I don't think tou need the F-14's radar folder and TGA's. Look at this: [TargetSearch] SymbolType=TARGET_SYMBOL ShowPriorityTarget=TRUE TextureName=cockpit\F-15A_FullTarget.tga IFFTarget=cockpit\F-15A_IFFTarget.tga Hit1Target=cockpit\F-15A_FullTarget.tga Hit2Target=cockpit\F-15A_FullTarget.tga ;ImageSize=0.0625 ImageSize=0.08 [TargetTWS] SymbolType=TARGET_SYMBOL ShowPriorityTarget=TRUE ShowTargetDesignation=TRUE FlashOnShootCue=TRUE FlashRate=0.2 TextureName=cockpit\F-15A_FullTarget.tga IFFTarget=cockpit\F-15A_IFFTarget.tga Hit1Target=cockpit\F-15A_FullTarget.tga Hit2Target=cockpit\F-15A_FullTarget.tga ;ImageSize=0.0625 ImageSize=0.08 RotateToHeading=TRUE Add ShowPriorityTarget=TRUE to TargetSearch and add that and ShowTargetDesignation=TRUE, FlashOnShootCue=TRUE, and FlashRate=0.2 to TargetTWS. Make sure Radar ranges in TWS match those in Search and Bob's your uncle. (That just means you're in business.) And yeah, this "messin around stuff" does get addictive. -
SF2 Series DACT Reports And Related A2A Discussions (Game only)
SupGen replied to EricJ's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
saisran, have you checked out any of the stuff here: http://www.simhq.com...cc_library.html ? Especially these: http://www.simhq.com...r/air_020a.html , http://www.simhq.com...r/air_021a.html , http://www.simhq.com...r/air_022a.html , http://www.simhq.com...r/air_023a.html . Great stuff, and believe me will give you a whole new "perspective " on air combat. In the F-4, especially the un-slatted wing versions, when that Fishbed starts turning hard and drifting out of your field of view, don't try to turn with him! Instead, roll away from him, wings level, and pull up into the vertical. (You can pretty much firewall the throttle at this point). Get outside the cockpit in the player-to-target view (shift+F8). This is NOT cheating, no matter how you work that hat switch, TrackIR or no, nothing on a 2D monitor is equivilent to a pilot simply turning his head; when you get an idea of the relationship between your aircraft and that evil b*****rd roll until your vertical fin (your lift vector) is pointed at him. Now comes the good part; pull on the stick and go over the top; you should be inverted; back off on the throttle, depending on your relative speed and jump back in the cockpit when you're pointing at him. Roll wings level and line him up. This is known as a high yo-yo and turns the F-4 from a mediocre dogfighter into a MiG killer. Read those articles, they turned me from a hapless arrow follower into, well, not a hapless arrow follower. Now I actually get to kill sumpthin'. Edit: Yeah, almost forget, that rudder thing is a characteristic of the F-4, especially the un-slatted ones: at high angles of attack the F-4 won't roll very well, you actually use the rudder to roll it. -
Individual speech packs for different nations
SupGen replied to thereg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
HomeFries, thanks for the quick response; however from where I sit it seems all the links are broken except for the patch(correctif). It is actually Charlie's Aces, isn't it? I've just been all over CheckSix, and as I said, 5 out of 6 links to that mod are broken (webpage cannot be found). If you found a working link, any chance you could hook me up? -
Individual speech packs for different nations

Can anyone point me to the mod mentioned here? Just spent a couple hours combing the SF1 D'loads section and...nuthin'. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -
Vietnam Era MiG-21 top sea level speed?
SupGen replied to GalmOne's topic in Military and General Aviation
Lexx, do not STFU. I, for one look forward to your "unique" perspective. -
ironroad, I hate to recommend my set up because of the issues you've mentioned; however I've been using a G940 for about two years now, yes there is a (to me) small problem with the reversal bug, but it is still going strong. From what I understand the aforementioned bug is more of a problem if you do a lot of close formation flying, which I do not. Good luck, I hope this helps.

TOMCAT SuperPack V1.18
SupGen replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Unfortunately Spiff, we do not now and may never have full TCS functionality. What we have is basicaly a foward camera veiw. I've posted at ThirdWire about the possibilty of slaving the TCS to an existing veiw option; e.g. Ctrl+R to select your current radar target as your visual target, then F8 to display an enlarged view of your current visual target, in the TCS view, but got no answer. Not very much different from what a Maverick seeker shows but, obviously more than TK wants us to have at present. -

TOMCAT SuperPack V1.18
SupGen replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Spiff, unzip the attached file and drop the enclosed Objects folder into the main Mod folder where your 'Cats reside. This fixes the VDI and HUD landing displays for the A and B models and the VDI for the D. I'm not sure if the Ds should have a HUD landing display, gotta wait on Caesar for that; the NATOPS Manual master. -

SupGen replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Spiff, I just checked on that and you are absolutly correct. It's not a difficult fix, there should be something up in a day or two. Thanks for the heads-up. -
Mission type and loadout problems
SupGen replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Val, where in the Loadout ini. do you have the Walleyes? They should be under Strike. I put a WalleyeI each on Stations 3 and 4, run IcelandNA, Iceland map, get a mission to attack one of the Soviet CBG's, one WalleyeII MK13 Mod 2 under each wing. -

