There's a bit of rust that shouldn't be too hard to take care and just a bit of electrical work and I think it should be on the road in no time. I'll have to get new tires, it still has the original tires on there and I'm not too keen to drive on 34 year old tires. Someone painted over the original paint in black, but the original is a really striking blue. Eventually I'd like to get it repainted that color.

After Action Reports
tank03 replied to eraser_tr's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
I used to work with a guy who always filled out the beginning of his Incident Reports with "So there I was...". Following a code 5 (assaultive client) on one of our units his report started " So there I was, though I wish I wasn't.." -
Where do you like to start?
tank03 replied to tw7222's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It depends on how much time I have, but I usually like to start and end (if I make it)on the runway. I'll fly a couple of WP's then Alt-N. As others have pointed out, the Alt-N sometimes drops you in the middle of the sh*t and I spend a frantic few minutes trying to figure out what the hell is going on around me. -
I'm willing to bet Paris thinks activist is some time of european actor.

I didn't know that about the ceiling fan. We are using the energy efficient lights too. I've also installed a clothesline outside so we don't have to run the clothes drier when it's a nice day. I don't work in town so I still do a fair bit of driving, but I've started using a bike when I have to run errands around the neighborhood. That turned out to be better than I thought. It's easier to park and I'm getting in better shape. I've started using refillable water bottles rather than using the disposable plastic ones. I have one of those filter pitchers that we keep in the fridge and the water taste just as good as any bottled water. I don't garden myself, but my neighbor does so we contribute any household waste that can be composted to his compost pile. It's a nice exchange because he always shares his veggies with us. It came with the house, but I do have a solar panel on the roof that heats water for the hot water system. The water pump broke on it last year and it was out of commission for about two months. I was shocked at how much higher my bill was with out the solar working. I'd really like a hybrid car; both because it's "green" and because it would save me a ton of money in gas, but they are still just a bit too expensive right now for me to be able to afford. I have a postage stamp sized yard so I have been considering getting one of those push reel mowers, rather than the gas one I have now.

"They think because they ARE rich it gives them a right to have a say." -They have a right to say because they are citizens, it has nothing to do with how much money they have. They exist on this planet just as you do, and they have every right to try and help fix what they percieve as problems and to speak about those problems. Being rich just gives them greater opportunity to speak up. "The rest will say they are "green" then go back to their celeb lifestyles" - There are a number of celebrities that were present at the concert who actually practise what they preach. Just because you don't think they are serious doesn't make it so. A number of them have a long and well established track records of supporting environmental causes monetarily as well as in practice. As to the celeb lifestyle, I'd love to be rich and not have to work everyday and spend my time floating around the pool with beautiful women and drinking Guinness until it came out my ears. "We do not need a mega concert to make us aware of the problems, the freakin' media does that already." -Sad as it is, there are some people who have never, and will never, read a newspaper/watch the news/seek out accurate info. My wife's co-worker is a perfect example; she reads People magazine, watches Entertainment Tonight and has no idea what goes on in the rest of the world, but can tell you everything that happened in Hollywoood last week. It may be that with this concert, these people were introduced to the problem of global warming for the first time and presented with info that they may never have come across any other way. The fact that her favorite actor said global warming is a problem may have been enough to have her get involved. Besides, I for one, love a good concert "They act and sing for a living....those are "professions" that do not have any impact on our society in a sense where society will be lost without them. We need teachers, we need a military, we need fireman and police, we don't need celebrities." - I completely agree about teachers, military, etc. but I also greatly value the entertainment. Each part of a society contributes to the whole. Individually, we may not value or partake of the fruits of their profession, but I imagine all of the cameramen, writers, prop guys, studio accountants, guitar makers, the receptionist at the movie projector factory, etc. all place value on what these actors and singers do; their livelihood depends on it. I for one, love going to the movies and concerts and have a very extensive music collection. I love going to see my favorite NFL team. Yes, I think they are all overpayed, but I rather they be overpayed than not have those diversions at all. Besides, it's the public that creates celebrities. If you want to chastise anyone go after the people that support the industry and pay the money that allows these poeple to live the "celeb" lifestyle. Incidentally, we often speak of police and fire fighters when we talk of community heros. I'd also like to include the trash collector. We give him very little thought, but where would we be without him? Probably chin high in trash, garbage, and disease. I've never had the fire department to my house (thankfully) but I do get my trash collected twice a week and I'd hat e to think what life wouold be like if I didn't. I'm not trying to incite an argument and I respect everyone's opinions, but the vehemence of some of the comments would lead one to believe that these celebrities got together and started to mass slaughter babies or something. Whether their interest is genuine or not, they are just trying to do something good. I've seen Bono brought up a couple of times. Yes, he's rich. Yes, he's a celebrity. Yes, he live a pretty good life and owns homes across the globe. Yes, he may make you cringe. But, he has also made a real and quantifiable difference. He's contributed millions personally, and he's encouraged others to do the same. He's lobbied on behalf of millions of people and his efforts have made real changes in the quality of life of these people. That's a fact, not an opinion. You may not like him but it's undeniable that he's given back more than he's taken. He's certainly done more to make the world a better place than I have. I just think it's unfair to chastise these people for attempting to do good.

