  1. working on missile smoke trails...
  2. whoa seems a action movie shot! the stealth boarding of a 747
  3. well regarding WOx and SF2x series, i saw my SF2 process using 914Mb RAM on Win7 64 when running a merged SF2+SF2V+SF2E with 315 planes and 2000+ weapon folders. in a modded NF4+ campaign (heavy germanyCE with high details, unlimited cockpit, environment mod, unlimited effects) and DX10 mode. anyway the synchronous you're talking about is DUAL CHANNEL or SINGLE CHANNEL. to run DUAL CHANNEL your system needs to see 2 similar (better identicals or paired) banks of ram (similars because they need to run at same timings and need to be the same size and density) on the DUAL CHANNEL slots. (usually paired in colors) if the pair is not similar (different size, different density, different JEDEC timing and speed) they have to be put in SINGLE CHANNEL slots. my system now 4 years old have 2x1Gb TEAMGROUP DDR2 667 clocked at 800 4-4-4-12 and system see 2048Mb ram. now with some browsers open and background apps i have 34% memory used. (122Mb paged, 348Mb cached, 1494Mb available). when i run SF2 doing a NF4+ campaign, i still have near 500Mb RAM free. no bottlenecks at all, 60FPS all the time. if you want to run ALL on unlimited settings with 60 fixed FPS you need a HD5870 or a old GTX480. the only reason you could go 8Gb or more RAM now is to have a system good for at least 4 years. then you need to get a 5870 or wait the nextgen cards for summer end. 4 cores are useless in ThirdWire engine and useless in almost all games... the core i3 is even enough to go GPU limited in. even my E6600@3.6Ghz is still enough to stay GPU limited. and the second core is never occupied at 100% in games. 4Gb ram and a good dualcore CPU with a 4870 is still enough for 1680x1050 with filters. EDIT: i entirely quote you all the line about marketing rules about consumer segment. Hardware potential is impressive but software and operating systems are made (badly) to squeeze resources... to let the hardware manufacturers continue to sell more and more.
  4. formosa strait is my favorite one.. high FPS, lot of mountains to hide behind, stunning sea, never boring single missions. thanks for the update!
  5. Lockheed/Mitsubishi F-104J SF-2 Upgrade

5 stars... is REALLY worth it.
  6. WOOT! i knew i shoulda reboot the router well i suppose war records are about export mig-29s since cold war ended just when mig-29s and su-27s entered service... so russian version (with russian weapons) never fought against western planes... i suppose you're talking about iraq records or export countries... Citation: "For example,in Serbia, during 1999,5 Mig-29s got shot down, they were unable to acquire any target due to non functioning radars and jamming and were greatly outnumbered by an enemy that had support of AWACS aircraft. Therefore this cannot be considered as "combat record"... " Citation: "The only known combat of the MiG-29 involved Ethiopian Su-27s and Eritrean MiG-29s all allegedly flown by mercenary pilots. The Combat started BVR and ended up with R-73s, The MiG-29s were shot down...I think you can find more details on acig Another rumour is that Indian MiG-29s painted Pakistani F-16s during Kargil war but were out of range of the R-27s" There aren't kill records about USSR/Russian MiG-29s or Su-27s. and im not saying that 29s and su-27s was/are superior to USA/Nato fighters... i'm only sayin that are the projects that reduced the tech gap... since there aren't non-export version records, i think we'll never know. but at same pilot skill, in a 1vs1 dogfight, i can suppose that a pilot F-15/F-16 should at least do his best. ... And im really impartial and objective because im not neither american neither russian... i'm just italian... and italy is not really famous for aviators and pilots EDIT: and i'm talking about that specific era ('80s '90s) because actual F-31s F-35s are LOT superior. (in datasheets (?) terms).
  7. AWESOME F-104J by spillone104 And awesome plane in dogfight too... EDIT: no more upload space :-|
  8. "It seems due to harware like a video card with 1GB you will need at least 1GB more capability in your motherboard than the ram you want installed ??" VRAM (videocard ram) doesn't count in the max RAM amount of a motherboard. neither VRAM will merge or share with the system RAM. "To get full use of ram on a 64 bit machine the motherboard has to be able to handle all ram plus hardware addresses like video cards and stuff." well the hardware addresses occupy a very very few KBs in RAM. if i could build a new system for games, if DDR3 i'll go with 3 DIMMS 2GB each for 6Gigs. If DDR2 i'll go 4 DIMMS 2GB each for 8Gigs. my ATI HD4870 with 512mb suffer in newer games even in 1680x1050 with filters up... i say from now on we should use minimum 1Gb video cards and 2Gb video cards for a good system lifetime... and DX11 compliant is a must. Please explain here what sort of problem you got with WOx games... and post system specs + operating system plz.