SupGen replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Hey Crusader, you sound like the French plantation owner in Apocalypse Now Redux, "In Algeria, we lose! At Dien Bien Phu, we lose! Here, we win! Here, we stay!" But, I agree wholeheartedly. -
Mission type and loadout problems
SupGen replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Well, Anti-Ship was never available on the vietnam map as there are no targets (for the blue side, at least). Iceland is a special case, you might want to look around in the stickies in the mission building thread, but I think at any time after Minsk and Kiev came into service, strike missions are actually Naval_Strike, in other words, they target the Soviet Carrier Task Groups. -
Why is everybody bugging out from SF series?
SupGen replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I agree, and I think stuff is being locked away so "they" can't touch it. I wasn't around at the beginning, but I've done a lot of reading, old forums, the SF1 KB, etc., and from that I understand the original releases were totally Effed up and that all of the tools we take for granted now (extractors, mission editors) had to be created by the community and that it took a while. I realize the situation is not exactly the same but, from certain things TK's said, I wonder if it's not possible for this community to find ways to acess at least some of the "locked" features. In other words, I wonder if his aim is to make modding more difficult, but perhaps not impossible. -
Stop complaining, it's gettin' hard to remember turning 40.

Why is everybody bugging out from SF series?
SupGen replied to FLOGGER23's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Don't panic, FLOGGER, personally I just think everybody needs to " get out of the car and stretch" a little bit. I got A-10C and DCS World just to see what everyone was talking about, and, I don't know, it's still got that " LOMAC" feel; kinda sterile. For me, anyway. Obviously a very limited planeset and very difficult to change something if you think ( or know) it's wrong. For sheer variety, you still can't touch SF2. Edit: Boy, you guys type fast. -
Mission type and loadout problems
SupGen replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
What terrain are you using? If it's not stock, make sure it's got a water map. On July 2012 my stock F-4J has both Strike and Anti-Ship available. -
DLC files, all locked?
SupGen replied to ace888's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
ace, you probably know this but, save the old extractor; the new one doesn't even see, much less extract, certain files from older versions of the game; I was looking for RWR lists in a Jun2010 install, the new extractor couldn't "see" the files. When I switched to an older extractor, voila! there they were. -
DLC files, all locked?
SupGen replied to ace888's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Click the browse button, When the second window opens look in the lower right hand corner and you should see "Third Wire files (cat), click the dropdown tab and select (cat, dlc), or (all files). Hope this helps. -
TOMCAT SuperPack V1.18
SupGen replied to Spiff's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Hey Spiff, what year are you flying them in? Reason I ask is the (external) chaff and flare dispensers (F14DDL, LBDD, RBDD) have an end date of 2006 so if you've modified the aircraft Data ini. to fly later than that you also have to modify the Data ini.s for those. Why are you still flying the 1.18s? If you have NA you need (I mean you really need) to get version 1.19, optimized for NA avionics (F14A AvionicsDLL). These have a working VDI, TWS(shoot six), everything the stock Tomcat's got only better. -
DCS MiG-21bis has met its funding goal!
SupGen replied to streakeagle's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Well Dave, as they say in NYC, not for nuthin', but...I think this is a major problem with ED and always has been. I got LOMAC (cheap!) a couple years ago and the pro-Russian bias was obvious. Not just air to air, either. Set up a naval encounter and let the AI fight it out...watch as every western anti-ship missile gets shot down, while if the western side is lucky they may get one of the Russian missiles...every western ship is sunk and none of the Russian ones. I just bought A-10C just to see what all the excitement was about, it seems pretty cool, (havn't actually played yet, still trying to set up a decent HOTAS profile) but if that same anti-western bias is there it might be a deal breaker for me. Just my two cents. -
Is it possible to create a Black & White EOTV Image in SF2?
SupGen replied to HomeFries's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Amadu,(I think) asked the question, and (I think) FC or Fubar answered; no can do. OK, it was EricJ: http://combatace.com/topic/74118-tv-filter-color/ -
SF2 Realism Mod
SupGen replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
If I can stick my two cents in: Maybe the "weapons pack" could be limited to (strong) suggestions (with the download links included)? Personally, I think McGunny's Ordnance Pack2, although dated, if updated properly is a must. With these: lindr2's Soviet Bombs Pack, Silverbolt's Hi-Def Russian AAMs Pack, dtmdragon's Modern RAF Smart Bombs Pack, Dave and GrinchWSLG's Hi-Res Modern US CBU Pack, White Boy Samurai's Cruise Missle Update Pack, and (I saved the best for last, Ravenclaw's AGM-65 Pack and Weapons Pack 1 and when it comes out, Weapons Pack 2. The Phoenixes from the latest Tomcat Superpack, as Homefries said, are improvements on the stock ones (TW's AIM-54A falls about in the middle of the Pack's AIM-54A, AIM-54C, and AIM-54CE and is a bit of a "magic bullet" for 1979). The SSC's were adjusted to work with the stock F-14's and Spectre8750 updated the skins so if you like your Phoenixes Big, Bad, AND Beautiful (and I do), they're the only way to go. The biggest problem with weapons in general is when you d'load an aircraft and unthinkingly click the Objects folder and end up overwriting your Hi-Def latest and greatest with stuff from two years ago (not that I've ever done that, of course), so maybe a word to the unwise on that, too. Alright, twenty five cents.