I agree with everything SayWhat?! had to say above. I do take issue with some of the celebrity bashing I've read in this topic though. Granted, some celebrities are shallow and only in it for the PR, but others are quite genuine in their interest to the cause. I don't hold it against them the fact that they are famous. Because they have acheived success in their chosen industry isn't necessarily a reason to condemn them. Besides, the public is responsible for generating a great deal of the so-called "hype" and celebrity status that surrounds these people, so don't blame them, blame the public. I was read a very interesting article about the environment and it did mention that many celebrities actively supported a variety of causes. One particular famous actor said (I'm paraphrasing here), "I'm rich. I have all kinds of free time and I don't have to worry about making money. Because of that I'm in a perfect position to get involved and help out. We can't expect the average joe, who has to work everyday, to have either the time or resources to get out there and actively participate. Since I'm in the position that I am, I feel it's my responsibility to get out there and do my part." The guy had a point; he could have sat home counting his money and getting trashed (which is what I would probably do), but instead, he donates time and money and gets involved. Just because we may not like the world of celebrity in general, I don't think it's fair to make blanket statements about all of them. Some of them truly care and are doing what they can to make a difference. The fact that they may be rich and famous shouldn't diminsh their contributions.
-
Some celebs are famous, not because they seek it out, but because the public fawns over them and makes them famous. Those that have a real talent don't bother me too much, it's nice to have a little diversion now and then. What really gets me is celebs who are famous for nothing; Paris Hilton is a case in point. She's has no real talent and she's only famous for being a rich, airheaded bimbo. Why people find her interesting is completely beyond me.

Tank is the dog's name; kind of an Indiana Jones-thing going on. He's named after Tatanka (Buffalo/Bison) from the Dances With Wolves movie. My wife and I happened to be at a bison preserve in Alaska when we decided to get him, so that's where his name came from. 03 is the year he was born. I can't remember why I ever decided to use his name as my online ID. I think because I'm a bit dimwitted at times so I needed something I wouldn't easily forget.

[helpme] How to make those things works on an aircraft carrier ?
tank03 replied to PPPBEEBEE's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The carriers don't have animated elevators (not sure about the new stuff just put out by YAP) and typically the swing wing animation is tied to the a/c speed. -
Daft questions
tank03 replied to Planejunky's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Currently, the game engine doesn't support engine start/stop; during the game they are always on, even at zero throttle. Most a/c's have their canopy animation tied to the landing gear animation and speed. i.e. the gear needs to be down and the canpoy will open when it gets below a certain speed (sucha as when landing). Not all the a/c's have the canopy animated. -
Kill Markings, Anyone?
tank03 replied to SidDogg's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I've just recently got in to the WW2 stuff and I'm completely hooked. I've spent the last couple of weeks filling my hard-drive with Nazi, Jap, and Allied stuff. I think I'm addicted; I've been having dreams of getting shot down over the Channel. -

Float planes viable in SFP1?
tank03 posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm working on a ww2 mission using the BoB terrain and I was looking for a Sunderland (or similar) float plane and realised there aren't any (at least as far as I could find). I was then wondering if SFP1/WOV even has the capability for water landings? -
I do a lot of mountian biking here in NH. There are trails just about everywhere and I don't have to worry about the road traffic. In the summer we head up to the ski slopes and bike down like a bat out of hell. People think that coming down is the easy part, what with gravity and all, but it actually takes a good deal of effort not to kill yourself. I think the scariest thing I've ever done is ride my mnt. bike (with it's mud tires) down a seriously steep 7 mile long paved road. I hit 54mph and nearly crapped myself when I went through a small patch of sand at the bottom of the hill. The bike wobbled a bit but I didn't lose it. Only tried it once.

I've been in a WW2 mood lately and just watched "Battle of Britain". It's a really good film. I'm going to have to check out some of those Amazon releases Wrench has mentioned.

I've seen a lot of posts regarding some seriously good comedies and it got me thinking about what the funniest thing I've ever seen in a movie was. Though it's hard to pick just one, the laundry/bedsheet scene from "Trainspotting" had me nearly pissing my pants. The fact I was a bit drunk at the time probably help a bit. "Christmas Vacation" also ranks up there for me in terms of really funny stuff. Anyone else?

I just saw "The Big Lebowski" again recently and I'd forgotten how freakishly funny that was. It was wierd, but there were some really hysterical bits.

Burning Sands 1944 Upgrade
tank03 replied to Baltika's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I've just started getting into WW2 stuff (right now I'm on a huge Battle of Britain kick) so you can be sure I'll check out your campaign. I've know about it for awhile now, but, until recently, I didn't have any interest in props-YAP was taking up a good deal of my available flying time. I've been spending alot of free time lately organizing my SFP1/WOV stuff on the computer. I've got mods, planes, terrains, etc scattered all over the place; it's really a mess. Once I get that issue sorted out I will be downloading Burning Sands.