  9. about the mig kill ratio what i think is: - USA really great gap versus Soviet is the all-time radar superiority. Starting in sixties, phantoms got very long range radars while early MiG-21s didn't neither have a crappy radar. - USA second really great gap versus soviet was the armament: the firsts AIM-9B rear aspect was quite inaccurate but somewhat effective compared to rear aspect Atoll-A or Aphid-A. When USA developed AIM-9L (all aspect IR missile) then the gap in short range missiles was really too much. the AIM-7 sparrow was another really great advantage. in later sixties. phantoms firing range was near 15-20 miles while soviet firing range was again in visual contact. - USA unmatched ECM and ECCM capability. - USA really great AWACS support. - USA planes like phantoms could load unmatched number of air-to-air missiles. MiG-21s could only load from 2 to 4 missiles, mig-23 in the seventies from 4 to 6. the gap became too much when F-15 start filling the ranks. whas the first plane with unmatched speed (only mig-25 at high altitude could overrun a f-15) computerized radar, etc... from my point of view, the mig-29 and the Su-27 was the only fighters that could have some chance against USA fighters in the second half of the eighties. the chart performance of these planes was good, R-73 archer missiles wasn't so bad, R-27 alamos wasnt so bad too. Su-27 got really nice air-air missile tonnage and hardpoints. that's is what i can say... on the chart mig-29s and su-27 was the projects that shortens the gap but still behind USA planes... a lot behind.
  10. for my little knowledge, when flying an aircraft with a computerized radar capable of TWS mode (Track While Scan) with the Friend or Foe system like F-15 and from MiG-29, Su-27 you can see after some seconds, the radar recognize if the target is friend or foe. Example, on mig-29/Su-27 radar, friendlies are circles while bandits are triangles. beware to wait few seconds every new spot or pass to let the IFF system work. Aircombat mode (as far as i know in thirdwire games) will lock on every target it gets... friend or foe. If you use difficulty setting RADAR easy or normal you cant lock friendly... in hardmode you can lock and fire on friendly.
  11. uhm... framerate should be really high
  12. Mig-25 Recon

    thanks!
  13. Gen 2 conversion of those MF MiG-29 are in the NF4+ for SF2.
  14. dunno... they keep saying "im bingo fuel!"
  15. hmm i know it's a lot hard to implement it now... isn't easier to make AI use fuel too? and with variables like when the AI goes bingo then consider going home and/or stop abusing burner? a nice thing that should be not to difficult to do is to land in a friendly airport for rearming/refueling... or only refueling. EDIT: AI wingmans (friendly) they go out of fuel saying "I'm bingo fuel" so why the enemy don't?
  16. Nice thanks!!! ma sei italiano?
  17. ok it's a graphic contest!! gah somewhat fixed the smoke.tga
  18. ah ok i'll ask him... anyway i mean that overbright of the image when it's sunrise/dusk time, when the sunset is coming and all the image will raise gamma levels (like sunlight blindness)
  19. hard is more realistic but what also caesar said, AI doesn't go bingo... i usually climb from 5000 to 8000 meters (15k-25k feets) and go with cruise throttle at 37% for fuel economy... but its impossible with hard settings to penetrate for 150 miles in a enemy zone full of SAMs at 150 feets while mantaining waypoint's briefed speed and have also fuel to run away if detected after completing the objective (mig-21s and 23s even with tanks can't fly for 30-40minutes with hard fuel setting) is anyway easier with a F4E, F15 or F16 with 2 droptanks to come back home with fuel. since the AI can fly forever at 450 knots sea level (and everytime outnumbering) i find it not so funny in hard mode.
  20. the only MiG-29 i found are the Fulcrum-A, the Fulcrum-A (West Germany) and the Fulcrum-C... all those from MirageFactory and i manually imported em in SF2 by adding userlist.ini, shaders, new shadow string, StrafeAI data and IRAngle data.
  21. ... or you can do a merged SF2, SF2V, SF2E and to create different mod folders you can rename the EXE file with the name you want (example natofighters4.exe) once you run it, it will create a new folder in C:\users\..\saved games\thirdwire\natofighters4 (example) and there you can put your mod. so you can use a core merged install and different separate mod folders. more info in the knowledgebase. Anyway i read a lot of that in the knowledgebase... to find the best mods just use search in Download section for Campaigns or go look in Downloads -> Campaigns
  22. ok lets break with two pesky Su-30KN. CAP over formosa. head-on a group of F-15D. and the last F-15D alive just want to kick my ass... bud my good ol' buddy saved my butt.
  23. piecemeal how you get rid of that twilight bloom/hdr? seems i can't get rid of it... worked a lot on environmentsystem.ini without luck.
  24. seven 64 can handle almost any 32bit app... but you're probably right.. if you lose only 500Mb and you need a lot of backward compatibility then you'll be fine. to be sure not to have problems with older apps i leaved my old XP 32bit in a partition with a bootloader just in case.
